This place wasnt bad at all.
Clearly a mom and pop shop and the quality to the food confirmed this. It looks like its been going through a hard economy, but it's great to see its still going. The vegetarian options were great and it was awesome to see they had a dedication to having a somewhat healthy menu. I had the number 13 and it was very very good.
The only reason it doesn't get all 5 is because they offered sliced bread, then told me they didn't have it half way through. Small slip up, nothing that ruined the quality and the whole bun actually tasted great as well. Some communication between the front and the kitchen would have made a difference, but it's till somewhere I'm returning.

I'm not sure what happened at Franks, they used to be a great place. Now it takes forever to get a sandwich ordered, .

The last time I was there, there were 5-6 people in the dining room and two sandwich orders ahead of me. There was one server, two people behind the counter and looked like one person in the kitchen. I ordered a cold sandwich for about $9, I waited almost 20 minutes for the sandwich but had to leave without picking it up. I informed the ladies that I could not wait and let them keep the money. She never even offered to refund me.

This was about 3 months ago, I don't know if things have changed. I want this place to be good again because it is only two blocks form my shop.

I was really craving soup and salad yesterday, so I found this place online.  I was a little dissapointed that they didn't have chicken noodle soup for the cold day yesterday, but they did have an awesome French Onion Soup.  I also had a cobb salad that was absolutely amazing!!  The atmosphere was great and the service was excellent.  Will definately go again!  Thank you.

    Food: delicious.
Service: eh. They left out part of our order.
    Overall: 3.5 stars.

Kids' grilled cheese was good, but was missing the fruit on the side. Husband's French dip was good, but was missing the au jus (i.e. the DIP part). Random. Quiche was delicious, but also missing the side of fruit. They didn't tell me the fryer was off until after I ordered - and paid for - the fried zucchini. Lemon bar was delicious. If I were to eat there again despite these problems, I would check everything carefully before I left. Disaster on service.

great little family type restaurant.  i have been here multiple times and i can honestly say, i have not had anything there that i have not liked.  I usually get a sandwich, and their sandwiches are great.  they use high quality meats and cheeses for the sandwiches (boar's head) which i think makes the sandwiches that much better.  my personal favorite is the buffalo chicken and blue cheese sandwich.  the pieces of chicken are pretty much boneless breaded chicken tenders with a really good buffalo sauce on it, and a generous portion of blue cheese.  other good options are the dagwood (great if you are really hungry as it is really packed, and it has a really good spicy mustard), and there is a chicken breast sandwich, i think it is like herb something, but it is really good also

great place so you should stop by and check it out.  and score some day old cookies if there are any :D

I hate to do this because I used to love Frank's Famous for their cookies.  BUT me and my family of four (husband and two daughters) dined for lunch recently with a coupon.  The girls shared a corned beef and my husband and I each ordered our own sandwiches and a side of fries.  They didn't have any of the cookies I used to love there, so we bought 2 of the Easter cookies they had on display - depleting half of their supply.  The cost of our meal (with poor-quality tough corned beef that my daughters couldn't chew and store bought cookies) = $60!!!!!!!  SIXTY DOLLARS!!  SIXTY!!  FOR THREE SANDWICHES, FRIES AND TWO COOKIES!!!

Granted, we only paid $45 after the coupon and tip (which they automatically charged at 18%).  We will NOT ever be going back.  Here is a list of places you should go instead: Langers, Pasadena Sandwich Company, Billys, Tonys Italian Deli, Jerrys Famous Deli, Tam O'Shanter, Giamellas.  Some are $5 a sandwich, some $20.  All are better.

Only LA deli offering Dutch Crunch sandwiches but nothing like SF's Lucca Delicatessen. Be careful there's 2 "Verdugo" exits on the 2 freeway...take the 2nd one. Skip the mac & cheese.

Update: 4/16/09: Whole sandwiches are now $6.99 (previous $9.99). Half sandwiches are now $4.99 (previous $6.99).

There are several reviews mentioning the "older" or "senior citizen" servers as being slow and/or rude.  I have been coming here about once a week for quite some time now, and I find all the people working here to be very nice.  Anyone could be having a bad day, so if you have had a problem, you really should give them another try.

Tonight I had the corn chowder (corn, potato with bacon in a cream base) which was perfect for a cold night.  My wife had the Tri-Tip sandwich on sourdough.  Everything was great!  And the owner, Tracy, and Angie, who served us, are so nice.

Today was the first time I've actually visited the location.  I've had Frank's previous to this visit, but it was always on a take-out basis, when someone else in the office was going to pick it up.

Frank's a cute little shop in the Glendale (close to Montrose) area.  The joke in the office is that they never get the orders 100% right.  When I went there I realized why.  There's all seniors working up front.  They're probably giving the wrong order to the folks in the back.  I love my seniors, I really do, but I like sweet seniors.  There was no sense of sweetness in any one of them up front.

Nevertheless, I know there food, so I proceeded to order.  I tried the Santa Fe Salad and didn't like it much.  In the past I've tried there veggie sandwiches, their pesto pasta, and Frank's salad, those were better options.

I'm not ruling out Frank's at all, I'm not.  But it didn't get the 4 or 5 stars simply because of service and I didn't like the Santa Fe Salad.

My favorite chocolate ice cream is Dr. Bobs Scharffen Berger Works. This is the only place in LA that scoops it fresh from the giant bins, unless you travel all the way out to Upland where their main store is.  Dr. Bobs is a chewy thick ice cream that sticks to your mouth a little bit.   I LOVE it :)

The flavors i'll drive to glendale for are........

Strawberry Brown Sugar and Sour Cream sounds terrible but it's one of the best flavors i've ever had.  Chunks of strawberry's in a slightly tart cream base, amongst pockets of brown sugar that have a little crunch to them.

Brown Sugar Pecan is a exceptionally creamy base with candied pecans and pools of brown sugar.

Scharffen Berger Works is the ultimate scoop of chocolate ice cream for me.  You have to let it melt a little bit though before you eat it, since it comes out a bit hard due to the amount of actual chocolate in the mix.

They have the best brownie sunday here i've had since I was a kid.  The day I was last there they didn't have any caramel sauce, the girl working the counter actually went in the back and made some.  Don't eat before you come here the scoops are huge, about twice the size of a normal scoop.  So when you order downsize one size. Unless your getting the brownie sunday of course.

I've never had actual normal food at franks famous..... so my review is purely for the ice cream.

Someone here said they like Frank's because they treat their customers like family. Well, I guess this is true if your family is rude to each other and disrepects each other's time.

For years, we have ordered lunch from here at my place of business. The last time we did so will be just that...the LAST time.

The food is nothing special; deli sandwiches, medicore soup, etc. People make a big deal about the Dutch crunch bread, but I mean really, they're out of it a lot of the time, and is one carb slice really worth being treated like sh-t?

The service is downright bad...rude and inefficent. The workers treat the customers as is they are an imposition; as if we just reamed their car in a parking lot instead of came to support their business.

DO NOT go here if you're on a tight schedule. Every time I've eaten here with a group, we never get our food at the same time. And nothing is even cooked!

My coworker asked for a chocolate-chip cookie once, and the lady behind the cash register barked at her, "We don't have chocolate chip today. They are only a few cookies over there." (She didn't bother to look). We gave up on the cookie idea and proceeded to pass the cookie display - where they had about 100 cookies! ???

They gave us a "recession price" on our sandwich but made up for it by serving crappy lemonade  - half ice - for $2.25 glass.

Every time we get delivery, they forget at least one person's order - no joke.

But the final straw was last week when we called in a lunch order for pick up. After my co-worker placed a detailed order for about ten people, the woman from Frank's barked again at her, "Well, I don't even know if we will be able to fill this for you." For US??? Hello! We're giving YOU business, lady! But not anymore.

The only reason this place even gets two stars is 1) it's not dirty, and 2) La Crescenta doesn't offer much competition (which is probably the only reason this place is still in business. Relocate to Pasadena or West Hollywood? Bye-bye!)

We hit Frank's for the first time yesterday for lunch.  First off, if you want to try this place, go on Sunday.  It was d-e-a-d, DEAD.  Second thing is if you wanna try this place, go on Sunday because it's Sundae Sunday. (Get it?)  They offer a hot fudge sundae cheap!  (We didn't partake but we should have.)

I ordered half a BLT with macaroni salad.  My wife had a half of one of their veggie sandwiches and the French onion soup with a said of potato salad.  Lindsey's quite the French onion soup connoisseur so she dug into that immediately and promptly put it aside with that "It's too salty!" look on her face.  She then said, "It's too salty!"  She didn't even want to look at it so she hid them behind the flowers.  We both liked our sandwiches, especially the avocado on them.  I don't think I've ever had a BLT with that in it and it worked well.   Mac salad was zesty.  Potato salad was ok.

The decor is quaint and comfy.  And we really should have had the sundae.  Later in the day, we ate one at Carvel's for twice the price!  (But we wouldn't have gotten to see a Cookie Puss and Fudgie the Whale so it evens out.)

One star off for the bad soup.  One more star off for how long it took to get our food.  Aside from a woman who was there by herself and already eating, it was just us and it took nearly 20 minutes and they didn't even cook anything.

This restaurant is a self-proclaimed "famous" bakery in Glendale in a small strip mall off Verdugo.

The ice cream shop uses Dr. Bob's ice creams and should be a five star experience just based on their choice of ice creams to scoop.

This review is for the bakery. The bakery serves predominantly dessert items with several cookies and cakes and pies. The cookies that I had were good, with conventional flavors (chocolate chip, oatmeal) and were somewhat soft but not undercooked. There was nothing particularly creative or original about the cookies other than the very high price they charged.

They had several cheesecake flavors and I tried three. The best was the lemon cheesecake which was only very slightly lemon flavored. I am used to fairly high quality NY cheesecake and was surprised to taste that this cheesecake was comparable with some of the best that I have had, although was just slightly too dry. While I prefer no crust at all on my cheesecake, their crust was extra crispy and firm (not a soggy graham cracker) and tasted good. The staff did not know what these items cost but after a lot of investigation ended up charging $6-$7 for a small slice of cheesecake.

Overall, the items that I had here were good to very good but I found the prices so outrageously high that a four star rating should be reduced to three. This is particularly difficult for me given my respect for their choice of ice cream.

Great sandwiches....and if you're as picky as me with what vegetables are inside sandwiches, they will kindly take them out and substitute with something else for ya. Sandwiches are stuffed with meats! They scored points there.
The  staff are generous and kind...service may  be slow at times during dinner but who's rushing when you're waiting for good food?

I found out about Frank's on Yelp while searching for a yummy deli/sandwich place in the area. I unfortunately did not consult a map and just assumed that because it's in Glendale, it'd be close to Eagle Rock but that's my own fault.

Frank's is quaint and family-owned & -run. The food is typical American fare but the portions are good and the food is generally tasty. I had the 3 cheese grilled cheese which was bigger than I expected and the sourdough bread was seasoned which made it that much more delicious. My boyfriend ordered one of the chicken sandwiches, which was HUGE and left with a fully tummy and half a sandwich left over.

The service was a little bit spotty - we had to get up & go to the counter to ask for the check but overall the staff was friendly & helpful. The prices are typically more than we'd pay for sandwiches but their size & taste mostly made up for it. I'm not sure how often we'll be back since it's a bit of a drive but it's a good place for a quite Sunday brunch if you're in the area.

My rating is in reference to catering and, also food eaten in Frank's.

First off, I've ordered Frank's catering for several work events. The delivery service has been prompt and we've never had anything missing from our order which seemed to be the case for some other reviewers. Frank's is probably the most favored place for my work to get catering because they have a good range of vegetarian options and diverse choices. I would highly recommend their catering services. I also had their catering for a baby shower and it was really great!

My husband and I have also eaten at Frank's about 6 or 7 times--primarily for lunch and a few times for dinner. We usually try a different sandwich or salad each time, and there hasn't been anything that we haven't really liked. I'd definitely give Frank's a shot if you haven't been there.

I've also been here for breakfast, and I have to say that I didn't think it was anything to write home about (hence 4 stars instead of 5).

It seems like from the reviews people have had really different experiences with service and waitstaff. First off, someone claimed that there's all seniors working at Frank's. In my experiences, this is not the case; I've been served by women (never a man...) of a variety of ages. Also, I've never had them get an order wrong. I also think they're pretty efficient. The staff is chatty and friendly, but not slow moving.

All in all, I'd highly recommend Frank's.

I was just here and ordered the Chicken Pesto Sandwich, which was actually quite good. I have a dilemma, with my sandwich I had the potato salad side which was okay and my boyfriend ordered a turkey sub with chips, his drink, and a side of fruit. A great meal but it would have been nice to shave a few dollars off.($19.72 was my total) People have noted that the counter persons aren't nice, and I luckily had two young people at the counter, who were VERY nice and helpful. If you've encountered the unfriendly elderly commented about earlier, I am sorry and ask that you try this place again :-). The guy was nice and patient with my boyfriends questions and the young girl was very attentive, (she asked if I wanted anything taken away and asked if I had wanted a refill.) Trying this place wont kill you. I survived :-)

The prices are just right, that is, if you can stop yourself from buying a dozen cookies and one of their mini-pies!

We had one of the worst dinners ever tonight. We had to reorder 3 times because they did not have food prepared or the fryer was broken. The food took over 20 min for a salad and hamburger n when served was shocked how bad a basic hamburger, salad, hot dog could be. The saving grace was the waitress she did her best. We will not be going back nor recommending which is sad since we live in the area and support our local businesses

The menu is extensive and I really haven't ventured into it. Everyone that I bring always has a good experience. The seating is limited and the service is a little slow. If you in a hurry call ahead and its ready when you get there. The desserts re always looking good and they also do boxed lunches for flights or picnics. I'll be beck next month, like clockwork.

I'm not a big fan of sandwiches unless they come from Frank's. They have a variety of sandwiches (around 50 and they're always adding more items) so you are bound to find one that makes your mouth water. They also do salads, quiches, soups and baked goods. This place has never disappointed. I stop by any time I'm in the area. If you're going around lunch time I would suggest phoning in your order to cut down on the wait, but if you have time to dine in, do so, it's a super cute and cozy atmosphere. They cater special events. At a baptism I went to they had catered and I couldn't get enough of the prosciutto covered melon balls.

Went at 3 PM and the service was pretty bad.  Took a long time to get helped and the manager, or whoever it was, was just sitting there at a table like it was his living room.  Waitress was okay.  Most importantly, the sandwiches and soups delivered.  And my wife said that their chocolate ice cream was almost as good as 31 Flavors.  Just me, coming from her, that's a huge compliment.  But, due to the ill service, I think I would only get take-out next time.  They could certainly be a lot friendlier there.

I just absolutely LOVE the selection of fresh and wonderful sandwiches!  The irresistable quiches, slices of cake, small fruit pies, the beverage fridge full of hard to find bottled sodas, the daily baked cookies and the Bob's ice cream!  The prices are a total steal!  This is my new favorite place for lunch! Who needs the craziness of Portos, give me the peaceful zen of Frank's!

Frank's is my go-to place for GREAT sandwiches.  My kids love the mac n cheese and the farfalle with chicken.  I love their #24 chicken club.  It is also a great place for a weeknight dinner - especially with a gift certificate from http://restaurant.com!  My only caveat is that their service can be slow.  Not a problem if you know that ahead of time though.  It is also an excellent place for take-out; call ahead, pick it up, awesome food.

Great little hidden find by the Ducati store in Glendale. Their quiche was so light and fluffy that it melted in my mouth. Will definitely be back to try out the yummy looking baked treats!

You know when you eat a sandwich and think, wow how come my sandwiches don't taste like that. Well at Frank's this isn't the case; it's delicious. Their french roll was freshly baked, sandwich meats were also fresh, and the swiss they used was super yum. Not so thrilled about their sides however great sandwiches.

had this for a catered lunch when i had to go to an orientation in glendale. i had the vegetarian sandwich and it was delish!!! it was on a baguette that was soft and fresh which is a rarity.  the mozerella cheese was thick and cheesy,  and they are generous with avocado.

only reason i wont give it 5 stars is that cookies were hard as rocks.

I haven't even eaten the food yet but will not even wait to try the food before writing this review. Horrible service. There is never any reason that a person should wait 45 min for a half a sandwich and soup to go!! Especially when the people ordering after me are getting their food before me! When I asked nicely the first time they said it was because mine was a panini. Ok I get that it takes longer but when the guy after me gets his 5 course meal before my half a panini I get upset. It would take a lot for me to go back.

This family owned business is one of a kind.  They have fabulous food, well prepared with top notch ingredients.  The baked items are delicious and the ice cream is to die for, Dr. Bob's!  Wow! Not only that but their catering is terrific, you will receive nothing but raves from your guests in regards to the quality, and presentation.  The food is not just placed on a flat table like most 'order and drop' catering, they DISPLAY your food, so much nicer for your guests.  I have actually ordered my Thanksgiving meal from Franks for the last 2 years as well, because it is delicious.  Don't miss out, go to Franks, they are awesome!

I used to love this place, but little irritations have made it an occasional "just okay" stop for us.  The service is really awkward and slow sometimes,  new clerks never seem to know what they're doing.  The little $5 pies might be worth the price if the crust was cooked, but it's always undercooked/raw/not even a hint of browning.    The cookies are good, but the ice cream is usually freezer-burnt.  The lemon bars are among the best i've found anywhere when they're good, but they are very inconsistent with the shortbread crust sometimes WAY undercooked and gummy.  Also, sometimes the "fresh" baked goods have obviously been frozen and defrosted  as evidenced by the wet condensation on the plastic containers *(At least they're honest about this, as in if you ask if there are any lemon bars, they'll say "lemme check in the freezer". )
The sandwiches are good and the bread is very fresh.  The prices are high and if they could be consistent with the quality, they'd be much more popular.  One thing about Frank's, they really know how to bake...when they get it right the cheesecake is delicous, cookies divine. I've just been "burned" too many times there with undercooked or sub-par pastries so we'll usually give them a pass.

Service was horrible.  Both of the older ladies were unfriendly.  I felt like I was bothering them.   Prices for sandwiches and salads are high and they used bag lettuce -- not even fresh lettuce.   An Ice Tea was $2.49.  Very disappointed.  I use to go a lot when they first opened, now I know why I stopped going.
