*Sigh* The disappointment is more severe when you really want to like something. Cute colours, minimal decor, in my mind Betty Boop was in line behind me, you know - the healthier version of a cupcake.

But in the end I didn't leave with the distinctive sweet taste of yummy frozenness -- I left with empty lower-fat calories. How much did I pay again? With a dollar for one topping - that just makes me sad!

I remember the days of y'or when Yogen Fruz smooshed your topping into the machine and out popped a fruity treat... this was not that day.

Ok, apparently Lolia S' influence is reaching north of the border in the sudden rash of froyo openings.

I'm not the expert that Lolia S is - but this one just didn't compare to Qoola on Denman (http://www.yelp.ca/biz...).

The yogurt was overly icy and a bit too hard (ok, Lolia - technical terms for this please?!?!?!?!).  Is this a sign they used powder perhaps?  It just lacked the creaminess and yogurty flavour of Qoola.

The strawberries were a bit sorry looking - having been cut and starting to dehydrate a bit as they can if they sit around.  They were cut into such small pieces that when added to the overly icy yogurt the strawberries turned into little strawberry ice squares.  Didn't work for me.

Oh, Modern Mix has a 2 for 1 coupon good until February 28th for those of you that want to double fist it and try it for yourself:  http://modernmixvancou...

Thanks to Marc D.'s review, I headed over to FS with coupon-in-hand eagerly expecting some icy froyo. Unlike Marc, I love it when the yogurt is hard, so I was so sad to receive my cup of super creamy (to the point that it looked like cream cheese or cake frosting) swirl.

I'm a plain-yogurt-froyo nut and have been engulfing them from the place of their origins (Red Mango in Korea) to the first US copy (Pink Berry in California) to copycats all over the world (Tutti Fruitt in Vietnam, Pho shops in WA, Yogurtland in CA, etc...), and in comparison, Froyo Swirl falls short. I agree with Marc here, it definitely didn't taste tart enough cause it be lacking the yogurty flava-flav. Their narrow cups also restrict the amount of toppings that can balance atop the yogurt without rolling onto the floor.

The thing I did like about Froyo Swirl was the cute and clean ambiance (loved how there were fun magazines laying out for customers to pick up) and the friendly management - the owner happened to be there when we arrived and she was sweet and sophisticated.

It's hard to please with so many different preferences out there, but for my taste buds, Froyo Swirl didn't satisfy.

I just had to try it for myself to verify that this place disappoints.

The single original yogurt flavour is a joke. Not even matcha green tea? How about a Summer flavour to keep people interested? But it doesn't matter because the froyo was bland. It just had a minute amount of flavour. You had to dig deep into your taste buds to appreciate any tartness of the yogurt.

I thought they were cheap at CAD2.75 for a regular. You pay additional CAD1.00 for a single topping or CAD2.00 for three toppings. I can't complain on the amount of toppings on the cup. I will have to complain on the amount of yogurt. At first it looks like they put a lot, until you take the top off and realize there's a big empty hole down thru the middle. The server skillfully dispensed yogurt to fill the perimeter of the cup while leaving the centre unfilled.

At CAD4.99, I just kicked myself (yes, I did and you should have seen how silly and stupid it looked. :P) and asked God why I didn't just go to Qoola. Why, God?!

We stumbled upon this one  on our way to the commotion over at the downtown library.

I had never heard or seen this place before so in we walked.

I've gone to Qoola on Denman and my review stated it was overpriced and it still is.  This one is cheaper without the weird specials at Qoola to pay less.

She offered me a sample of their yogurt ice cream. OK before I go on. I don't like yogurt if I eat it, it is as frozen yogurt.  This tasted way too much like real yogurt to me but my friend absolutely loved it!  They only offer the one flavour, vanilla then your choice of toppings.

As for me, I headed to yogen fruz for chocolate yogurt.  Mmmmmm!

I have noticed lately the appearance/reinvention of the frozen yogurt phenom. A whole bunch trendier, hipper using all that wonderful marketing language of natural and organic etc etc.

So a bunch of us at work decided to check this place out...it helped that  we had 2 for 1 coupons and it is right around the corner from our building. What a better way to waste time on a sunny  Friday afternoon right before a long weekend??

So we head over and the first thing we are surprised by was the fact there is one flavour of ice yogurt...vanilla. Ok no big deal...you top if off with toppings and fruit right??? Well the selection was a bit stark and unimaginative if you ask me...bakers chocolate chips direct from the supermarket...you could tell because they had the white waxy finish. Yuk.

Now I am celiac and have to eat gluten free. So the first thing I do is ask if they have the ingredient list for the yogurt...just to be on the safe side. Some of you may say "That's strange, its just yogurt so its milk silly girl!" Well you would be surprised how many "just yogurts" out there actually have gluten in them. Anyways, the girl looked at me and said no we don't have an ingredient list. Hello! Even McDonald's can pull out a list of ingredients and nutritional stats on all their food. She told me to go their website.  Well much good that does me as I am standing in the store waiting to order. I asked if she new whether it was gluten free. She said oh yeah its fine. Well my urge for frozen yogurt outweighed my need to slap her for being so glib. So I decided to order a yogurt...what the hell it was 2 for 1.

So I ordered a yogurt with chocolate chips and raspberries. I noted that I paid about 20cents per rapsberry as she carefully selected 5 raspberries and straegically placed them on my yogurt. That was a smart $1 I spent. So with my yogurt made she went on to complete my co-workers  orders. Alas, the machine broke. No more yogurt. So in the group of 4 of us (soon to increase to 5) no one got an order except me. At that point I had not paid and she asked us to wait a few minutes and she would solve the problem. She did however take another person's order, someone not in our group, and got them to pay before the machine was fixed?!?!?!  After 2 phone calls and about 10 minutes of sitting around the machine was still broken. She had put my yogurt in the fridge in the back to keep cool as I didn't want to eat alone in front of everyone. As our impromtu afternoon break was quickly runing short on time we stood up and left and headed over to the less trendy, old-school alternative...Yogen Fruz. Maybe some things are best left alone?

Very disappointing experience. Will not return...too bad. Its location and product had such potential to become a regular summer afternoon diversion from work.
