A large classier Chinese restaurant on Fraser with a wide variety of Chinese dishes that are consistently better than the average - perfect for a dinner banquet or dim sum with a big group of friends.
Our family of two tables (24) booked a month in advanced for Chinese New Year and just made the cut. With 500+ people seated for dinner on Sunday (ya, we counted tables), Fraser Court was a full house with tight tables and the staff was able to deliver on the quality of food and decent service, very successfully. I was more than satisfied by every dish I had. Honestly, everything was relatively decent. Here`s some notables:
- Jellyfish, pekking duck, lobster with cream sauce - guaranteed win.
- Lettuce wraps - Highly recommend!
Definitely stands out for other Chinese restaurants. They had fresh, crispy lettuce and the filling was hearty, chucky and absolutely delicious.
- Chopped fish and broccoli - Highly recommend!
Fish was melt-in-your-mouth satisfying and the broccoli was so fresh, perfectly bleached, lightly seasoned and with a touch of oil - seriously, best broccoli ever! I swear I ate it all to myself.
- Chicken. Now, usually I never eat the chicken because it's usually dry at Chinese restaurants, but this chicken was very tender and moist.
- Soft baked tapioca pudding - highly recommend!
Would I recommend it? Most definitely.
Will I be back? You bet, it's a family staple.
What's more:
- Lots of free parking - in lot and along the residential streets around the corner
- HD TVs are located around the room. There is also a projector screen
- Washrooms: 7/10 on cleanliness, a wee better than the norm - pun intended ;P
- I can totally relate to Amy T and Larry L.'s experience here -

This place is huge, and it actually does get filled up. Nice to see an old school place like this still doing business as usual - serving hot steamy greasy dimsum and having a good time doing it! Great service, run of the mill dimsum, prices as expected.
I would not suggest the sui long bai tho.... the skin was all broken so no soup inside =( -

Surprisingly good dim sum.
Looks ghetto from the outside, but inside is a big space, clean and well ventilated. I was a little chilly and wished they blasted the heat more, but I rather be too cold than too hot. The food was great. The har gao (shrimp dumplings) were plump and the dumpling skin wasn't too thick. The halibut was fried and was crispy, but moist inside. The bitter melon with pork and noodles were different and the noodles had a nice texture. Overall- good job! -

House special chow mein big scallops and crispy noodles dim sum served fast and furious.
We've never had to wait long to get a table and the food has always been consistent. The service is good and parking is always available.
I haven't had dinner here, but after readong Billy L's review, I think they've gotten a bit better since then.
There are alot of TV screens to watch, but for me, it's the people watching I enjoy. Or the people eating food that they enjoy. or whatever. Overall, it's a good dimsum experience and I don't miss the dimsum carts here at all. -

What I like about this place? Watching hockey highlights while eating dim sum! The real Chinese/Canadian brunch.
Average dim sum place. Looks nice, clean, and pretty cheap. 40ish bucks for 5 people or maybe it was because of the Chinese new years.
They have this thing called dai bao (big bun) that's on special before 11am for $1 each, or $3 afterwards. They are massive buns with mixed meats and some veggies inside. I found pork, mushrooms, ginger, quail egg, and shrimp so far. I don't think you can find this on the menu; it's just an item offered to regulars. I get the sense that it was made from leftovers of yesterday's dim sum, but funny thing is that it's actually not that bad.
Oh btw, if you got a friend that's allergic to shrimp (like my friend is), don't take him/her to dim sum lol 75% of the stuff has shrimp in it!Listed in: GAME TIME BABY!!!!, Dim Sum Girl, You really wok…

Convenient private parking lot nearby is a winner. However, it did concern me that we rolled in at 11AM on a Saturday morning and there was no waiting time. Maybe this place sucks? Or this place is too far off the Victoria 'dim sum' strip?
I been here once for dim sum and once for dinner - I never bothered reviewing it. It was just so... forgettable. But then again, that isn't necessary a bad thing. Based on the other reviews and other things I've heard about dinner time here - it's quite a dice roll.
Well - the 2nd floor dining room is pretty large and service is pretty damned quick. It's tick sheet style and the prices are pretty decent (I think the 7 of us spent like $20 each tax in - and we far over-ordered and we took the remainder in doggy bags). For people with normal appetites, I think $10-$15 would be more than enough.
Overall, the dim sum was decent and nothing really wowed or disappointed. The only bad thing was the radish cake - really mushy and undercooked. Sizes and quality comparable to your standard Vancouver dim sum joint.
Seriously - it's very middle of the road - like Carlito Brigante said: "Maybe I don't give a shit! Maybe I don't remember the last time I blew my nose either. "Listed in: East Van Eateries, Yum Cha

I've been here a few times, most recently for my father's birthday dinner. We had 3 tables with a set menu of 10 courses.
I thought the food was very good. Among the 10 dishes we had the cold appetizer plate, fish maw soup, seafood with gai lan, two fish dishes, fried rice and yee mein.
The two fish dishes were a combo set similar to having Peking duck and lettuce wrap together. The remaining parts of the fish that wasn't used in the first dish was used to make the second dish. Unfortunately, while the second dish was apparently supposed to be a specialty of the restaurant, it didn't go over too well with our party as there was barely any meat left to eat. Most of the fish had been used already for the first dish, which was disappointing since I thought the second dish was very tasty and I wanted more.
The restaurant was very accommodating and helpful with our party: we brought two cakes for dessert (in addition to the birthday buns that were part of the set meal), and the restaurant staff were more than willing to store the cakes for us until it was time for dessert.
The service was fairly decent and quick, and included a couple of plate changes. There was a bit of wait in between some of the dishes and the start of the meal, but it picked up about halfway through.
One big strike against the restaurant: because this restaurant has the capability to hold large parties, there's usually big events happening in the back half of the restaurant, separated from the rest of the room with wall dividers. These large parties are usually pretty loud, and we've had the misfortune of dining here during a Chinese opera performance as well as some awful karaoke. -

We had a reception here during the lunch hour and perhaps that's why the food sucked. We had a feast like the ones you have for dinner. Roasted pork, jelly fish, crab, fish, fried rice, veg dishes, bake tapioca pudding. They would have had one star but their tapioca pudding was pretty stellar especially with the top crust.
Perhaps their dim sum is better, I'll never know cause I'll probably will never return. Like the others have said, there are plenty of parking spaces. I would trade in the ease of parking my car for better food any day. -

I made dinner reservations for 7 people for the evening of 1 July 2011 at 5:30pm. The person who answered my call took down all my information and confirmed the reservation. Reservation was made on 30 June 2011.
Were we surprised when we arrived at the restaurant, only to be told that I must have made a mistake because the entire restaurant was booked for a wedding. I complained and there must have been a notation on the reservation book, and probably erased afterwards, because they admitted to making a mistake and gave me a 10% off for my next visit.
This is the second time this has happened to me at this restaurant. Friday's dinner was a special occasion and to be sent away at the last minute to find another restaurant...well, let's just say that we were not pleased.
On 4 July 2011, I called the manager, Wilson Hong, to complain. Was I shocked when he accused me of NOT "retrieving my voice messages". He claimed that they contacted me and left me "a couple of voice messages". Interesting since I left them my cell phone number and there were NO missed calls or voice messages!
On a different note, I checked the Health Inspection Report on this restaurant and needless to say, we will be going somewhere else. -

I've been to many Chinese restaurants, and I can only say the food experience is only about average. So, my relative's birthday was today, and here's my review.
Squab -nicely roasted, but it lacked flavour.
Shark fin soup - shark fins was on the hard side.
Lobsters - fresh, but it lacked meat, almost flavourless, except for the garlic,
Fried rice - just average stuff.
Shrimp with vegetables - just average stuff.
Chinese vegetables, shitake mushrooms, and fish - just average stuff.
Hot and spicy fried pork - way too hot and spicy, and it seemed to be fried too long.
Roast chicken - nice flavours, but presentation lacking.
Shrimp with tofu - great execution with good flavours and presentation
Steamed tilapia fish - nicely steamed, just perfect.
Fried shrimp balls - average stuff but nicely fried,
Yin yang rice - like all other restaurants, it's hard to make receive bad yin yang rice dishes.
Shrimp, celery, and mushrooms - boring dish overall, so it's an average for me.
Stirred fried noodles - typically they're salty side, but this time it's bland.
Desert were two items. First was some sort of sweet soup, but it was way too sweet and I didn't finish all of it. Second was some sweet mini buns which wasn't too sweet, and they were just perfect and tasty.
I've had dim sum at this restaurant three times. I have to say their dim sum dishes are much better than their dinner dishes. In short, go here for their dim sum. -

This is the old Flamingo Chinese Restaurant with a small makeover and new management. Went here for dim sum and "Wow" was I surprised! The restaurant was completely packed! We were quickly seated and ready to order. The days of the old carts being pushed around from table to table are gone. All items can now be ordered off a list offering 105 items! All the regular dims sum favorites are offered(sui mai, sticky rice wraps, chickens feet, ha gow, steamed rice flour rolls, steamed/baked buns, etc...) along with other delicious specialty items. The prices are slightly higher than other dim sum places, but warranted based on the size and quality of the dishes. Service was quick and friendly. I will definitely be bringing my parents back on my next visit! They'll love it!

Just had Dim Sum here this morning. As with any good Chinese restaurants here in Vancouver or Toronto, I find each has a "special" skill set within their kitchen that sets them apart. Some chefs are superb w/ the expensive meals while others have their own unique abilities for certain classic dishes. I tend to enjoy the simple things in life done exceptionally well. The one dish I enjoyed immensely on their Dim Sum menu is the House Special Ribs. Why, it was very crispy/toasty outside, very hot/warm throughout the 20 mins it sat on the table (not turning soggy or soft), and the sweet/tangy glazing was spot on, not too thick or heavy nor too thin or runny like. If the fat was liquified as well, it would be one heck of a signature but simple dish. Back to my earlier rant, I believe this kitchen knows how to make rice noodles/flour wrapping EXTREMELY well. The shrimp in rice paste, the rice roll in soy sauce supreme and the other flour wrappings for many dim sum dishes were just near perfect. So if you like carb, you should fall in love w/ their noodles and flour wrappings on their dim sum menu. Service was decent, manager was friendly and likable, and the wait staff was very courteous. Did not use the bathroom to confirm its cleanliness but the tables and dishes on it were clean. After additional visits, I will consider upgrading or downgrading from there. For a first visit, 4 stars not a problem.
