The Frog & Firkin is one of those places that nobody loves, but you always end up there anyway, especially if you're with a large group. They're easy and accommodating and everyone will be able to find food and drinks that they like. It's not amazing, but it's fine. It'll do the job in a trick.

We ended up here on Friday after trying to go to the Maple Grill and finding out that it was closed Friday nights. When in doubt, and you're in the neighbourhood, go to the Firkin.

Despite it being fairly busy, they managed to find us a large table and were good about finding extra seats for others as they came in to meet us later. Drinks were served promptly, and food orders were taken reasonably quickly. The waitress forgot to get my one friend's order but immediately realized, came back and apologized.

I was in the mood for a burger so I got the mushroom and swiss burger. It's fine. A little dry, perhaps, as most burgers tend to be, but it was fine. Nothing exciting. That's how most of the menu is.

Is it my first choice for a place for dinner or drinks? Certainly not. Would I go back? Sure.

    This place is reliable.
It's a great place for small or big groups
Book the back room with the fireplace if you have a party of a dozen and want an intimiateish gathering at a pub

this is a place where you go with your friends to catchup
it is NOT a place where you meet people or go "out" like the coppertank.

It doesn't MAKE a night- it's a good starter though and a good meeting place.

so go here for its intended purpose and you will always feel good about sitting in the comfy red cushy seats watching the game.

I feel like I should like this place better.  I really do.  An unassuming cozy pub is just what I need...but unfortunately this one is not it.

The food is standard pub fare, but just kind of that...standard. Not bad, but not great either. The atmosphere is probably what gets me most though...I feel like it should be far more comfy or endearing. But instead it feels like that one strange cousin we all have that kind of tries to be cool but just comes off awkward and uncomfortable.

I do have to say, though, that I once had a great breakfast here with yummy sangrias and ceasars to chase the previous night's drinking away.

Frog and Firkin is a bit removed from the main bar drags, adding to its appeal. The atmosphere is distinctly friendlier and more neighbourly than a lot of bars that have been resurrected as of late, where it's more about being seen than having a good time.

Each day has a different drink special making each night fun, regardless of the day. The décor is a bit modest (*cough*dingy*cough, cough*) while music isn't on the muted side (meaning that, thankfully, it isn't at the highest volume possible). All in all, the Frog and Firkin is a nice place to relax and hang out with your friends over a few pints of beer.

I couldn't get a smile out of my waitress.  It just wouldn't happen.  I also had a hard time getting the bill.

We came for the Wednesday night specials and left regretting we ever did.  We wanted to watch the Stanley Cup, but had to wait for the baseball game to finish.  I know it's a Canadian team, but hockey is Canada's game.  Then the music was turned on instead of the play-by-play.  What?

Wings were OK and the drinks were meh.  The dinner portions looked big, though, if you can stand being in this place..

The Frog and Firkin succeeds as a neighborhood watering hole. It's quite dark inside. So much so I don't think I'd even recognize it to see it in the daylight.

With the beer specials you can sip a pint here for under $5. Although the change doesn't leave much for a tip. I've not had any of the eats but what I've seen served to other tables appears to be typical pub grub. For some insight: Chicken Alfredo clocks in as "fine fare" and the only notable point on the appetizer menu is that you can add beef to the nachos as well as chicken.

The Frog and Firkin also appeals to people who like a little sports action with their drinks. Not me (I'm actually feel nauseous at the thought of my senses being numbed by watching ESPN on a big-screen TV. That or it's all that X-mas chocolate I'm eating). But if, unlike me, you like a good view of the tv from your table, you'll likely appreciate this spot.

Was in Vancouver for a night and kind of got lost and ended up in the Frog and Firkin on the night of the Grey Cup. We wandered in and at first the service seemed cold and aloof, but after she brought us our first round of drinks she warmed up a bit. I think we may have come in during that time when, that if you get seated again, the hostess is going to die painfully at your hand, (If you have ever waited tables you know what I mean).

Drinks were good-- Appetizers were out quickly. Two of the items they were out of so that is minus one star. I had a steak that was cooked beautifully, but came out with their sauce on it. The sauce, while tasty, was applied to heavily and I scrapped most of it off.

Next time I am in Vancouver and lost, I would certainly try it again.

The Frog & Firkin is not my favourite place in the world, but it gets the job done.  It's alright if you're in the neighbourhood.
