Review from Christopher C.

Walking in to G & P is like stepping into another world. Ok, no, that sounds ridiculous and cheesy. Walking into G & P is like stepping into another town. G & P is located in a small, dingy strip mall along the highway, next to a gas station, a dive bar, and a bunch of trees. You'd expect the place to be some sort of mediocre "family diner" where you could sit at a mostly clean booth with torn vinyl seats and get greasy burgers and iceberg lettuce salads from a friendly but tired and overworked waitress. Maybe, if you're lucky, there would be some charming, unintentionally kitchy 70s decor, or some really good pie.
Instead, as you open the second set of doors, draped in dark sheer curtains, you find yourself in a shiny, upscale restaurant packed with diners in nice clothes. The windows all have dark shades on them and the tables are candlelit, giving you the evening dining experience without all the hassle of travelling south where they have night in the summertime. The dark ceiling has little tiny lights in it to look like the night sky, and if you watch long enough you will even see shooting stars. They have halogen lights pointing at arrays of those teardrop shaped cut glass pendants to make some sort of crystal chandeliers that should be tacky but are actually quite beautiful.
The service is excellent. Our waitress was friendly, chatty, and attentive, and quickly picked up that my friends were vegan when they asked if there was cheese on the salad. My wife and I, on the other hand, enjoyed the incredibly tasty saganaki (greek fried cheese). In addition to pizza, steak, and fish, they offer a selection of greek food--the hummus was deliciously garlicky, and my tiger prawn souvlaki was excellent. Fresh baked pitas and also very garlicky tzatziki rounded out my delicious meal. The drinks are good too--the strawberry daiquiri is excellent, fruity and not too sweet, and they also have Yukon Brewing beer on tap. -

In another review I threw G & P's name out as an option for dinner and, as it has been a couple of years, my wife and I thought it was time to give it another try. Yikes! On a beautiful June evening (this is the land of the midnight sun) we stepped into a cave. A really, really dark cave. Okay, I get it - you don't want to play up the fact that you are located beside a gas-station alongside the Alaska Highway, but seriously open the drapes and let some light in. I like ambiance as much as the next person but this was way beyond romantic and well on the way to to creepy. We didn't stay and we won't be back, which is a shame because they had (and perhaps have) pretty decent Greek food.
