Freddy's stores in general are pretty great.  From soup to (hardware and edible) nuts they got it all.  Open pretty early and late (7 to 11 last I checked)

Of the two in Bellingham this is the older, and in my opinion somewhat lesser, store. It is fine but I like the layout and selection a bit more at the other one.

One point in this ones favor the parking lot:  Being closer to Canada and more visible from the freeway, the other location becomes (as another Yelper stated) "a near hostage situation" parking wise.  During holidays, U.S. and Canadian, shop at this Lakeway location!

One minor complaint:  The gas station, the arrangement is very poor when busy.  It ain't great at the other location, but this one is painful.

Fred Meyer is a great place to shop at if you are looking for a bit of everything with out needing anything too specialized. Need pencils, a college dorm chair, a warm sweater, a best seller book, some frozen peas, and a new blockbuster DVD all in one trip? Look no further. But for those needing speciality supplies, you will best be served looking beyond these walls.

What I like best about shopping at Fred Meyer:

    1) The wine selection is pretty descent!
    2) The organic food and product areas are rather substantive.
    3) Open early and late.

They sure are making an effort. No, they do not sell more localally owned items or organic stuff, but mostly generic goods. However, they are pulling the "Walmart" factor and buying in to those Organic produce anyway...and not all teh good kind either. Nevertheless, its pretty nice. Its HUGE, but not quite superdome like Costco. Most of their products are priced quite reasonably. Most. The service is most efficient. I never buy clothes there, though. Just the  food. So I'll be honest and say I have little knowledge of the clothing other than it doesnt appeal to me in my respects. I dont ever buy their brand name in foods, so I wouldn't know of that. But it is quite mega, meaning if I want to find a certain item brand that I want, it most liley has it. Its kinda like Safeway but double the size and minus the appeal. All in all, not too bad, actaully not bad at all! But not "THE BEST".

OOohh! My new favorite store in Bellingham! They have a sizeable natural foods section and I can find the yogurt brands that I like (Nancy's, Fage, Brown Cow).  They also have a good produce section--I found chanterelle mushrooms there last time and a decent cheese selection for a big chain store.

Not to forget, the department store section is worth a browse.

    Fred Meyers has everything!

This is about the standard Fred Meyer.

There are departments for everything under the sun - from sporting goods, to shoes, to electronics, to garden, and to home furniture, it's all here.

It's a good one-stop shop, to put it that way.

The store's clean, and the prices are alright.

I would check out the return policy though - it's a little funky.

There is nothing particularly wrong with this store, but I'm REALLY bothered that the reason it has such high reviews is because of all the Canadians who have left reviews here. Not that there is anything wrong with that, except that they are basing their love for the store and its prices on a comparison to their socialist country where everything costs so much more. This isn't Canada, so Fred Meyer should stand on its own merit and not be touted just for being cheaper than a neighboring country.

I like this store very much and I do most of my shopping here. I've always shopped primarily at Walmart because of the prices, but when I moved here a couple years ago, the only decent grocery Walmart is about 30 minutes away, so I shopped locally instead. Initially I went to every store based on the sales and coupons, but ultimately found myself buying almost everything at Fred Meyer, in part because it's the best store nearest my house. They have a great selection and good prices. On two separate occasions recently, I had planned a trip to Walmart to stock up on a few things, and ended up going to Fred Meyer instead. On both occasions, the things I went for actually ended up being cheaper at Freddy's. It's really the sales that make it a good value. If what you want is not on sale, the prices mostly range from just okay to high.

The biggest downside of this store is the parking lot. It is tiny and always full. The store itself is also very busy and full. This might be a sign of good business, but it doesn't make for a fun shopping experience. Last night I went in at 10:30 to avoid the crowds, and still every open lane was full.

For the record, I have only ever shopped in the grocery department. The ONE time I shopped in another department, it was a bad experience, but I'm not basing my review on it.

So all in all, I would say this is a good store. The prices are good, but nothing to write home about (unless you're from Canada). The prices aren't SO good that they are worth venturing into such a busy store. I have no choice because I'm poor, and I can't afford to be driving all around to other stores. Once you wade through the crowds of people, you'll probably find what you're looking for here (except a parking space) and at a decent price.

    Happy hunting. :)

This is the only Fred Meyer I've ever bought anything from. Visiting my sister in Bellingham we popped in here to shop for some groceries for dinner. What an enormous store! From the looks of it the prices are pretty competitive and the selection is quite varied. Nothing wrong with options, eh? There aren't any FM's near my home but if I lived closed to one, I'd probably do some shopping there too.

Can you believe that until this past weekend I had never been in a Fred Meyer before?  It sort of reminded me of Superstore but nicer colours AND a booze aisle!

My friend and I were wandering the beer aisle, as she needed some beer for the boyfriend that we don't have here in Canada, and low and behold Guinness.  I LOVE my Guinness and they had an 8 pack for the price of a 4 pack here in Canada!  We are getting ripped off by the man here, let me tell you!  Anyway, I will be back just for the booze.  I heart you Fred!

We're frequent border crossers and one of our favourite places is Fred Meyer. Every month we like to go and replenish our mexican goods that we either can't get here or it's way cheaper. Hominy beans! Cheap refried beans! Corn tortillas so cheap that you wonder how they can even charge outrageous prices here in Vancouver when you can actually find some.

Also, cheese. Tillamook pepperjack cheese. Mmmm. Cheap. And good.

I went to Fred Meyer's on a mission - a mission to buy as much wheat free flour as possible. I headed straight to the baking aisle and was so disappointed to only find corn flour. Determined, I wandered, and then remembered.... health food section just past the bakery!!

Then I discovered the gluten-free section. Happy as a pig in mud I picked up about 8 different "alternative" flours, in addition to quinoa pastas, gluten-free vegan cookies, and wheat free cereals (even some which are clearly for children, but I'm very excited about my Leapin' Leemers cereal!!)

This place is also great for your other staples... meat, dairy, miscellanous. I'm from Canada so I don't often get to purchase alcohol because I go on day trips (damn the outrageous duty on booze). Aside from groceries I am pretty sure you can find just about anything in this store.

I will be a frequent driver for my gluten free needs.

The cost of food in Bellingham can be high if you're not a frugal shopper. Fred Meyer on the other hand often has some of the best prices in town. I've compared with the cost-cutter across the street and FM had them beat on more then half of the items I looked at. They are also more than a grocery store in that they have everything you need. From Kitchen appliances, kids toys, a garden center, clothing, shoes, and a full grocery store with deli, coffee shop, and butcher, Fred Meyer is often 1-stop shopping for me. They have coupons regularly, and plenty of self-scan registers so waiting in line is never really an issue.

My favorite part of Fred Meyer is the natural, organic foods section which has the best deal on Nancy's yogurt. They also have grind-your-own peanut & almond butter machines as well as a large bulk-bin section of dried fruits, different nuts and flours, and beans.

Finally, the parking lot is large so parking is never a problem and several bus lines service the area. I wish they were open later, they do close at 11pm, but then again that's certainly a reasonable hour to close up shop for the night. Thanks Fred Meyer!

"Lost in Love" Review for Fred Meyer Lakeway.
Go ahead and call me crazy for any one of these reasons about this Fred Meyer store...

ME goin' crazy for all their Clearance Shelf dollar items or buy-1-get-1 free bargains, goin' crazy in search for hot-off-the-shelf new items nobody has yet,  crazy for getting lost in love in Fred Meyer's for like 3 or 4 hours, crazy for knowing who's on shift or when the bakery puts out hot french bread or hot chicken and crazy for always dreaming of getting rockstar parking (only 2 available spots in the whole dang kingdom-- and i get them every single time with my "Secret" positive thinking!).

Fred Meyer's has EVERYTHING here in one convenient place!  They have the best gas prices in town and Discount Tires right next door.  Beauty Salon, Dept. of Licensing, Banking, Starbucks... beauty supplies, shoes & clothes, jewelry, pharmacy, floral and garden, sporting, hardware, housewares up the ying-yang, furniture, toys, pet supplies, books, office supplies, food galore, organics, bulk items, wine, meat, produce, bakery, deli, lottery,  etc.  And they'll even help you take out your shopping carts to your car if you have more than one shopping cart!  :)

Just don't know why, but when i drive by, this place just calls out my name and it will call your name, too!

"What's on YOUR list today?  You'll find it at Fred Meyer's!"

It's funny - in Canada, I never shop at discount stores. But then again, America's discount kingdoms, like Fred Meyer and Target, have it all over our sad little Zellers. I didn't wander over to the grocery aisles on this visit, but the housewares and toys called my name, especially a great big electric griddle for $20. We'll definitely be back on our next cross-border shopping trip.

I just had to write a review for the Fred Meyer store because of the clam chowder they serve in the deli department. I don't know where they get it but it's great! 5 stars. Lots of clams, not too much potato like all the others. This is New England style clam chowder like Progresso used to be years ago. Odd to find great clam chowder inside a department store but I don't care. I have a bowl at least once a week here!

I do most of my shopping for food here! Great prices, pretty good deals threw out the week. Its a clean store. The produce always looks good. There's a great natural food selection! you can buy soy milk in bulk ! Kids can get a sample of fresh deli items and a free cookie from the bakery! They also have pretty good pet food and items for great prices! Out of the grocery store here Fred Myer is the best around here.

I was very pleased to discover that Fred Meyer makes returns so easy. I did not have my receipt, but they can look up and confirm your purchase based on your credit card number or customer card. Easy as could be!
