Review from Crystal H.
Vancouver, BC
Okay, I admit it... I get tingly and a bounce joins my step whenever I think of street food. But this, this is EXACTLY what Vancouver/Richmond has been in serious need of.
Ladies, gentlemen, my fellow yelpers, I present to you the pick-your-own sushi Cone.
[waits for applause to die down]
Squished between Tenku http://www.yelp.ca/biz... and Shoryumen http://www.yelp.ca/biz... is now the food truck/van, Fumisen, and the reason why I'll be taking Granville rather than Oak to get to Richmond from now on.
My cone roller was adorable. He politely asked me to wait while he set to work crafting rolls for the people ahead of me. And then wrote out my order. When I paid (cash only, of course) I asked if the wooden box with slots was for tips and he said yes. You should have seen him jump around exclaiming arigat, arigat. I've never been happier to give someone a tip! When my roll was ready he insisted I add just a touch of soya sauce and then he smiled widely while I took my first delicious bite. Sooooo good.
So how does it work?
Step One - choose your wrap: I picked nori.
Step Two - Pick a rice: I picked sushi rice.
Step Three - Pick a protein: tuna sashimi all the way (and SOOOO tasty and fresh)
Step Four - Pick 2 veggies: cucumber and avocado
Step Five - Pick a sauce: wasabi mayo
Hang around and watch everyone else take pictures of the Inukshuk constructed of freight containers (huh?) and eat up.Listed in: Vancouver Sushi Love, Cart Food on Vancouver's…

Decisions, decisions, decisions!
Be prepared to make your decisions to create your own sushi cone here!
Nori wrap or soy crepe wrap? Regular sushi rice or salmon rice? What size? Then comes the ingredients...
Choose one from the main ingredient list: salmon, tuna, chopped scallop, hamachi, unagi....the list goes on! Then comes the 2 'side' ingredients: cucumber, mango, avocado, lettuce....too many items to list! Lastly, the 'dressing': mayo, wasabi mayo, spicy sauce...
Oh, I must have stood there for at least a couple of minutes trying to narrow down what I wanted (yes, I'm a very indecisive person.)
At last, my cone: medium sized, with nori and salmon rice, filled with hamachi, mango, and avocado, topped with wasabi mayo. Minutes later, I received my treat.
Needless to say, one bite into this and I was in love!! The salmon rice was something different. The hamachi was fresh, and the wonderful combination of avocado and mango added that bit of creaminess and sweetness, all mingling together!! -

"Japanese Food Village" - I love it!! While it took me 20 minutes out of my way and lots of googling and twittering to figure out that Tenku et al had moved locations, the hunt was part of the charm I guess!
Pulled up to an industrial looking garage warehouse, with a few paper lanterns and signs to indicate that I was indeed at the right place.
Super friendly service from the sushi-cone man. Pick your cone size, small, large, jumbo etc. Pick your cone type - nori or tamago/soy sheet. Pick your rice: regular rice, sushi rice and salmon rice (rice seasoned with salmon flakes - tasty!). Fill 'er up with your choice! Lots of combinations to choose from and some non-traditional choices like green apple and mango. I went with chopped scallop - so surpisingly fresh and tasty - cucumber and tobiko, topped with wasabi mayo. No soy sauce needed.
If I worked in this area, I would be here all the time for lunch !!
