  Winnipeg's first certified green salon, this place is friendly and fun.  The staff here understands the what great customer service is and they are genuinely happy to do their job... and it shows.
  
  Love going to this place, great atmosphere, great stylist, and it's green.

  The staff are friendly and skillful but I chose this salon specifically because it's certified green.
  
  I asked to buy sulfate free shampoo and conditioner as I assumed a green salon would have sulfate free products. They directed me to their Essensity line, I confirmed with them that they were sulfate free and was assured they were.
  
  I didn't read the ingredients as I expected the staff to be well versed in green products but when I finally did read them the second ingredient on the shampoo is Sodium Lauryl Sulfate and the conditioner contains 2 kinds of methosulfates.
  
  I find this upsetting because 1. I had gotten my hair colored and sulfates strip hair color very quickly (no wonder I had to get my color touched up so soon)and 2. I am committed to keeping my household as green as possible and putting sulfates into our water system is not exactly in line with that.
  
  I feel like being certified green isn't something that the salon or it's staff are that committed to but rather just something they claim to get business from people like me.

  As the owner of Freshair Boutique, I would like to say that I am very pleased that you had great service when you came into the shop.  That is very important to me.
  I would like to apologize to you for selling you something that left you with a negative view of our salon.  I have been in the hair industry for over ten years and after the birth of my children, I too, have taken it upon myself to try to be more aware of the things I put on my body, the things I consume, and the way I spend my time and money.
  I went to great lengths to certify my salon as a 'green' business because I wanted to make sure that the way we operate on a day-to-day basis would do the least damage to the earth and to my staff and clients.  We complied with the 'certified green business' audit by making sure all our appliances were HE.  We only clean with Norwex products, we recycle anything that we can and we even had our carbon footprint calculated to make sure that we aren't running a business that is harmful to the earth.  
  In regards to the products we carry, I am still learning.  I do believe that there are products out there that say they are 'green' but are actually full of harmful ingredients.  We try our very best to go over the products that we carry and are aware that there are many types of products that pass as 'green'.  We consult some of our clients who are well versed in this area and our suppliers, to help us with identifying ingredients in the products.  Your post has made me realize that we cannot only depend on others but we must learn about the products ourselves.
  It's difficult to find a product that's not only kind to the earth and your body, but also performs in a way similar to conventional products that are heavy laden with chemicals.  We want you to know that we will be talking to our suppliers about this issue.  We are always on the search for products that meet our needs and beliefs.
  In short, we are not just trying to get people like you to give us their business, we want to make a change and we want to be different.  It is because of people like you, who are comfortable enough to come to us with your concerns that we can continue to be a place where people can come to for information and inquiries.
  We would love to hear from you again and if possible maybe give us some of your recommendations.  Thanks again for posting your review!
