BAM!
Where have you been all my life Fresh! I have passed by this store maybe thousand times, I can't believe I was missing out on all this goodness...
This is more cultural, hand-made, loved, cared, beautifully concept-ed, well laid out, wonderfully serviced and refreshingly fresh when compared to your daily, msg dosed, mass produced junk chips and salsa.
The store offers lots of latin goodness, both preserved, fresh foods and hardware. Their chips are incredible, salsa is the best in the city in this category, hot sauce selection is vast which I am big freak about. Care for an old-fashioned bottle of Mexican coca-cola, custom made piñata or a lollipop with a real scorpion buried in... they have that too.
Best for last, they sell packaged Chicharrones, fried pork fat with skin attached. Crispy, porky, lighter than air, salty, one of the best snacks you have ever, ever, ever had... I wanna dance like a mad man right now with the treasure I found.
I am going to be back again and again and again and again....... forever and ever... -

Far and away the best tortilla chips I've ever had. You're probably thinking you have experienced the full range of tortilla chip-ness in the universe, but these are so much better than everything else (yes, including Que Pasa) that they almost aren't even the same thing.
Also excellent: the fresh salsas and ESPECIALLY the guacamole. I used to insist on making my own but theirs is better. -

Fresh IS best! Spicy salsa, intense guacamole, fresh tortillas, all gluten free!
How is it that I've been buying their products for years without actually knowing that they have a store in Kits? I've walked past Fresh is Best so many times over the years, but it wasn't until recently that I actually went in.
Though a few of their items are a bit more in terms of price, their fresh salsa and tortillas truly are some of the best I've had. And really, the prices are almost the same as in a grocery store deli, so why not buy from the source rather than -ahem-cough- Safeway? Besides, supporting a local business that sources most of its ingredients from BC makes me all warm and fuzzy inside. -

For two years I have walked by this shop and have obviously never noticed it because today when I went in, I thought it was brand new! How have I missed out on samples of tortillas and salsa, guacamole, hummus, tzatziki, sauces and drink mixes?
They mentioned that they keep their salsas on the "light spice" side and a sample of medium salsa proved it. It was my ideal amount of spice - but keep in mind, I'm a wussy spice girl.
The guacamole had a decent bite to it, but it was overpowered by an intense citrus taste. I get not wanting it brown, but this was a big thumbs down for me.
I'd say prices were comparable to deli selections at grocery stores with lots of their products from BC and a decent proportion of organic options. Definitely go back for salsa, but I'd eat an unripe avocado before buying their citri-guac. -

I think it is awesome that there is a store dedicated to selling chips and dip! I love "Fresh is Best" chips... crispy, light, & perfectly salted. The tri-colour chips are very festive! The salsa is great and it feels very "fresh!" Natural ingredients make a huge difference. The salsa is not spicy so if you like a kick of spice/heat in your salsa, you might need to add some hot sauce (which Fresh is Best sells too). The guacamole is too strong on the citrus or vinegar flavor... it overpowers the delicate avocado and ruins it for me (and I just saw another Yelp reviewer had the same complaint). I gave the guac a second chance (in hopes I had a bad batch) and had the same experience. I would not recommend the guac. The seven layer dip is great. In this case, the guac's citrus flavor is nicely balanced with refried beans and sour cream, among other ingredients.
Fresh is Best also sells other stuff in the shops asides from chips & dips, including Mexican cheeses and chorizo, lots of different hot sauces, serving plates, margarita glasses, etc. Some of these items make nice gifts. In terms of prices, Fresh is Best prices are more expensive than your grocery store chips and salsa. However, I am willing to pay more for a quality products made with fresh ingredients. -

Chips are ohhhhh so yummy! Staff are quite nice and they leave you alone to pick your snacks and stuff.
It's too bad it's so far or else I would go there all the time. However, they are starting to sell their salsa and chips at Safeway so I have been buying their products still :) -

I feel kinda funny writing a review for a company that is based in Kamloops and only has one storefront. This storefront is three blocks from my apartment though, so I believe that this justifies my literary efforts.
Fresh is Best is based on a fairly simple concept: they sell fresh tortilla chips, and Mexican condiments/dips to accompany these chips. The key to the success of this culinary venture - like so many operations involving food - is that they create *few* products *very* well. This is much preferred to creating numerous products in a mediocre manner. The chips and dips that Fresh is Best create go extremely well together too, which is a good thing because the company's name is superlame.
While I have not tried every dip that the company produces, I have indeed depended on a fair number of these (along with a few wobbly pops and a bag of their chips) for late-night dinners. My favourite dip that Fresh is Best concocts is the guacamole. Yes, I know that only suckers buy guacamole because it is ridiculously easy to make, but we all have those evenings when we just don't want to venture out for avocodoes, cilantro and limes. FIB's guac contains intense citrus, chunky fresh tomato, and hair-curling onion/garlic domination. I really appreciate how they don't puree the ingredients. The hand-chopped salsa is also great, as there is an emphasis placed upon cilantro and jalapenos.
The only other product I have tried is the tropical fruit salsa (which I found to resemble a chutney rather than a salsa for chip-dipping), but FIB also produces a hummus, tzatziki, garlic-spinach dip and a smoky black bean dip.
I have saved the best for last: the chips! These tri-coloured wafers comprised of artery-clogging fried cornmeal are a perfect balance of salt, crunch and density. They are a tiny bit thicker than your average tortilla chip, which encourages rigorous dipping. These chips also hold the salt very well, perhaps due to this abnormal density.
In Guac We Trust!
