This location is smaller, but certainly offers better service than the neighbouring Best Buy. The staff is knowledgeable, albeit they try to push you into making extra purchases all the time.

Something they don't advertise a lot about is their price match policy. If you can find an advertised price that's cheaper elsewhere at a reputable dealer, FS will match that price and give you a 10% discount!
If you're a photographer and wants to buy a new lens at FS instead of at Aden because of the warranty, you should print the PM policy of FS, Aden's price the morning you go, and a reference as to how Aden is a registered Canon dealer (or something like that). As long as you have the paperwork, they won't show any resistance ;)

I rarely venture out to this Future Shop (FS) with a best buy just down the street from this location. There is a reason for this even though Best Buy owns FS their service and business practices are quite different.
Best Buy doesn't have commissioned employees and their returns are straight forward. FS on the other hand has people hovering around in some sections (I guess due to high margin in those departments) while some sections are left at their own mercy and one has to chase someone to get service.
I was looking to get a new laptop as my current one is on its last legs. FS had a model that met my requirements. Guess what I couldn't find anyone to help me out. There were tons of laptops on display but quite a few of them were missing labels and tags so one couldn't tell what model they were and what are the specs.
I managed to pull up some specs from their website on my phone and finally flagged someone to help me out. Initially the sales person was adamant that they don't have laptop at that price with those specs. Seriously not according to your website. Anyway after reluctantly checking their inventory system he told me they did have the laptop but not in the color I wanted.
So guess what a useless trip that achieved nothing.
So folks come here and do your homework beforehand as you are not going to get any help here.

It's hard to decide between a 2 and a 3. I've had one great experience with a rep in the TV section (wish I could remember his name) who spent 4 hours helping my gf and I decide what the right TV was. That's incredible service and he was very patient. He was not as knowledgeable as I had wished, but did a great job.

But if you find yourself in the computer/printer/tech accessories section on a week day in the afternoon (I go during my lunch), good luck getting help. I stood for 20 minutes waiting for a rep just to ask about a certain tablet and when they expected more stock. A rep finally came to me and told me to expect the item at the end of the week, since Friday is when they get more stock. It's Tuesday now of the week just passed and still nothing. I don't blame the rep about the item not coming in because of the way distribution works, but I do blame them for telling me something that wasn't true.

I never thought I would be writing such a positive review of Future Shop. My boyfriend who I finally converted to Macs, of course bought a lemon. After three weeks his frustration his the breaking point. So we backed it up and went back to future shop where we were informed there's a 14 day limit to returning an item.. ouch.

The GREAT news though is that the technical support manager, Paresh was so wonderful in hearing out concerns and our reason for why we didn't' come sooner that he didn't hesitate replace it on the spot rather then go thru the months of trying to figure out what was wrong with it.

It was a highly painless experience and we couldn't have been treated better. We will definitely be returning customers.

I avoid shopping at Future Shop whenever possible, simply because of their overeager employees (maybe it's just me but I hate being pounced on as soon as I start looking at items) and...the inevitable pitching of the "protection plan" (google for more info on this - extended warranty plans are generally considered a waste of money in most cases, and are pure profit for the retailer).

Last time I did shop here, I clearly told the salesperson that I did NOT want the plan - and as expected I still got the pitch. I just wanted to pay for my item. Having to repeat myself and get into a situation that felt confrontational - the nice salesperson became gradually less nice - was a waste of my time and energy. I left feeling quite resentful and vowed to always go over to Best Buy instead  (yes, it is the same company but BB employees are not on commission - less "pouncing" on customers and less intensive pitching of the extended warranty).

Stores have to really stop promoting their extended warranty schemes!
This really cheapens the product and leaves the buyer in doubt whether the electronics will work or not.

Future Shop has a lot of potential as an electronics store, but they can be ridiculous.  For instance, I bought a Sony MP3 player for $79 and they asked me if I wanted an extended warranty for $30.  I realized that the warrant was half the price of the actual product. This is just a way for the store to exploit people and take extra money from them.

I had a really good experience here.  Having done a ton of research on the perfect TV, we went with an item and price in mind.  Our sales guy Umang, literally knew EVERYTHING about TVs.  He had worked in the same department for 5 years, and could quote you statistics on returns, sales, pixels, herts, gerts and werts.  He probably knew the meaning of life too, but I didn't have all day.
We left with a tv better than we had expected, with a price that was better than I could have hoped.  I would definitely go back...but only to deal with Umang!

So, today I discovered the key difference between the Best Buy at Dundas and Yonge, and the Future Shop at Dundas and Yonge.  That would be the commission scheme.  You see, Best Buy (http://www.yelp.ca/biz...), does not have a commission scheme and the staff will still look after you knowing that they are being paid fairly for the service they provide.

This particular Future Shop has all the charm of the market from "Raiders of the Lost Ark", there's merchandise everywhere and salesman running around eyeing you pornographically, circling the same way that sharks do before swooping in for the "commission".  In attempting to buy a pair of headphones for a computer, I was happened upon by one of the serfs with dollar signs for eyes.  Taken to the Phone section (that's right, not the Computer Accessory section that you'd anticipate), I was assured that definitely, definitely, this pair of headphones would work.

They didn't.  Add to this that your sales rep will have to take everything from you and bring it to the front cash.  That is of course if they don't take off looking for more victims while you further browse.  The experience is frightful, but if you can handle the madness when sales are on, you could find decent buys.  I prefer to pay a wee bit extra to not be bothered.

Yesterday I went to this Future Shop to find a cheap computer printer.
When I got there an employee pointed me in the direction printers were. He was very nice and said if I needed help someone would deffinitly assist me.
When I got to the printer section immediatly after a woman assisted me with my purchase.
I was disapointed to find out that printers are sold w/out cables to connect to your computer! The cheapest printer was around 60$ no cable. So told me you can purchase a cable for an addicional 30$ but said that it would be a better deal if you just bought a wireless printer instead. It would turn out to be about the same price.
The woman was running back and forth for me checking prices and checking other stores prices to see if they can give me some sort of discount.
The wireless printer was 99$ ! Wayy out of my budget!

Eventually I did buy the printer from her.
She saved me an additional $15 on the wireless printer!

The service at this store was excellent!!
I did not feel pressured to buy anything.
And when the lady was off looking for better deals many other sales associates were asking if i needed assistance!
I felt very good leaving there!
I will deffinitly go back to that store again if I need any electronics.

    Eurgh!

I wanted to give them my money.  I was pretty desperate to buy a TV having moved into a bare apartment and was badly in need of entertainment/something to fill the gaps.   I had my credit card out and was my muscles were twitching ready to hand it over.  They ruined it.

My salesman (Umang?) was all sweet and helpful, lots of "thank you ma'am"s etc.  He got the TV out.  We went to the register.  Then the pitch started.  I got 10 minutes of the Future Shop extended warranty talk.  He told me about how TVs were like computers these days, about all the things that could go wrong, about their no lemon guarantee, their in-home service, the disasters that surely would befall me and all my family and friends (fire, flood, pestilence, locusts...I think) if I did not agree to spend what amounted to 25% of the cost of the TV on their warranty.  He spoke so quickly my head was spinning and I was totally confused.  I generally make a point of NOT buying the extended warranty on anything other than expensive laptops but didn't know what to do.  I needed air and Google.  I said that I needed to think about it.  He was shocked "what happened here?!?".  I mumbled something about the warranty and he back-tracked saying I could add it later.  At that stage I was desperate to leave so fled.  He could have had a sale but instead I haven't even entered the place in 2 months.  Aggressive sales are the best way NOT to get me to buy something.  I later chatted with the guy in Tele City who said that the margin on cheaper TVs is so small that the stores make barely anything on them...hence the push for lucrative extended warranties.

They do have a good selection of products and all the brand names.  They often have good offers and sales.  My advice though?  Shop online or go in feeling "fierce" (ref Tyra Banks, America's Next Top Model) and having decided whether or not you want to hand over a wad of cash for a warranty.

Across the street from the Eaton Centre, this Future Shop location offers shoppers a nice range of consumer electronics and media (DVDs, Blu-Rays). Although they retain a separate brand, the company is owned by Best Buy. Unlike Best Buy, Future Shop lacks a loyalty program such as Rewards Zone, but offer their own brand name credit. Customer service is good, but the selection of consumer goods is not as vast as the Best Buy down the street close to the Dundas and Bay Streets intersection.
