I went to a gala on Saturday night for a Canadian Charity called Watercan, so I went to the Aveda Institute to get my hair done for the event. I asked for a "down" do, as opposed to an up-do, and the stylist gave me the suggestion once done, of wearing my hair as-is, or heading across the street to Claires or French Twist to put a flower in my hair, or a fancy headband.
So... away I went. I am not too familiar with the layout of TD and Bankers Hall, but I stumbled across French Twist first, and I was pleasantly surprised by the selection they had!
What I loved about this store, was that it was that it is a bit of a higher end store, so there selection was available for a higher end event.
I agree with Sapna's comment about it being congested in there. They would be better served with a bigger space. However, I was fortunate that I was walking in there with a clear idea of what I was looking for, and the colors I was open to, so for me, it was a pleasant experience having a number of choices within my parameters, of different qualities and price ranges.

I've been in and out of the French Twist for years, but the one thing that has never changed is its sheer crowdedness. They've got some pretty good deals and carry some pretty unique hair products and accessories. For example, they have a ton of tiaras, and also really beautiful (though expensive) hair accessories. They also sell a variety of high end hair products like shampoos and conditioners and styling.
I agree with Sapna G, though, that the store is a little distracting. There can be a lot of hunting to find the right thing. In addition to the hair products and nail polish, they also sell hand bags. I'm a ll for diversifying, but it does get a little hectic. I do like to peek in from time to time, but I find it a little overwhelming. -

I happened to be walking by this store today at lunch and I couldn't resist the urge to have a look around.
They've got everything hair-related, from hair scarves to hair brushes. They also have some beauty supply stuff like luxury pocket mirrors, nail art and business card cases.
This store has some super cute stuff in it, but it's just super congested. It's overwhelming because the store is so tiny, but they have so much stuff in it! I didn't know where to look first and I was easily distracted by all the bling in every which direction.
The fact that I left this store without a single bag in hand proves that I found it more overwhelming than I would have liked. The stuff is nice, but they just need more room to show it off!

History
Established in 1990
French twist began years ago on 17th avenue and in those days it specialized in quality ribbons and hair accessories. French twist made custom bows and barrettes from the many spools of beautiful ribbons in the shop. It was purchased and moved to Bankers Hall in 1990 where it resides today, where a new custom built store was created to suit. It had a large 12 foot long wall of spools of ribbons, and some shelves of hair accessories made in France, and designer selections. Four years later in 1994, the present owner was making hair sticks and custom barrettes for the shop from Bronze and found out it was for sale. It was a perfect match. Now after 17+ years of growth, and 21 years in Bankers Hall, French Twist has blossomed into Calgary's premier Women's Quality Accessory boutique, and the only Hair accessory specialty store in Western Canada. A tiny store of only 220 sqrFt, yes! yet wonderfully displayed,The space is maximized by Customer demands for more and more specific items!
