It's quite easy to enjoy this place with a Groupon to cut down on the cost a little bit. I'm not sure I'd be able to stay in good conscious at $250 a night. It's super fun to watch the ferry come and go and it's great walking into town to shop and eat.
Bottom line: this is a very enjoyable Inn with incredible views, friendly staff, yummy food and be sure to snatch up a Groupon for it during the 'off season' so you're really able to relax without buyers remorse. -

My wife and I have been staying at the Friday Harbor House for the last 5 years on New Year's Eve as a tradition of ours to break in the New Year. The last 5 years have been a 5-star experience except for our most recent stay. We have always stayed in the same room the last 5 years since the hotel has been very accommodating. This year I booked the room a couple of months advanced and requested the same room and the front desk said it would not be a problem. We checked in on 12/30 and were told the room was booked and we were moved to a different room. The view outside of the room was okay (#29) but not as nice as our previous room and the TV was considerably smaller (yes, it is a tradition to watch our favorite DVDs every year). We requested a larger TV and they were not able to accommodate
It is also a tradition to have NYE dinner at The Bluff. We saw the menu this year and realize it was similar to last year and we decided to opt out. We were hoping a different menu since we were not as pleased with last year's NYE menu. We ended up going to Coho Restaurant instead.
I know this review may appear as being nitpicky but, this is a tradition for my wife and I every year and this is something that we look forward to every year. Honestly, I don't know if we will be back in 2012... -

We have stayed at the Friday Harbor House at least 5 times over the last 4 years. We absolutely LOVE this getaway. It's close enough to Seattle to not regret the travel time and far enough way to appreciate relaxing on the island and giving into "island time." This is truly an adult resort meant for good food, good relaxation and romance. We were extra appreciative this visit after the staff went out of their way to accommodate us. They delivered our free appetizer (from Living Social) to our room because we had arrived late the night before and didn't have time to dine in the restaurant. They helped arrange dinner plans and Cindy went out of her way to make sure our night turned out great. She was even there an hour after the front desk closed and was able to check us in. We are truly devoted to this resort and all it's charms :)

I loove it here. The staff, the views, the food, the tub...I want to go back and curl up next to the fireplace with a book and their warm, fuzzy robe and a glass of wine. A great place to spend with your SO for a quick getaway. -

Boyfriend and I bought a living social deal for this Inn. We cannot say enough good things about this place. The room was very clean, had a wonderful view and it was exactly what we expected based on the pictures shown on the deal site.
As mentioned on other reviews, they do offer a free continental breakfast with lots of options.
The staff was very friendly as well. I would recommend this place to anyone who needs a romantic getaway :) -

My girlfriend and I bought a overnight package at the Friday Harbor House, through the Living Social deals. Obviously, not living on the island, our first thing was to get out there. Since it was a Sunday to Monday trip the ferries weren't bad at all.
Friday Harbor House is only a block away from the ferry terminals, which made it very convienent. It sits near the north part of Friday Harbor. All the restaurants and shops were within easy walking distance of the hotel.
Once we checked it, we were very satisfied with the room. The room had a warm feel to it. Nothing overly gaudy or modern. To me the room felt like a seaside lodge. The room had king size bed, which was very comfortable. There were large windows that open and overlooked the harbor itself. The bathroom had wood trim and dark tile. It also had a jetted bath tub and a seperate shower. One can open the panel dividing the room and the bathroom, so that if you sat in the tub you can still look out the windows at the harbor.
The service we got at the hotel was excellent. The staff was very friendly and professional. We went during the winter, so it wasn't terribly busy. I have no idea how busy this place gets during the summer.
Overall I really enjoyed our stay at the Friday Harbor House. And given the chance, I would definitely go back. -

I came here for my fiancee's 30th birthday, and we had a wonderful time. We missed our ferry, of course, and didn't get there until 930PM or so, just as the restaurant was closing, but they let us order dinner there and brought it up to our room for us. Dinner was delicious and our room was beautiful. The staff was gracious and helpful. I'd ordered wine and cheese for our room beforehand and I definitely recommend that, especially if you might get in late. The cheese platter was delicious and it was so relaxing to have it there as soon as we walked in the door. We just changed right into our robes and ate by the fireplace overlooking the harbor.
We were on the third floor and our view was amazing. It is true that not all of the jacuzzi tubs open into the room as the photos suggest - ours was in a separate bathroom. I don't think I would have traded rooms though. I wanted to move in to ours. I can't wait to go back. -

My husband took me here for an overnight with the expectation that we will have a relaxing romantic stay with a waterfront view room. Upon arrival we could not find any parking. We ended up having to walk with our luggage down the street to the hotel after searching for parking too long. Come to find out, the guy who checked us in said all the employees park in the spots including himself while winking and saying they aren't supposed to but they do. We were told to make sure to move our car every 2 hours or it will get towed so that was not acceptable but we had no choice.
It's a cute place but the lobby is tiny so more than one couple checking in becomes a problem. This space is the restaurant entrance, elevator entrance to all rooms and check in which is really cramped.
Making the reservation was painful as it took 20 minutes to reserve the room and at the end the employee had the wrong day in the computer so had to redo everything.
After traveling for hours to get here, we entered our room and to our dismay hear a newborn baby screaming and a toddler in the next room. Not only are the walls PAPER THIN, but I cannot imagine letting kids under the age of 4 allowed in a place like this. We went downstairs again and the guy who checked us in knew these kids were here but put us in that room anyway so we asked to be moved. He did end up calling to the room to find out that the newborn isn't staying the night but the toddler is. We were placed in a partial water view room instead and could hear the couple next door to this room watching football so this is not a place to go for quiet. The room was to come with truffles and wine, but they forgot the truffles.
We had dinner at The Bluff restaurant which is downstairs and again I was disappointed. I ordered the island green salad which was filled with 80 percent cabbage. The steak was covered in a sweet bbq type sauce and overpowered the taste of a good cut of meat. We ended up going next door for dessert as I was tired of the let down with my food.
The breakfast was the last disappoint of the trip. We came down an hour before breakfast was to be done and they were out of the one hot savory dish (frittata) and I was told they will not be making more. One cinnamon roll was left and rock hard. The scones and muffins also were stale. I ended up not eating any breakfast and had to go out for a meal. The staff was nice, but this place is NOT where I would ever go for a relaxing overnight or good food.Comment from Kyle N. of Friday Harbor House 3/7/2012

Loved it! Loved it! Loved it!
Hubby brought me here on a surprise birthday trip and I was happy as a bee the entire weekend! The room was surprisingly (and pleasantly) similar to when we stayed at the Port Ludlow resort (where we got married) - jetted tub in the middle of the room, view of the harbor, etc. Loved the bathrobes (love to stay at hotels that provide them), beautiful room decor, lots of pillows and cushions on the bed, fireplace, etc. Located just a couple blocks off the ferry landing and close to everything!
Friendly service, free DVD rentals, a comfy lounge room where I read my Saturday paper and watched some news, restaurant/bar in the lobby, free parking & wi-fi...all-around awesome time!
Looking forward to a return trip soon! -

Our stay here couldn't possibly have been better. Honestly, we didn't want to leave the room it was so gorgeous! We booked the "Romancing the Bluff" package, which consisted of some special treats in our room upon check in, $75 "bluff bucks" to the hotel restaurant and some pelindaba lavendar spa products to promote relaxation :)
This was my first trip to Friday Harbor and I was worried that once we got off the ferry the hotel would be hard to find...silly me. It's right off the ferry! We arrived at about 3:30 and were escorted right to our room by the super friendly staff. We then proceeded to spend three very relaxing days lazing about the grounds, reading by firelight in the room (they have a take a book, leave a book area), enjoying the jetted tub, borrowing movies from downstairs, and occassionally leaving the room to enjoy a cocktail or take advantage of the complimentary breakfast (cold and hot items, juices, coffee). I've never slept on a softer hotel pillow, btw. Those things were magic! And the bed was pretty comfy too.
The sunrises from the harbor facing rooms were some of the prettiest I've ever seen, and you just can't beat the view. If you need a place to decompress, I would highly recommend doing it here. I just wish I had tried out the spa! -

****UPDATE**** (originally I gave them 1 star for our experience) But now I am giving them 2 extra stars because the hotel management personally called us the other morning. After noticing we had checked in and then checked right out, they want to help fix our experience. I was very surprised by this, and appreciative. We will try staying there again, and I will update this review afterwords and also change the star rating accordingly at that time. Unfortunately, with our busy schedules, it might not be till this Spring...5 months from now...

It was a girls weekend in Friday Harbor and we spent 2 nights at this hotel. Everything about our experience from start to finish was fantastic.
Front desk staff was so friendly and inviting, they always smiled and had plenty of tips on things to do, places to eat and visit.
Our suites had open jetted tubs, organic bathroom products, gas fire places, flat panel TV with DVD player, you could checkout movies at the front desk at no additional cost. There was even an iPod dock. The view overlooking the harbor was so picturesque, especially early morning.
Hotel offers complimentary continental breakfast...and this is not your run of the mill fare. Everything was made fresh in the kitchen from the pastries, to jams, to egg fritatta, to waffles...absolutely delicious. The gentleman who prepared breakfast, was so welcoming and took great pride in making us feel at home.
The downstairs restaurant has a great view and we sampled a couples of things on the menu...clam chowder was delish with a spicy kick and crispy, perfectly cooked shoe string fries.
Rooms and everything at the hotel were immaculately clean and the beds were very comfortable.
This place makes for a perfect getaway from the city.Listed in: Back At The Hotel

I had an amazing stay at Friday Harbor House for two nights with my girlfriend. As you enter the inn, you will find that the decor is simple, and the hotel is not flashy. On the other hand, I think it is very elegant and "northwest", especially in the room. The room had an outstanding view of the harbor, a huge soaking tub, and a fireplace. It was really beautiful. The people who worked there were very helpful and down to earth. The location is fabulous right in Friday harbor. The included breakfast was mostly simple continental but also with frittata, hardboiled eggs, and was quite nice. Can't beat the view from the restaurant and its lovely outdoor area as well. The only reason I took one star off is that the price is quite expensive, but I still think it is worth it if you are coming to San Juan Island and want a nice place to stay.

My boyfriend brought me here for our anniversary and it was such a wonderful time.
PROS:
1. Awesome, romantic rooms: open jacuzzi with (optional) curtain from the bed area, bathrobes, fireplace, screen doors which open out onto the waterfront, etc. Plus, it even had an iPod home to play your iPod!
2. View: Like I said, the room opened up into a grassy area with a gorgeous view of the other San Juan islands and water.
3. Great service at the hotel restaurant.
4. Free parking.
5. Free wifi.
CONS:
Only gripe we had was that the food at the restaurant was just okay. Our dinners were average, but great portion size. Continental breakfast was a little better and they kept the food stocked up. Also, they only had whole milk! Where was the 2% for calorie counters like me? :)
Guys, take your significant others here. They will enjoy it for sure. -

This is a review for the hotel, not the attached restaurant. Maybe someone should bust them apart?
Amenities include wireless, free breakfast (ours had good variety, not just starches), close to everything, jetted tubs, some rooms with views, Aveda goods in the rooms, robes, and just good fung shui. Clean and modern, too!
Only minuses are that the wireless is a little dodgy and the front desk is not manned past 8 when the restaurant is not open. -

Time to spend a little laid-back vacation time at Friday Harbor on San Juan Island just north of Puget Sound. There are a variety of places to stay on the island, from bed & breakfasts to a Best Western but I chose Friday Harbor House for the luxury factor.
An amazing view, big-ass jacuzzi tub, fireplace, bathrobes, and upscale furnishings made this a great place to stay. Oh and I forgot to mention the complimentary continental breakfast (fruit, waffles, cereal, sinfully delicious cinnamon rolls, muffins...) It's a bit pricier than other places but if you want comfort or a romantic stay, this is worth it. And considering I was here in the middle of summer at the height of tourist season, the cost really wasn't that outlandish.
The staff was friendly and mostly helpful. I say "mostly" as my one complaint kept this from being a 5-star rating. Although we arrived on the island early, we were not allowed an early check-in and had to wait until the official check-in time. And when we were not out of the room within a few minutes after the official check-out time, we received a phone call. This, we later learned, was to accommodate someone else's early check-in request. I guess some guests are given preferential treatment. Sour grapes aside, it was a nice stay. -

We took advantage of the Living Social deal and went for our 25th anniversary. Beautiful third floor room with balcony overlooking the harbor, fireplace, jetted bathtub, wonderfully comfortable bed. Walking distance from ferry, close enough to walk all over town. Easy checkin, checkoutt, free parkin, free DVD's and the Bluff restaurant is he best in town.
We'll be back! Thank you...... -

Perhaps the best hotel I've ever stayed in. Huge tub with water jet that is incorporated into the room as a barrier between the bedroom and the bathroom sink. It makes the room feel luxurious. Add in a comfortable bed, a gas fireplace, wireless Internet and a view of the harbor and this place is gorgeous.

The place is clean, comfy and definately a great place to stay if your on the Island. It has a woodsy spa feel to it, and not at all pretentious. The jetted tubs and the views of the ferry coming in make this an awesome hotel to stay in. I didn't get a chance to try the restaurant, but it sure did smell good on the way in/out.

Spent a special night up here for my girlfriend's birthday. They were extremely accomadting and hospitable with such nice touches as when arriving early they took a cell phone number to call us when our room was ready for early check-in, and extended us late checkout as well. There was also a complimentary DVD collection that you could borrow from.
They told us that if we needed to call the General Manager his number would be posted and he would help us with whatever we needed after the office closed down.
They also gave us a solid recommendation for a lunch place on Sunday afternoon (Downriggers).
Their complimentary continental breakfast was the best I've ever experienced. They had fritattas and some gourmet pastries as well as all of the regulars. Even a waffle iron.
The service was really good at breakfast, unfortunately our dinner experience was a little bit marred by slow service (we waited an hour to get a cold plate) but I will save the rest of that for the restaurant review.
All-in-all a great hotel with a nice mix of modern design and cozy charm. -

I'll agree it's the best restaurant on the island. I had a fabulous meal there the other night... the view is spectacular and the decor is modern and minimalist. My only complaint, I wish they served more seafood. Who wants beef or chicken when they're in the San Juans?...

I hate to say it, but in this case, paying more for the room was really worth it. This room, with it's clean modern materials, new zealand soaps, oversized jet tubs in the middle of the room, excellent shower stalls and fireplace, was one of the best rooms i have ever stayed in ever. EVER.
The only con was the price. -

An easy walk up from the ferry landing, easy to walk to shops and restaurants in Friday Harbor. But the restaurant here is great, and happy hour is especially great. The hotel staff were welcoming and friendly. Room amenities include fireplaces, jetted tubs, board games, books. and DVDs for guests. The continental breakfast included in the room rate was delicious and had a nice variety.
