I've been to several Sushi places in Vancouver since this review and it is still my favorite. Great, casual, clean atmosphere with impeccable service.

Three words: Spicy. Tuna. Combo.
Maybe I'm easily impressed, but I crave this sushi like no other.. everything else I've tried here is excellent and the service is outstanding.
My only complaint... why does this place have the most random hours??? Not open until 4 pm on Sundays?! What kind of "Take Out" place is closed all the time? -

Now I can see the fuss! Normally when you order their signature special roll, we're in the $12.95 & up, but their Red Dynamite was just $10. and delicious too.
Basically a dynamite roll w/ spicy tuna on top, though not drizzled w/ sauce, it was tasty & a bit more kick than usual. Nice to have freshly chopped green onion w/ a slice of lemon on the side.
Honestly, it was so good, i dont even know whether it was 6 pc or 8! think it was the latter...
In a strange, quieter section along Expo Boulevard, just a one-way so better slow down to find street parking. High ceilings, average decor but simple and clean.
White ginger too ;) instead of pink.... -

Very fresh, well sized sashimi and well made rolls. Some of the rolls had a little too much japanese mayo for our liking, but they were still good.
Tiny place, maybe 8-10 tables (they use outdoor patio furniture for tables). The service was friendly and efficient, they were great with the tea refills.
Great prices and feel for the neighborhood, we will be back. -
Review from Taylor K.
We stopped in here before the hockey game. The place wasn't too busy but we did notice only one server on the floor which isn't unusual since the place is fairly small and it was a weeknight.
We ordered assorted sashimi, seafood udon, spicy salmon roll, gomae, ebi sunomono and a miso soup.
The food got to the table fairly quickly and the sushi chunks were of good size. And they tasted really fresh. My sister liked her udon as well. The soup broth had a good taste to it.
Only complaint I have is the service. I think the server must have been fairly new because we didn't get our tea until we got our food and I asked her about my miso which didn't arrive with my food, and I never got it. We had to remind her to take it off the bill at the end. She seemed struggle little bit with the other customers as well. Other than that, the service was good. They greeted us when we arrived and when we left and the food was good as well.
Overall, I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who is in the area. -

Maybe they had an off day when I went here but my meal was uneventful. The salmon and tuna roll were off. They weren't fresh, tasted like its been frozen and defrosted. They had 3 guys making sushi, 1 guy in the kitchen and 1 hostess/server who needs help. I saw a few groups of people leave because she couldn't clear the tables fast enough. Maybe those 3 guys should help her, they can fully see what's happening.

Having Fresh minutes from home (walking!!!) is a great! First time I was there, I ordered the unagi don and let me tell u - I was hooked. Being a condiment addict, I must note there was no shortage of that awesome unagi sauce! Nothing crappier (in my books) than dry rice. Oh and the size of the sashimi is unreal - they are Huuuge! Lastly, they rock brown rice here, only draw back is the surcharge that comes with it! At the end of the day there's nothing mind blasting about the menu - but that won't prevent me from coming back, over and over again!

Wonderful place for having lunch or getting a quick take-out. The food is always fresh and well presented, the service is stellar and their sushy to die for. One of our favorite places on too-lazy-to-cook days.

My favourite sushi place in Vancouver. Try these: spicy tuna & salmon sashimi, Alaska roll and red roll.

I really, really like this place.
First off, the service is great. Every time we've been here we were helped pretty much right away. It's not a very big place and the server is very attentive and helpful. We always get some tea before our food arrives as well.
The food itself is great. I'm very particular when it comes to sushi and I usually have something to complain, but not here. There's just enough rice to complement the roll (a lot of places have too much rice on their rolls) and the ingredients are always fresh and therefore very tasty. A good indication of the quality of the sushi is the avocado, and it's been green and soft every single time, not a brown spot in sight. The size of the sushi pieces are perfect as well, not too big (another common theme with sushi restaurants).
One of the best things about this place is the price of the dishes. We just had dinner for two for $19 including taxes. I'm sorry, but you can't beat that anywhere even close to Robson St.
So all in all considering the food, service and prices are great, this place is truly awesome. The only two reasons for not giving 5 stars here is that the location is okay, but not great (busy road). It is however conveniently close to my house. The other is that the ambiance is just okay, but considering it's more of a lunch/take-out place this is understandable. The place is clean and tastefully decorated though.
So just go here for lunch or dinner and you will not be disappointed, I promise. -

Top three reasons I love this place:
1. The sashimi is melt in your mouth delicious.
2. The service is adorably polite.
3. The presentation of your food is always neat and tidy (ie. SO EAT-ABLE)!
I work close-by and often go here. It gets busy during the lunch hour, so you may want to call in ahead of time. I guess waiting for the food is the only downside if you're pressed for time and unprepared; but hey, it's well worth the wait!
They have a wonderful selection of sashimi and everything I've had there is close-your-eyes-moan-and-groan-delicious!
And a big plus for me, they're never reluctant to customize orders. And an even bigger big plus is that they remember you when you come back! So, when I come in for my Alaska roll, she knows "no sauce".
Definitely one of the best kept secrets in Vancouver! -
Review from Alice A.
I'm debating in my head:
It would be four stars for the ultra relaxing atmosphere although its location isn't ideal.
On top of that, the sushi presentation and service is warm, but the sushi itself isn't out of this world for me.
The BC roll somehow didn't gel with me, there was something off about its taste.
Although each nigiri had a generous slice of sashimi on it, I didn't find the salmon, tuna nor prawn outstanding. Was the cooked prawn soaked in lemon...?
So Fresh Take-Out Japanese winds up being a 3 stars place for me.
I might return if I'm desperate for a quick sushi lunch between work. But not anytime soon, I don't think.
The search continues... -

I live down the block from these guys and they're the only place I'll get sushi from.
- The staff is always friendly.
- Prices are reasonable
- Combos are original and their party platters are very well designed (great for a movie night!)
- The sushi and sashimi taste GREAT!
They'll even serve you a nice cup of green tea while you wait for your pickup order.
Highly recommended. -

Seeing these reviews on yelp.... I could not believe how I could have a bad meal from Fresh.....
RIGHT!
I was given the responsibility of ordering sushi for a group of 4. I had set my mind on getting it from somewhere else, but this place just just sparked in my head! I found their menu online and saw the many combos and selections that Fresh had to offer.
I saw the assorted combo which seemed to include a bit of everything including sushi, sashimi, rolls - the whole nine yard. For $40, the combo came with 56 pieces.
We walked in on an early saturday night to pick up our food and the restaurant only had one table eating. The waitress was very courteous and offered us green tea while we waited for our food to go.
I have to say that the fish was fresh, and the pieces were well portioned. Tuna and salmon was fresh and soft, and there was a lot of variety... can't say that everything was everyone's cup of tea... like fish roe, octopus, clam, calamari.. but it definitely gave us a chance to try something new.
Will definitely check this place out again... I think it's still a hidden gem that not too many people know about. -

Unfortunate location, but boy its nice to always find a seat in this place. Great food, very very friendly staff. I mean what more can you ask for, food served with a smile, well portioned, great prices, and so fresh. I highly recommend this place, hopefully they continue to keep up the high standards for those prices, this place will become popular very quickly if they continue doing what they are doing, despite its location, which isnt really that bad either.

Fresh sushi, affordable prices, uber convenient.
I currently live at The Max, so having a sushi place located in the commercial portion of the building is advantageous.
While, the restaurant itself is a little on the small size... phoning a lunch order in ahead of time to minimize the overall wait. -

I tried it because I hadn't tried it and it is the closest sushi place from my place (hard to get closer actually).
I was not disappointed. It was a take out, salmon and sushi combo. The restaurant looked a bit busy (not a bad sign). Next time I'll be sure to call ahead to order even if the wait was not that long.Listed in: Reviewed

This is a place I will be visiting again and with different friends each time as I gotta spread the word. Greetings come with smiles and so does the service. The tea is always full and the food is definitely fresh.
A little fireplace cozies up this small space and the size of this joint allows you to see the beauty of downtown from every angle...Well, almost ;)
No bento boxes but still an array of affordable and dee-lish dishes to choose from.
Get fresh, yo. -

Really great, fresh sushi and very good prices compared to a lot of other Yaletown sushi restaurants. I was just grabbing some take-out, but it was ready quickly and they threw in a free bowl of miso soup.
My only complaint was that the rolls were so big! One end-piece of my red-eye dynamite roll was almost the same size as my fist. But it was delicious, even if each piece took two or three bites.
The location is a bit unfortunate, so hopefully they'll get more traffic because I want this place to stick around. -

I was starving last night and had only an hour to pick up something quick, fast and tasty before heading to a hockey game. My fiance suggested Fresh Japanese Take Out a couple of blocks away.
I looked it up on Yelp first as most Californians do but only saw 2 reviews. I guess Yelp isn't as prominent in Canada as it is in the states but I was starving and decided to take a chance. I called in and the waitress gave me a quick rundown of the menu. I ordered the the Maki Platter for 2 people. There were 42 pieces which consisted of California Roll, Dynamite Roll, Alaska Roll, Spicy Tuna Roll, B.C. Roll, Tuna and Salmon Maki. Excellent.... Spicy Tuna is my favorite!
Pretty darn delicious, and yes very FRESH and very fast. Walked in to pick up my food 15 minutes later and it was ready. Staff was very friendly. I'll be adding this place to my speed dial. -

First yelp review-- I know, I know... I've been wanting to try this place since they opened last year, but seemed to keep holding it off. I live right around the corner from it so no more excuses! I ordered a few things to take out and sample-- not knowing what to expect. Got there on time (15 min.), and as I waited she offered me a cup of green tea. Nice touch!
Everything was good and very fresh. The Dragon roll was in the spirit of the flavours for a special roll. Negitoro roll was simple, but nicely done as the green onion was chopped very fine and mixed well with the tuna. Miso soup was about average.
I see they have yellowtail (hamachi) on the menu, and the assorted tempura looked great as she brought it out to some diners while I was waiting. I'll definitely add this to my regular take out and plan to try a lot of other items on the menu. -

I live right around the corner, so Fresh has always been an easy place for me to get some quick sushi. Over the last half year or so, they have redecorated the place a bit, so I'd say it's nicer looking the average self-labeled 'take-out' place. And, most importantly, the sushi is good, fresh, and decently priced! Plus, I have to say the staff have always been super friendly. I've accidentally rolled in right before closing time twice now, and both times they've stayed open later just because of me and a friend! While Fresh is not the best place for fancy sushi or to impress some out-of-towners, it's great if you're in the need for good, affordable sushi!

Good sushi (their spicy sauce is super tasty) and a good price point. A very cute little place in an area without many sushi joints - would definitely recommend it.

this is maybe the best sushi i have every had, bar my own home attempts ;)
we were introduced to fresh by a friend who lives in the area, who visits once a week. the staff are lovely and friendly, the shushi is unbelievable, and reasonably priced, i mean i got happily full for under $15.
and they do a great take-out service, well presented, and ready nice and quick.
you must go if you are in the area!
