Founded in Quebec city in the 1980s, Lacerte Gallery just opened the doors on it's Montreal location this summer and everything they've shown so far has been incredibly strong, touching, unexpected and lovely. The emphasis at Lacerte is on supporting a balance between emerging and established Quebec contemporary artists and showcasing internationally celebrated artists in the Quebec market. Illustration, paint, sculpture, installation all find homes here.

The gallery itself, located up on St Laurent just a few blocks north of the Van Horne underpass, is just another white box with high ceilings. But its neighbor is the new outpost of contemporary urban art at Yves Laroche, and a few other independent galleries are poking their heads up along this strip raising my hopes for a gallery row up here in Petite Italie.
