Review from Anne B.
I went to Fran's for the first time a few weeks ago on the way up North to my cottage. I was about to do some grocery shopping at the Sobey's in the same plaza and thought it wise not to grocery shop on an empty stomach! I'd heard good things about the place and decided to give it a go.
My friends and I all ordered the grilled cheese and fries (it was a chain reaction of realizing deep-seated cravings) and we were very happy with our choice! The grilled cheese comes on egg bread (mmmmm) and it's packed full of oooey gooey goodness! The fries are also praise worthy. They were crisp, perfectly seasoned and plentiful.
Our only compliant was that it took a little longer than we expected to receive our orders. When we were in the restaurant it was seriously just our table and one other table...meaning that making 3 grilled cheese sandwiches shouldn't have taken 20 minutes. However, the fact that they were exceptionally delicious was the saving grace.
If you're passing through Barrie and in the mood for some no-nonsense food I would recommend trying Fran's out! -

I have been to Frans a few times and each time was just okay..
The problem with being open 24 hours is you never know when the last time the restaurant has been cleaned..
The last time I went there, the food was all garbage, but I guess that's what you get when there is kids running the kitchen. The food is just average anyway, but it was really horrible the last time I was here and I haven't been back since.
There are alot of great restaurants in Barrie, so you can do better then this place! -

Barrie is one of those funny little cities where everything shuts down on Sundays and on a long weekend at midnight you can forget about finding something open.
Here comes along Fran's, with its kitchy dinner appeal and 24-hour neon sign inviting me in for a bite. When we walked in we were immediately greeted my our friendly waiter and a pack of howling drunken 20-somethings celebrating a holiday they probably don't understand!
Our waiter Michael was super sweet and attentive. He gave good suggestions when requested, provided additional explanation on the items we ordered and even brought us an extra shot of espresso for our latte. Although I can't say that it was the best latte I've ever had, the extra caffein was definitely appreciated!
I ordered the calamari and it was phenomenal! Definitely a modern twist on traditional calamari, Fran's serves theirs with grilled veggies and a spicy Thai sauce.
Our service was lightning speed and I stole a few JD chicken wings from my hubby when he wasn't looking and I can attest to their tastiness. -

Looking for a place to have a late night snack or a mid-day brunch after staying out all night? Fran's is open 24h on weekends, even on holidays!
They have an extensive menu of diner classics including an all day breakfast and some desert classics such as the banana split and the 50's classic milk shake.
I was contemplating on the poutine as a first choice with the banana split for second and the Jack Daniel's wings as a back up plan. Our waiter Michael was nice enough to tell me that the poutine was made with shredded cheddar cheese and not the real curd cheese. Seeing that I'm from Quebec, it would be blasphemy for me to even consider this inferior poutine with graded "cheese". So I asked Michael if he would recommend the banana split or the wings as a late night snack. "For your money, you get a better deal with the wings," said Michael. So the wings I got. And man were they good!
Oh, we also ordered lattes, which came with an extra shot of espresso in case we wanted to "kick it up a notch," which I did. :-)
Fran's has been around for a long time and has couple locations in Toronto, which I've never visited. The Barrie location is fairly recent but feels like it's been there forever. It's a great place and I've yet to be disappointed. -

I went for lunch today with my 22 year old son.
Being British we asked if the fish was fresh and not frozen and we were told it was fresh and battered to order.
It was really good. There is an option for lunch of one piece of fish but we opted for the 2 pieces for $3 more.
There was SO much food. But it was SO good. Hot, tasty and delicious!!
We even "forced" down a dessert. My son had the triple chocolate cake and the piece was HUGE.
I asked if they had banana split as I has seen it on the website but it wasn't on the menu.
They gladly made me a banana split. I am somewhat of a banana split connoisseur and this was GOOD. One of the best yet.
Soft drinks are refillable and came with a smile as did the food.
Our waitress was Lee-Anne and service was excellent. She was very friendly and helpful and seemed very happy.
A pleasant lunch and will definitely return.
Thanks to my 20 year old son for the recommendation otherwise we might not have bothered trying Fran's.
Fish and chips were $11.99 each. Pop was $2.29. Chocolate cake $5.49. Banana split $6.49
Really glad we went and would not hesitate to recommend.
Now I know where I will eat next time I'm in the area.
