The #1 thing is certainly the enjoyment of the view at the top of West Vancouver through the all-glass windows. I still remember having dinner some years back when they were going for the more fine dining style. I have to mention and congratulate them that they have now toned it down and much more approachable and enjoyable.

Nowadays, they have an a la carte menu as well as degustation menus. We decided to go for adventurous degustation (8 courses including wine pairing for every course). One of us did not drink, and they did give us a credit off the degustation price for her. I did not write down what we had and could not remember esp after a few glasses of wine. I liked some dishes better than others - they ranged from solid to outstanding. I usually am not a sturgeon fan, but they had a smoked sturgeon that I enjoyed. Some creativity in combination of ingredients, but nothing too shocking. I particular enjoy the chef's attention on the texture and the portion management. If I wanted to be picky, I would say that while the Muskox was tasty, execution was not as consistent as I hoped, so 2 out of 4 of the Muskox dishes were too overcooked to finish. Wine pairing was pretty good given the price we were paying - nothing too low-end to enjoy and pairing was appropriate.

Almost forget to mention that service is great and personable too. A very delightful evening all in all.

Well, the view is indeed great, but that was the best part of our evening.  No one in the restaurant knew the extent of my experience as a resrauranteur and long time foodie.  Where to start...well David Hawksworth doesn't need to fear competition in the cervice department, because Fraiche's was wanting.  Basically raw tuna with a hint if lemon.

The seared halibut was tasteless and had my companion dreaming of a basket of battered halibut...at least the battered halibut would have a discernible taste.  The lobster bisque was bland and he scallops died in vane as they were also lacking discernible taste as the "sauce" reminded me of poutine.

The flat iron steak and lamb were welcome delights, both excellent.  A child's request for a pasta plate was easily accommodated, as was a second child's request for his steak to be cooked more.

Another hilite was an old acquaintence's help preparing my wife's gift...thank you, buddy!

I see that this place has its die hard fans (17 of whom have written reviews)..which may prevent them from changing a thing.  Friends, suggest improving on the items above (seasoning the food, bring more imagination and cooking expertise)so more of your customers drive away hapier.  Just a thought.

My favorite here is the foie gras, I usually have it as an entree instead of starting with it.  For brunch, the eggs benny.  Their risotto and prawns are fabulous as well.

Whenever I arrange corporate dinners for the associates, I always pick this place.  They LOVE IT!!  BEST VIEW in Vancouver.

I enjoyed this restaurant, which is surrounded by likely some of the most luxurious mansions in the lower mainland, for lunch. Very quiet atmosphere, and because it happen to be a beautiful day, we could see for miles out of the incredible views. Food was very good - obviously being a high-end restaurant it is not cheap (avg. $20-$25 ea. for lunch) - but the view is amazing enough that it is worth the price.
I would definately return - if i happen to be in the area. It is in a primarily residential area, so a bit out of the way from the city hustle and bustle - but that could also give it its quaint "local" charm, especially amongst the residents.

Great atmosphere, view and service as usual.

My wife's beet salad was tasteless as was my ceviche, which was really just tuna sashimi with some raw veg, with non of the lime juice acidity or spice that I expect (perhaps I was spoiled from many trips to Peru).

My main of smoked buffalo short ribs was good, although there was no hint of smoke, could have been baked in my oven.

Deserts however were excellent, well done to the pastry chef.

My past experiences with Fraiche were overall good, except for a few minor errors like the risotto undercooked and food a little bit too salty.  However my last dinner at Fraiche was consistently good.  I attended a winemaker's dinner organized by the Vancouver Playhouse Winefest.

It's truly a neighborhood restaurant because it's situated in the posh residential West Van hood. The restaurant has a spectacular view of Vancouver.  While enjoying a wonderful meal, one can also admire the beautiful sights of Vancouver.  Service was also pretty good too.  The servers weren't snobby nor prententious.

The canapes were delicious and it went well with wine.  I thoroughly enjoyed each course however I found the portions to be a bit too small.  Deets of each dish:

1)dungeness crab salad - very fresh, like the name of the restaurant. It was pretty light and the ingredients used were simple but complimented each other.

2)pork cheeks w/mustard spaetzle, trumpet mushrooms & sund dried cherry reduction - those cheeks were so tender and flavourful.  The cherry reduction added some needed acidity and fruitness to the dish.  The spaetzle were cooked just right.

3)grilled hanger steak w/parsley puree, mignonette jus- the portion was tiny! I could have another serving of it.  The steak was moist and packed with flavour and cooked to medium rare.  It was simple, straightforward dish that allowed the wine to shine and be showcased.

Since the winery doesn't make dessert wines, we couldn't have desserts.  Rather we had a baked brie.  I was a little disappointed by this.  A great meal should end with something sweet!!

In due time, I'll go back to Fraiche for another amazing meal and look at the stunning views of Vancouver.  In the end, it costed $150 per person, it may sound pricey but it's worth it because the wines were really nice and the food was pretty damn good.

I rarely am pleased with my fine dining experiences because the service, food and ambiance has rarely justified the price. Like all luxury goods, I expect cost to rise exponentially and value to rise linearly for it. But Fraiche is an exception.

The food was excellent and certainly not replicated at any typical fancy-pants restaurant. The dishes were very aromatic and it was obvious attention to the fine details and balancing of flavors were paid to. The savouriness was spot on, and the application of salt seemed, relievingly, less liberal than many other places I have tried. Service is great and meticulous, as our waitress checked up with us frequently yet unoverbearingly The extensive wine list is as expected of this establishment's caliber.

I was given window seating and the ambiance of the place draws comparisons with some of the very best views of Vancouver - breathtaking on a cloudless evening to overlook the Burrard Inlet. While it is on a West Vancouver hill, it is still only a 15 minute drive away from downtown, and describing the enjoyable trek up as "scenic" would be selling it short.

    Highly recommended.

The service was wonderful. She was knowledgeable and helpful. Also she did not keep coming around bugging us. She new what we wanted when we wanted it. The food was of quality and you can tell the chef has put some thought into his menu. The wine parings were a bit off bit got better as the meal went on. (as all wine flights do). It did not appear that they have a pastry chef on staff as the desert was alright. (something I would expect from a savory chef).

Short drive from my house, the view from this place is great. Lion's gate looks like a LEGO piece from up here. I come for brunch and usually it is best to call ahead for reservations but if you don't, no biggie, you'll wait a little bit for the next table to open up.

First time I came here, I didn't enjoy the food much.. I had the herb omelet and it was so bland that i had to use ketchup in every bite. The food takes a long time to come out, so that is a bad thing.

But since then, I've had the Red Kuri Squash Soup which was pretty good, the Prosciutto Benedict that was good but a bit salty, can't go wrong with ordering the simple Two Eggs brunch, the Organic Beef Burger is interesting with the foie gras, and the French Toast is enjoyable. Their multi-whole-grain toast is hearty and they serve every dish with a slice of watermelon.

The food isn't exceptional but it is still an overall elegant dining experience. It has a cozy atmosphere and it is definitely worth going back for the view.

I just returned from a delicious experience at Fraiche. I ordered the smoked sablefish, which I have discovered is not how I prefer my sablefish. However, it was tasty enough.

The accompanying saffron potatoes were bland and luckily the savoury clam & tomato fondue had enough flavour and interest to shoulder the dish. A seasoned potato mash would take the dish further.

The highlights include a beautifully balanced and fresh tasting pasta, that I enjoyed as an appetizer. Thank you Fraiche for allowing me to turn a yummy meal into an appy. The cherry on top of the meal was the Apple Flan with Maple Ice Cream...probably the best apple dessert I have ever had!

Oh, and we visited just before sunset, and what a spectacular treat to watch the sun set and the afterglow light up Mount Baker.

    Good food. Better view.

Sunny March wkd in Vancouver - not sure where else I rather be than this place. Awesome view of the city.

Food was OK to good. Warm asparagus salad w poached egg/tomato was pretty decent. Burger was in brioche bun and came super hot. Some trouble tasting the foie gras butter but the caramelized onion was awesome. Overall the burger was pretty decent - the waiter said it's "the best burger in the North Shore" hmmm not sure about that buddy...

The fries that came with the burger were crap. I think they were fried beforehand and re-heated in the oven.

Desert was OK - pistachio tart

Prob will come back for dinner and a view

First time at Fraiche Restaurant last night!  I think without the GPS, we'd have been hopelessly lost in the dark, windy, & mostly unlit roads leading to the restaurant.

We had the lobster/scallop salad and the caesar salad to start...  both fine but not really spectacular.  For our mains, we tried the sablefish and the skate wing that was a special for the night.  Our meals were flavourful and the fish was cooked properly - but both our main courses were fairly salty.

Service was attentive and professional - and the chef/owner helped serve dishes and chat with customers.   The view of the city was amazing, and the room was simple - but it definitely catered to an older crowd.

The one star I gave is due to the view.  Need I say  more?
Service was abysmal.  Our waitress was MIA most of the night, and we had to flag her down.  When she saw us, she would raise her index finger as in "one minute" (which I think is very rude), but then never come over.  Our food was just dumped in front of us, and no one came to enquire about how it was.
This brings me to the food.  Not worth it, at all.  The mushrooms from the mushrooms on toast were not "wild" as advertised.  Pretty sure I could have gone to safeway and gotten the same ones.  The potatoes that came with the chicken were barely cooked, and fully raw on the inside.  One of my dining companions splurged on the steak, and what a mistake that was.  Tough, overcooked, and if it was marinated for 24 hours, I'd be amazed.

    Fantastic food!

Definitely a bit on the pricey side for dinner, but brunch & lunch are an awesome value. Service on each of my visits has always been top notch.

One caveat: The wine list has gotten even more overpriced since my first visit. 3X markup over retail is downright painful.

Although the food is a bit pricey, it is well worth it and the food we ordered was really delicious. I had the sable fish and my boyfriend had the bison, both were amazing. I also tried a bite of our other friend's dishes such as the duck. It's pretty rare to find a West Coast restaurant in Vancouver that pays as much attention to flavour and presentation. The atmosphere is also very good, with a view that is one of the best in Vancouver (being situated at the top of West Vancouver).

Okay, the view ... spectacular, truly, truly spectacular for sundown and watching the city light up.  And, while it sounds like brunch may have some minor issues, dinner was wonderful- we had four different entrees and two appetizers ... everything was *wonderful,* with truly excellent service from both the waiter and the sommelier and lovely desserts.  This was probably the best high-end restaurant service I've had thus far in Vancouver.

Chef Wayne Martin's venture situated  -very high, I mean very high - in one of Vancouver's most affluent areas, West Vancouver's British Properties. The views are breath-taking and small intimate setting of the room adds instant comfort (bet that it'll be packed most nights.) Our friends raved about the crab cakes and the prosciutto wrapped fig appetizers.  We opted to go for brunch and got the Smoked Salmon Benny. Holly Hollaindaise!  The taste of it was worth adding that extra few inches on our hips.
