used to work right next door so maybe went for lunch every few weeks and had a lunch special, nothing really great, nothing really bad - filled the spot. Had a deafind coupon so ordered outside the box and while the sushi was good the wait was not acceptable for a lunch time, about 40 minutes after ordering (despite repeated reminders to server who just smiled) had to gobble down and take half with us - so if you want something other than the lunch boxes, go at night.

Fuji Yama is downtown but I have to say the location is a little inconvenient. The parking is exorbitantly expensive in this area if you go anytime where the parking is at regular rates.
It's really nice on the inside, there are great private booths for whatever dining occasion. The prices are definitely a little higher than other places. Though I do see a lot more artistry in their rolls and presentation than maybe some other places I didn't find the rolls to be that different and the sashimi pieces that big for the slightly higher prices. I will admit that it all tasted great, I really enjoyed their avocado and smoked salmon salad - it was delicate and flavorful, and a perfect starter. The rolls weren't that different from what I've seen other places, but they did taste wonderful. The service was fine, it was neither bad nor good, but not that memorable. The tea wasn't refilled as quickly as I would have liked, as it wasn't that busy when we dined. The beef tataki wasn't as sour as I'd like, and was not a very generous portion for the price.
If this is a convenient location for lunch for you, I would recommend it if you have extra time. The service is known to be a little slow, but I will say the food is worth it. It wouldn't be my first choice for sushi only because the location and prices are not very competitive; however I will reiterate the food was actually quite good. -

I like coming here for lunch.
However it is ALWAYS crazy busy at lunch so make a reservation.
The servers are curt, and always run off their feet. It's not really their fault that they're so busy but I little bit friendlier service would be nice.
I usually get the chicken katsu which is really good here. Chicken kushiage is good here too.
The best part might be the salad dressing that comes on the lunch special salad. It's just so good I don't know what's in there!!!
Food is always better in restaurant the takeout isn't great.
It is a crazy loud place, so if you're looking for a relaxing meal you won't get it here. -

This is one of my favourite Japanese restaurants in the downtown core. The food is quite authentic and the service is good. While it may not be as traditional and authentic as some of the other Japanese restaurants that I've been to around town, it is a convenient place for lunch if you're craving sushi. They have 2-item or 3-item lunch sets that you can choose from (which includes soup and salad) and you can choose from a whole menu of items (some cooked and some raw). It has items for everyone... so if you're lunching with some co-workers who're not die hard raw fish fans, there are menu items for them too. The lunch set prices are quite reasonable and in my opinion, very good value.
Not only is it good value, but the texture of the rolls and sushi is very good. I personally can't stand sushi rice that have been pressed by a machine. I'm pretty sure the chefs at Fuji yama hand squeeze the sushi rice as it is reflected in the texture of the sushi.
