take heed, haters:
something amazing happens to you in the Galleria.
you dominate the arcade games. and your date (of course you're on a date) can't help but notice your skill with that joystick. you show off your knowledge of beepers and pagers at the deserted kiosk. you intend to make out in the photo booth, but forget because you're dazzled by the halting selection of belt buckles. the framing store artwork makes you feel like fucking picasso. you take a romantic drive across the parking lot for some mc d's drive-thru. that beer from the LCBO will be dessert. you're both swooning by now.
the Galleria Mall will make your confidence soar. how could it not? you're the best looking thing in there.
it is absolutely impossible to have a bad time here because you'd be an idiot to have any expectations.
#1 date place in TO. you're welcome. -

I see all these reviews talking smack about G-Mall. I do not approve!
No, it isn't exactly Yorkdale, and my girlfriend did compare it to a run down plaza in Romania, just as communism was toppled. It certainly has a photography and framing shop that I've never seen anyone in (to work or otherwise), but contains prints from Zellers as well as a delicious piece titled, "to us". I recommend you check it out, but be prepared for increased sexual awareness.
And hell, the woman working at price chopper once yelled at me for entering through the mall entrance.
These things make it beautiful, though. My friends and I enjoy walking through the mall, knowing that every weekend, we'll see the $1500 framed autographed Springsteen LP amongst sports memorabilia. We know the P.M. Toronto crowd will always be there, and as a result, you are never far from a Beck taxi outside.
So no, Galleria isn't the greatest mall, or even a decent one. However, what it lacks in ambiance, modern shops or grime-removal, it validates itself by simply existing as a metropolitan anomaly. Go experience it before it gets turned into condos or gets cleaned up. -

It depends on how you feel about ghetto malls. I love them.
You know what you can buy at the Galleria? 3D Virgin Mary clocks!
There is an almost permanent sports memorabilia booth set up on the weekends.
There is also an off-track betting parlour attached to the mall.
There are all sorts of useful stores, such as the LCBO, Zellers and Price Chopper.
You can buy goldfish too.
My only warning to you is to avoid the beauty salon with the bargain eyebrow waxing. They tore off a piece of my eyelid.Listed in: Ghetto Malls

OK, this is going to disgrace me I am sure. After posting this none of you will think I have a half wit about me. Perhaps your assessment of me will be accurate BUT I dare to challenge you to look beyond the surface for a deeper appreciation of the GM. Yes the Galleria Mall is unappealing to the eye. Yes there are some odd trinket stores and kiosks here and I have no beef with the description of some of the shady characters hanging around this quiet unpretentious mall.
I grew up in Kingston and the more I think about it the more this mall reminds me of the Frontenac Mall in my hometown 30 years ago. It had a Zellers in the same end of it's mall; it's decor was similar to the Galleria and you felt the same odd / sad feeling as I notice here.
When we first moved into the hood 4 years ago our Realtor said the Galleria was supposed to be knocked down. I remember thinking it couldn't happen soon enough. Just looking at that place made me want to take a shower. Well, time and my situation has allowed me to go beyond what I may see as unfortunate design and lack of care to being able to hold this mall in great appreciation.
Here is my case FOR the Galleria...
It has a Zellers, YAY Zellers! I love saving on kid clothes and finding all sorts of things I forgot I needed like soap and underwear and sewing supplies.
I can go to Price Chopper, YAY Price Chopper! I used to think PC was so skid. With a tight budget now-a-days I forced myself to shop there (sometimes). You want to know what the difference is? Less brands to choose from. Big deal, I can save $20 - $40 per shop, I can get down with that!
A pharmacy - like the time my son was 2 years old, I was very pregers and had to walk to a pharmacy that would likely have the electrolyte for kids so he could gain strength after puking all nite - GM's Pharmaplus had it! We didn't have a car then so I had to walk in the blowing cold snow. It was a life saver.
Did I mention the post office? Did you know as big and popular as the Duff is there is no post office!?
And where else can I go in my neighborhood for a TD Bank? No where else I tell you.
When the Dufferin Mall's S&H Health Food store was often out of the crucial herbs I needed to produce milk for my daughter's first year of life, GM's supplement store ALWAYS had it. Need I go on? Oh yeah and the liquor store and pet store are there too.
My only concern with the GM is feeling a little out of place and more likely to get unwanted attention by the crowd that generally hangs around this place. Nothing bad just stares at my red boots and glances cast from guys hanging around in the evening when I am walking alone with my Zellers scores to the car in the parking lot.
In conclusion if you fancy yourself a deeper person than someone who needs surface pleasures to complete their existence I say give this place another chance. I think of it as a hidden gem and sometimes even a lifesaver. -

Here's the deal with Galleria Mall.
Would I go, for fun?
No.
Do I go ALL THE TIME?
You betcha.
Listen, Galleria Mall is the shit. When you party all weekend and forget to do your market grocery shop, Price Chopper is right there. When it's late and beer is running low and it's almost 9, the LCBO is right there.
Sure, you won't find an aged brie in the cheese section.
Any boots you see will be synthetic.
And I probably wouldn't eat from the 'food court' (one stall in the middle of the mall).
But I love Galleria Mall. So here's to convenience. And location. And florescent lighting. -

Nothing a good "electrical fire" won't cure.
The 2 stars are for the Pet Valu and the LCBO (both of which, it should be noted, don't actually require you to enter the mall. This is a good thing.) The LCBO looks horrible at first glance, but actually has a good selection of Italian and Portuguese wines and Port. Just don't come in looking for French or Californian wine. The Pet Value isn't my favourite pet supply store (there are a few independents in the Junction that I like better), but they're well-stocked and friendly.
The inside of the mall itself is dark and dingy. There are a couple of marginally useful dollar/electronics/miscellaneous stuff stores. The place where you can get both a stainless-steel off-brand toaster oven AND a plaster statue of Jesus covered in blood is a special favourite. I wouldn't buy clothes in this mall; they all look flammable.
The PharmaPlus is a decent drugstore for its size. The Price Chopper is dismal; dirty, wilted produce, and stocking is apparently done by poorly trained members of one of the lower orders of primates. They are constantly out of staples, especially if they go on sale.Good luck finding what they do have. The Zellers is just awful. Stock is hard to find, the prices are often MUCH higher than Canadian Tire or WalMart, and they will make things extremely difficult if you try to get them to honour their price match policy.
The parking lot is huge, virtually empty, and if you are walking through it at night, kind of terrifying.
Basically, it's a handy place to pick up wine or cat litter if you live in the neighbourhood. For almost anything else, you're likely better off walking south to Dufferin Mall or West to the Junction.
It will be interesting to see what happens once Target takes over Zellers. That could make the mall a place worth going. -

Well that was depressing.
Excuse me while I go listen to some S Club 7 and watch some Richard Simmons DVDs to undo the hour of melancholy and retail decay I just witnessed.
What a dismal and dreary place. The reason for my visit was to pick up some accordion file folders and a shoe rack at Zellers, and while my mission was a success, I can't shake the images of war-torn Bulgaria that walking through this mall embedded in my brain.
The entire place was filed with shitty dollar stores and empty boutiques, bad elevator muzak and hair salons that haven't seen a customer since the 80s. It was like the deserted mall in the original Dawn Of The Dead (1978), to give you an idea of the decor and popularity. The few people that I DID see looked like they'd just been been declined at the Money Mart for the fourth time this week or laid off after a 40 year tenure sorting magazines at the post office.
To be avoided unless absolutely necessary.Listed in: Shopping Malls

Dismal. Ugly interior primarily inhabited by worn looking old people and shady looking characters. The Zellers is quite small. Parking set-up is inconvenient. The center area of the mall has a large empty space which looks like a good setting for a Romero zombie movie - I can picture them all hanging out in there munching.
The non-anchors are tawdry cheap looking junk stores.
I only went here because I needed to go to the PetValu since my local one did not have what I was looking for. Since I now know it has a separate outside entrance, I don't need to darken the doors of this creepy place again.Listed in: Places to Avoid

Galleria Mall's a bit on the grubby side. Unlike Dufferin Mall farther south, it hasn't had a makeover and looks pretty dated (early 1970s would be my best guess). The halls feel a bit claustrophobic, even with few people around, thanks to the low vaulted ceilings.
Don't expect anything high-end at this mid-sized mall; the main stores are Zellers and Price Chopper (not that I'm not a fan of them). There are some bargain/kitschy knick-knack stores here too, so if you're in the market for, say, a big plastic crucified Jesus, you can get it here. -

Oh Galleria, for a time you were my secret lover as it were, the place I could escape to in the lonely, semi-industrial Dupont/Dufferin area. What other mall in the city boasts a Zellers, Toronto's oldest sports bar (P.M. Toronto), an LCBO and an off-track betting establishment? No one, that's who!
The main reason I used to venture out to the Galleria with my housemates was to hit up the Price Chopper for a regrettable afternoon of grocery shopping. Occasionally the pharmacy there would do in a pinch to grab some cough syrup or bandaids, and of course the LCBO so close by was a plus as well. The cast of characters who inhabit this mall seem like they could be Canadian versions of the cast of Little Britain - colorful and nearly impossibly real.
At one point my housemates and I thought it would be clever to stop into the "mall bar", PM Toronto, and lo and behold we discovered cheap, cheap drinks and a half decent menu! Plus? Hot nut machine. Not bad for a trip to the mall.
Overall though I'd avoid this place if ever possible - there are too many scammy seeming booths, wig sellers, collectible card vendors, soccer jersey shops and other weird merchants which come as quickly as they disappear. This place is due a makeover as of maybe 5 years ago, although I guess they are sort of the downmarket noncompetitor to Dufferin mall, so maybe their patrons like it just the way it is...but probably not. -

This place seems lost in that rare space a few levels below rock bottom.
Makes Dufferin mall look like the Mall of America by comparision.
LCBO is reasonable enough and the price chopper is reasonable enough as well. Everything else is god awful at best. Words cannot express how overdue this place is for an upgrade. -

Galleria Mall gets 2 stars because it's a quintessential example of those ugly 1970s malls that litter all of Toronto. If you are in desperate need of a dollar store, a no-name electronics shop where you can get no-name knock off electronics, phone cards, cheap polyester clothing, and things in this vein, the Galleria is the place to be. It's also worth a trip to watch degenerates try and by liqueur at the LCBO. (This has happened everytime I've been -- though I may have bad luck.)
