This place uses a similar technique that disneyland does. They pump the smell of their baking area out onto the street. So guess what happens as your passing by? hah! Well its seductive aroma will not lead you astray!'

We came here and bought some financiers, a french little cake-like pastry, which offers a spicy and sweet taste in bite size pieces.

The next day we came by and ate two french pastries whose names fail me now. One was all about chocolate, had a sponge-like cake, chocolate mousse, and pralines. The second pastry had autumn/wintery flavors such as pumpkin, spice, lemon, and vanilla mousse.

The pastries are as delicious as they are beautiful, but very rich.

Next on our adventure was Ganache Pastries in Yaletown. Traveling from one end of downtown to the other burned 200 calories, enough to prepare us for the sugar coma we were about to enter.

This store specializes in wedding cakes, however, they had a small box of macarons that screamed our name. My date and I were more in the market to try individual ones split between us, however, they only sold them in boxes. Don't be fooled by the .75" little bits as they packed flavour. Each macaron worked out to be $1

The strawberry macaron was subtle and resembled a strawberry sorbet.

Lemon was packed with flavour that hits you after all is said and done.

Praline was over powering as the lingering peanut taste ruined the fair evaluation of the other macarons.

Caramel was too sweet and resembled more of a sugar cookie than displaying the familiar caramel notes.

Chocolate = chocolate. I am somewhat jaded when it comes to chocolate.

I walk by here every morning on my way to work and I purposely slow my pace and take in a deep breath as I pass by to enjoy a whiff of sugary sweetness. Since this bakery is so conveniently located just two blocks from my office, it's a place my colleagues and I occasionally find ourselves for an afternoon snack attack or to bring in special treats for our coworkers.

Prices are really quite reasonable, especially considering the quality and location. Just to give you an idea, I believe tea is $2 and specialty coffees are $3-5, and many of the individual sized cakes are under $6.

We often purchase packages of macarons which are so pretty and not too sweet, just a perfect bite of happiness. We've also shared a few of the mini-cakes. These are perfect for one person to indulge, or can still be sliced up into a few smaller portions if needed. Among some of the flavors we've tried and loved: tiramisu-chocolat; matcha-exotique; citrouille-chocolat; and abricot-pistache. All delicious. I also came here with a group to split a buche de noel, and we had the chocolat almand croquant. This one was nice but I don't think it was quite as special as the individual sizes I've bad. However, I wouldn't have picked the chocolatiest option myself.

The cakes are so beautiful. Each one a work of art.

On their website, I found this wonderful review written by Angela Murrills in 2004 for the Georgia Straight. I thought I'd share this one excerpt with you:

"Chef-owner Peter Fong's career path (thank you,God) diverged from genetic engineering to crafting classic gâteau Opéra and crème brûlée after a backpacking trip to Europe; his background is in topnotch Vancouver and Whistler hotels. This being the New World, what Fong also does is riff on the classics, adding chai spices to a mousse that he pairs with chocolate macaron and vanilla crème brûlée, or combining white-chocolate/cranberry parfait with dark-chocolate mousse and praline crunch. You might want to lie back, close your eyes, and have someone read the last part of that sentence to you in a suitably chocolate-and-cream voice."

Yeah. What she said. Amazing. Genetic engineering is cool, but this patisserie is awesome.

My friend's favorite pattisserie and has become mine too.. She says it has a lot of cake varieties other than chocolates. True enough. I had the green tea exotique cake over the weekend, and it was delicious, fluffy and not too sweet. From now on it would my second fav cake after warm chocolate dessert! I also had hot chocolate which is quick thick to my liking (yay), although they can reduce the sugar, it was too sweet. The staff was extremely friendly and attentive. Beautiful decor with at least 10 display wedding cakes, bridal magazines, comfy sofa.. Definitely will attract girls to take a peek inside.

Everything looks fancy and exquisite at Patisserie Ganache. There are bags of financiers, meringues, pate de fruits, and honeycomb, boxes of mini macarons, tiny single serve cakes, decadent full size chocolate cakes, croissants, etc. They have hand-crafted chocolates and make custom wedding cakes.

*Coffee macaron - very mild in flavor, the shell was too brittle, not as cakey/chewy as other macarons
    * Lemon macaron - mild lemon flavor, crisp shell
    * Honeycomb - crispy, airy & delicate, turns chewy, I've never seen it plain and maybe there's a reason for that, honeycomb tastes much better dipped in chocolate

I planned to be there as soon as it opened, but damn walking made me late.

So they open at 11am. I had planned to meet my girlfriends there, but since I parked a lot far away (because I am not a Yaletown person, I don't know where the garages are) I was late. It's rainy like a mofo outside and this place is cold inside. Wear layers. I wouldn't want it to be warm inside anyhow. I want my cake to be firm and filling, not oozy and melty.

We are seated amidst all the wedding cakes. One of my girlfriends is getting married next year. No, they are not in the running to being her cake baker. While their cakes look magical, I think her budget is focused elsewhere. We spend a long time staring at the case of cakes. Hmm, what to get? Do I want something fruity? Chocolate-y. In hindsight, I should have gotten the box of mini macaroons. Instead I get this chocolate, meringue thing. We all do and I get an americano to wash it down.

I get a little tray of cake and coffee. I get a little thingy of cream. Hmm, but I need sugar. Sure I am going to ingest copious amounts of sugar, but I still need sugar for my coffee... Oh, I have to stand. I am lazy, but we all do what we must. The americano is good. I love when there is a little foamy haze on top. You don't get that at Starbucks most of the time.

The cake is so good! I love the crunchy meringue. The chocolate mousse is airy... almost like those truffles you buy at Costco. Yummy... I make this thing last. Two hours later and many laughs shared. This place is perfect for a non-egg breakfast.

I HAVE TO COME BACK FOR THE MACAROONS. Mainly because they are way less than the other place I go to.

    Oh. My. Yummy. God.

If you haven' been to Ganache yet to try their chocolat-banane cake...don't go. I'm completely serious.

Sometimes they run out and I'll have to order something else, putting me in a foul mood for the rest of the day/evening, which my poor bf inevitably pays for. See what suffering your gluttony causes?

So really, it's best if you just order something else if you must go. If not for me, do it for the unfortunate, innocent bloke who has to put up with me when you eat all my chocolat-banane cake.

This place is supposed to be a high end chocolate and dessert place? Aside from the fancy fixin's on their cakes and in the room decoration (plates with their logo), I don't think they are 'that great'.

I went in there today and tried their tiramisu and a chocolate cake of some sort. Both, to me were ho hum. The tiramisu is their weird version if it, its nothing like a real tiramisu. The chocolate cake thing was too sweet, and the chocolate was too thin....not rich enough.

For what they charge, you'd expect better tasting or larger or very high quality.

I keep buying treats from here for the women in my life. Sometimes they let me try a morsel. Usually they're too busy scarfing and raving about them to share with me :(

Well today I insisted on taking Michelle here for a proper sit down dessert fix. I'll admit it -I'm delicate when it comes to rich foods. We ordered the Opera Noissette (chocolate almond layered cake.) It was creamy, served at the right temperature, smooth & rich but not too filling.

I prefer to take the pastries home but if do choose to sit you will be surrounded by beautifully decorated cakes and, for some reason, large chocolate caricatures of Asterix and Obelix. And yes, they are made of chocolate. I asked -and offered to help eat them when the time comes.

Both their desserts and their chocolates are superb. Cheap too for the quality. Around eight bucks for the pastries.

Caramel-Chocolat($5.95) was Off-the-Hook!  When most Culinary trends head towards simplicity, fresh, recognizable flavours, Ganache Patisserie throws that out the window with this Caramel-Chocolat.

Here's the list of ingredients that seem overwhelming for 1 simple Dessert but the miracle here is that all ingredients were quite recognizable and works well together in harmony rather than overwhelming the palate.

Milk Chocolate Caramel Mousse with Hazelnut Croquant, Raspberry Gelée, 75% Tanzanie Dark Chocolate Mousse, Praline Crunch, Chocolate Biscuit.

The Caramel coating wasn't hard either as it was easily liquid with a stroke of my Fork.  The Mousse is silky smooth while the second item you realize within is a textural contrast of Praline Crunch then lastly the flavour contrast of the Gelee is hidden away in the middle giving another layer of depth after a few bites of Chocolate Mousse.

    Intense!

Abraham Maslow was right when he theorized that self-actualization only happens when basic needs have been met.  I don't know what kind of person I would be today if it weren't for Ganache and our trusty Skytrain helping me meet these needs of mine last night.

We walked in around 5:20PM and I was worried that they would have a.) nothing good left or b.) stale things left as they close at 6PM.  No and no to both.  There were plenty of choices in their beautifully organized shelf and a 6-cake sampler was bought to go.  We got the Blanc Fraisier, Matcha-Exotique, Concorde Praline, Chocolat-Caramel, Chocolat-Banane and the Concorde Framboise.  Standard cake packaging but I liked that they kept it simple with the plain brown box and the Ganache logo fabric ribbon to highlight the beauty inside.

Anyone would think that at $6.95/piece, the individual cakes are a bit pricey, but when they hit your tastebuds, you will be wanting to pay more (please don't raise prices, I'm going to need more servings to realize my full potential in this life).  Sadly, I've paid more for way less (please refer to my True Confections review).  With the degree of complexity and "pop" of flavours infused in each cake variety, one bite of a GP cake will tell you immediately this is what a labour of love and pure talent looks and tastes like.

I`m not a big fan of sweets but my girlfriend is.
    We went here last week.

The pastry is quite small and there are only 3~4 tables.
When I saw the cakes,..., oh god.. there were so many kinds of cake.
    They were beautiful....

So my girlfriend had "Matcha-Exotique" and I had "Blanc Fraisier"(I chose this one because it was very pretty and it didn`t look that sweet).
    with tea and americano.

I just loved it... The vanilla flavor of"Blanc Fraisier" led me to the Sweet World.

Exceptional cakes.  Delighted with the presentation, service and the praline chocolate cake. It delighted the group I was with, so mission accomplished :)

If you need to impress, and want the best - go here.

And the best thing was... when I collected the cake, the hair studio next door allowed me to get a wash and blow-dry at 6pm on a Friday night.  Double-win!

For my sister-in-law's baby shower in Vancouver, I posted on yelp requesting help with choosing a bakery for the shower cake. Apparently there are many great bakeries in Vancouver because I received a variety of suggestions. However, the only repeat suggestion was for Ganache so that's how I made the decision.

I read online about the wonderful caramel chocolat cake and when I called to place the order (4 days before the shower, mind you) the woman who answered the phone said that was her favorite.  I went  with that.  It was honestly the best cake I've ever had in my entire life.  It even surpassed my own wedding cake.  Later I found out that it is the Daddy-to-Be's favorite bakery.  My sister-in-law ALWAYS orders his birthday cakes here.

The icing on the cake though was when I called again the morning of the shower and asked if they could pull together some bags of cookies for me as party favors and they did.  This bakery was so accommodating and so delicious.  I think if I lived in Vancouver I'd be positively fat from eating here often.

This is by far the best patisserie in Vancouver.  By far.  Miles.  Kilometres.  Whatever your poison.

If you want to try one of their best signature desserts, try the caramel-chocolat.  It is a 75% Tanzanie dark chocolate mousse centre with a small dab of highly concentrated raspberry gelée, surrounded by a milk chocolate caramel mousse with hazelnut croquant on top of praline crunch and chocolate biscuit.  All of this is then covered with a perfectly done caramel, a small square of dark chocolate and hazelnut dust.  An amazing amazing dessert.

Friends also rave about the gianduja poire chocolat which is
gianduja mousse, cardamom panna cotta, lemon curd, star anise poached pears, and hazelnut cake.

But since I don't go very often (yes, I'm a good boy sometimes) I always will treat myself with the caramel-chocolat!

I love this patisserie because they were the ones that I made responsible to create my mother's 3-tiered birthday cake a few years back for her big 61st.
Wow, was I impressed, not only did they agreed to deliver it to the venue, they didn't mind doing it a before they closed for new years.

The yellow fondant covered the best lemon caked with mango and passionfruit icing. Yum...Very very yummy and may I say how beautiful it looked too.

I still have yet to try their desserts at the store, but I have a feeling I might stop by sometime in the next few days :)

I rated them for 5-star coz they have the best dessert in town, the cakes are small and a bit expensive but really worth to try. I love most of cakes there, just a little sweet for Asian.

The chocolate cake was so smooth and strong. It melted in your month.

Chocolat-Banane is my favour - dark chocolate mousse, caramelized bananas, praline crunch, hazelnut dacquoise

Blanc Fraisier so good - vanilla cake, vanilla sablé Breton, white chocolate black pepper mousseline, strawberries, passionfruit meringue

I stumbled in this patisserie last year looking for a birthday cake for my father. Lo and behold, no cake here. Only mousses. So I get the Guava Exotica Mousse and I thought, it's kind of pretty, it might be lighter on the calories and fat content, why not? I charged my Visa 30 something dollars and off I went.

After a nice dinner, I whipped out this "cake" and tried to cut it which was a bad idea. In a more familiar term, I guess I could call this the 'drunken cake', by the way it jiggled and fell apart. I handed everyone a piece and held my breath until they all took a bite. Instead of raised eyebrows saying, 'this isn't bad' or 'this is pretty good'.. i had an overwhelming response of poo-poo faces. Everyone started scrunching their faces like someone let out a big, wet, juicy, stanky one.

Anyway, today I went out again in search of another birthday dessert. I researched on Yelp and this place seemed to have good reviews so I went back. It was then that I realized to my disappointment, this was THE PLACE with the fart mousse. I walked in and walked out in one single swift motion like a revolving door.

I adore this bakery. I wish I could transport it complete with the wonderful folks that work there to San Francisco so I could get my birthday cakes and special treats there.

It's the kind of place where you may not know what's in the cakes but you will never be disappointed. Both their little individual cakes and thier larger cakes are made with the same care and creativity. While the cakes may seem small, they are so rich and complex that a small piece really satisfying.

One my last trip to Vancouver, we decided to pick up a last minute cake for a friend's birthday. They asked if I wanted a message on it, I was expecting maybe some pretty writing, instead they added a chocolate medallion, elaborate chocolate curls and sugar work. It was a wonderful cake to begin with and that just made it all the more special.

It's been a month since I was in Vancouver, but I am still daydreaming (daily) of the piece of heaven that is the almond croissant at Ganache Patisserie. I don't think I have ever had a better pastry than that. Ever.

This store is adorable and every pastry/cake on display looked delicious. In addition to the croissant, my friends and I tried the Abricot et Earl Grey and this other chocolate ganache thing. Both were very delicate, but did not knock me off my feet the way the croissant did. I expected the apricot dessert to have stronger tea flavor and fresh apricot, but it didn't really have either. The ganache was good but a bit rich (to be expected)--definitely nice to share with friends over coffee.

In conclusion, if I lived in Vancouver, the almond croissant would bring me back every Saturday morning for sure. Love.

I'm not sure if they're still my number one high end cake place (Thomas Haas may have that now.. but we'll have to see when I try both again)

Don't get an entire cake from here. Their cakes are much too rich to have too much of. It's great if you have another person to share one slice with.

The chocolate..... it melts in your mouth! I went to Yaletown just for this place to try things out, and it didn't disappoint. Unfortunately they were out on macarons when I went, but I still had a hard time deciding what cakes to get, since they had so many to choose from. The cake was just so good.... BUT. You have to eat it in little bites, or the overly sweet taste might get to you.

I was lured in by the giant chocolate Obelix (from Asterix and Obelix), and tempted by all of the beautiful cakes and pastries.  I was completely smitten by the box of mini macarons, which were as tasty as they were beautiful.  If I were bringing a dessert to a dinner party, Ganache would definitley be on my list of places to consider.  Beautiful.

ROUND 1: Okay, so this was the place of Sarah O.'s fart mousse, so I intentionally skipped all mousses of any kind here. No thanks, maybe next time, but not my first visit. I was pleased to see they had caneles and macarons, and got both, packaged nicely in a box, ribbons and all. I personally prefer them just laying all out overflowing in the counter baked fresh from the oven a la Boulangerie in Filmore/Pine SF, or even La Baguette Lechalote in Granville Island. And sure, I'm aware this ain't Laduree, but the macarons were nothing to be crazy about. Outside had a light crumbly crisp to it, but none of the smooth chewy bite in the centre, though I must note flavours were nice and delicious. I suspect it would have been really outstanding if I ate it fresh. Same goes for the caneles, a nice hint of burnt caramel on the outside and buttery custard goodness on the inside. I actually enjoyed but again, did not wow me enough to merit a return trip the next day or so. These two items certainly had great potential, but may miss on the freshness department. I may be wrong but on a weekend afternoon when the store was empty and almost closing, and still a fair amount of the items I picked up were still left on the counter already neatly packaged in boxes, I wonder if all those would still be there the next day? M-E-H. 2 stars for this round.

ROUND 2: In my best attempt to give a fair review, I tried not to be a wuss and tried the mousse on my next visit. Lots to choose from! The opera cake had a dense hazelnut mousse texture, crunchy almond biscuit, topped with dark chocolate ganache. Yes, it looked rich and heavy, but the taste was neither overly sweet nor strong, it leaves you clamoring for more. Nicely done. And albeit not the best, I still got the caneles as this is the only place I found in town so far that offers it. Almost croissant was also notably butter-licious, still does not beat Thomas Haas, but certainly comes close to it. Finally, bonus snaps for the staff for offering a sample of their amaretto cheesecake while I was in the middle of wiping my plate off. Y-A-Y, 4 stars for this round.

VERDICT: 3 stars averaging out both visits, and considerably A-OK given all accounts. Will come back for the caramel chocolat for ROUND 3!

One of Vancouver's best pastry shop.  The chef/owner Peter really puts alot of thought into each pastry item.  Each pastry has alot of component to it and each component compliments each other.  In the end you have all these exciting flavours in your mouth.  Everytime I get a birthday cake from there, my family gets really excited.  The mousses are light and not too sweet and the sponge cake layer is moist and flavourful.  Love their creme brulees.  After eating it you can use the cute ceramic dish too.  The cookies have a nice buttery taste to it.

Seriously the most delicious, beautifully-made edible works of art in Vancouver. I love pastries and have been bakery hopping looking for the best bakery in town -- I found it at Ganache. Everything looks delicious and tastes even better. The portions are not huge, but when you're eating something this rich it's actually just right. A little on the pricey side, but worth every penny. I even like it better than Thomas Haas, which is saying something.

We ordered our wedding cake and truffles for wedding favors here and couldn't be happier with how things turned out. Peter was very easy to talk to from our first consultation meeting (which is complimentary by the way and you get free tasting as well!) and very responsive in emails after that. We ended up picking 3 flavors for our wedding cake and Peter made truffle flavors to match each cake. We got quite a few compliments on the cake and the truffles. We will definitely return whenever we need a dessert fix!

Oooh la la!  A Patisserie a la français.  Truly, Ganache is the place to go if you are looking for delicate french style pastries.  They do especially well with all things chocolate and they have, amongst their selection, single serving patisseries and some cakes as well.  The macaroons are pretty and as light as a macaroon ought to be, and they will, of course, package anything you purchase beautifully.  They do not tend to have a very large selection, but that is the point.  This store emphasises quality over quantity, and they do well to keep it that way.
