Apparently last year's Super Bowl between the Saints and the Colts was the most watched in NFL history. While almost all of my American friends and family were glued to their TV sets, enjoying one of the best football games ever played, I was wandering around Vancouver, taking pictures of forests and skyscrapers. I had actually intended to spend a good amount of time at G-Sports, but I made the mistake of not plugging in my camera battery to recharge the night before, as well as using my phone for map directions during the day as I walked around. This left me with both of my main electronics dead by the time I made it back to my car around 6pm. Luckily, my laptop still had plenty of charge, so I fired it up and plugged the phone into the USB to steal a bit of battery so I could take at least a few more pictures before the night was over.

After leeching power for about half an hour, and following the game's score on my phone (out of country data charges slammed me later, woops), I decided it was time to pack it up and head over so I could at least enjoy the last 5 to 10 minutes of game time with everyone else. The bar was of course slammed (http://www.flickr.com/...), but I still managed to find a seat right at the bar. Pretty much everyone was cheering for the Saints, being the underdogs, and I think most people had little actual affiliation with either team. This was fine with me, as I really just wanted to see a good game.

The bartender, Sara, who was totally awesome, let me plug in my camera battery charger for the Canon, which meant I would have to use my phone for pictures while there, but I would have the DSLR back in action for dinner. She told me she used to actually have the same model, but it was stolen from her along with everything else in her room while she was backpacking through Vietnam. I felt awful as a comrade in photography, so I bought her a drink too. She poured me one of the most fantastic pints of Guinness (http://www.flickr.com/...) I've ever had (the beer options here are sparse and almost all corporate), with a neat little clover stamped into the top. After that I had one of the local beers, which I believe was called Red Truck. It was ok, a pretty normal easy drinking ale, but by that point the game was nearly over and the place was riotous with all the controversy going on during the game's final plays.

Once the game was finally over they started handing out some pretty awesome raffle prizes (http://www.flickr.com/...), which I unfortunately wasn't able to get hold of, as you had to be there from the beginning of the game to enter. I think one of them was even a complete home brewing kit, which is worth several hundred dollars. Shortly after that they cleared off the bar and instructed everyone to step back a bit. Then, almost out of nowhere, a handful of girls (http://www.flickr.com/...) climbed up on the bar in shorts and tank tops and began to dance, followed quickly thereafter by streams of water being shot at them from every fountain on the bar, and then more poured over (http://www.flickr.com/...) from buckets. I'm guessing this was planned all along, because it only lasted about 3 or 4 minutes, and after they strutted up and down a few times they got off and proceeded to leave, with all the men standing around with their mouths open like wolves.

Well that whole show was nice, but it made the bar a madhouse after. Getting any attention from the bartenders as they were trying to clean up, get resituated with all the patrons, and deal with the huge influx of people who came in from outside when they saw the wet t-shirt exhibit, was nearly impossible. I just left a stack of cash on the bar for Sara instead of trying to wait for someone, I hope she got it, because she was incredibly nice. As far as sports bars go, this place definitely has the right attitude.

I've gotta say, as a recently transplanted girl from the mid-atlantic US coast, when i think 'sports bar', this is exactly what i think of:

a narrowish hallway with a bar down one side and lots of big tv screens and high tops....the dark wood, flat screens and wall-mirror make it seem a little less industrious than it really is... wiIth an outdoor patio (facing the  ongoing street works) and a big screen tv out there too (so you don't miss a second of THAT all important match) this place has got ALL your games covered..

Standard bar-fare; but I've gotta say the cheese burger rocked! - it's been a while since I've eaten a cheeseburger, and even longer since I had one that came on a nicely toasted bun! and the fries! oh the fries.! - I love that i got the last of the bag; they were just nicely crisp with the right proportion of soft potato inside.

Service is better the closer to the taps you get. If you're 'in the lounge' be prepared to put down a credit card or pay for each round as you go. Drinks specials daily.

Great tv situation in this bar. They are everywhere, they are big flat screens, and there is no neck-craning to see the game or whatever you are watching.  The beer they have on special is awful.  We also ordered mussels and poutine, and both were fairly mediocre. But I suppose onbe does not frequent a sports bar for the food, but if you do end up eating here, be forewarned.  It is fairly clean for a sports bar, and ladies wouldn't feel weird in here.

We watched American college football here, and because nothing else was on, ALL the tvs were tuned to it.

Lots of televisions, TV trivia game to play when no sports is on, friendly staff, best alcohol prices on Granville, and the new food menu is really good too. Not much they could do to make it better really. The regular patrons generally really know their sports too especially the NFL fans.

Probably the best spot I've found so far to literally watch a sporting event... from the picture you can see how many TV screens they have - a ton.

Not much atmosphere here, though, and the nachos were just OK.  Very dry and cheap on the salsa.  You'd have to go early to get a seat at the bar.

Best sports bar in Vancouver, hands down.  Loads of tvs, every sports game on, late breakfasts on weekends and friendly staff.  They even will put on NCAAWB for me (on at least 1 tv) during March Madness.  Love this place.

I kept calling this place GSPOT haha.. Anyways this little bar cracks when there is a fight or a game. We went here to watch the Manny vs De La Hoya fight and it was crazy! You have to reserve tables for certain events and we got the best seats in the house a table for 12 right in front of the huge projector screen, We had a blast.
The nachos and the gravy fries were good lol. My cousin brought her own little bottle of alchy and we were drinking it under the table lol. We also ran into Cuba Gooding JR! haha.. Good times with the homies.

A pretty good joint on the Granville strip right beside Two Parrots - a semi-regular watering hole for me.  I haven't really given their food offerings a fair shake (I just remember getting some obscenely salty fries here once) - but the drinks are pretty reasonable for downtown.

Usually, there's a $4 special on Jager and Fireball shots and they offer cheapish pitchers of their G Sports Lager.  The waitresses here are pretty cool and the vibe is loud and busy.  Unfortunately, this sometimes means it may be a while until you can order up that next round.

As promised by the name, it's a true sports bar - tons of TVs everywhere and I dig the old school baseball cards under the table glass.

A-OK: a solid sports bar with pretty good drink specials.

Welcome addition as a sports bar in Vancouver. I've been twice now, once for a football game, and most recently to watch a Canucks game.

Super friendly staff, good drink specials, and surprisingly tasty food for a sports bar at good prices.

There is a back room you can book, plenty of tv's, and a long bar which people seemed to be at in both groups and solo. It's a long narrow room, so probably not the best for large groups.

side note.. watch out if the Canucks are playing well.. fireball shots are on special after they score a goal. The bartender rings a bell, and pretty much the whole bar does a shot.

Fun atmosphere... didn't give it 5 stars since it wasn't that busy either time I've been. I like to mingle and meet people at games. Hopefully more fun people will discover this place!

This is a great Sports Bar, because no matter what seat you sit in - you get a great a view of a TV screen!!!

Service is fantastic and prices reasonable.  Lots of pub style food.  Love the Lamb Burger with Goat Cheese and the Yam Fries.

During the daytime the staff are great they let my son in to hang out eat and watch sports.

G Sports is a relatively new bar on Granville and a welcome addition.  This is the closest sports bar to my apartment and I'm thankful for that.  I recently came here to watch the 'Nucks murder the Leafs and it couldn't have been watched from a better spot.

The G Sports lager comes cheap by the pitcher and is uncommonly refreshing.

The vast amount of flat screens are peppered throughout the room, and any seat has ample view.  The far end features a massive projection screen, but if it's game night come early to get a view.  Throughout the day they play sports of all kind, from soccer to horse racing, a true sports bar.

The speaker quality is not the best, but a good game should have enough cheering to negate that fact.  I was a little put off that they were charging cover to view the UFC fight, as I was already inside for the hockey game.  Fortunately the two did not overlap and I left content.

Had they evicted me before the expiration of third period and this review would have a distinctly different feel.

This is what a sports bar should be. Great tasting pub food selection, comfortable atmosphere, and excellent TV setup. The service is super friendly, attentive, and personal. The prices are reasonable and any angle is great for watching a game.

After having no fun at Red Card, I would highly recommend G-Sports.

I love me some sports!  NFL, NBA, footy, and even some NHL...

This is a great bar to saddle up to and have a shot of freezer cold jagger.  The staff are super friendly and the crowd that hangs out here invite you into conversations as quickly as you sit down.

if I could have my own Cheers, this would be it.  Try the sliders or the spinach salad.  you won't be disappointed.

I've got to be honest, I've never actually been here for a sporting event, but the prices are fairly reasonable and they have a great atmosphere.

This is one of those chill bars that I would go to, when I'm a little tight on money and looking to have a good druken night with friends.  The bar staff is always friendly and they usually have pretty good music blasting in the ever so loud sound systems.

Great spot to hang with friends.

When someone asks me where I want to watch the game I have to consider what sport- do I like the sport- what is the purpose of actually watching the game? Do I care?  If the answer is no then I will offer little say in where we end up. If the answer is yes, like say watching the NFL or soon to be watching March Madness then I will likely end up at G.

This bar definitely lives up to its name and offers one of the best venues to watch sports in the city. Screens can be seen from every which angle and is decorated with old school sports memorabilia.  This definitely isn't a go and be seen type of place-  rather instead is a place reserved for those who actually care about watching the game (s).

Bring a group or go by yourself- there's seating to accommodate all. They also offer a decent menu and lots of reasonably priced drinks.

No gimmicky distractions here- the place knows what it's about and executes it well.

Decent place to watch a game.  Food was nothing special and neither was the service.  Had the lamb burger with side salad and lamb was a bit dry and salad was drenched in oil.  Lots of tvs though and a bunch of energy for a canucks playoff game.
