Definitely THE place to be on a Friday night.  The Friday Night Quiz is ridiculously fun and hilarious.  Its hosted by 2 British moderators and their commentary is really funny.  Some of the questions are really random, but others are pretty self explanatory.  Its $6.00 cover.  They also have food and beer on tap.  They have really good nachos - the portion is massive.  I've tried their macaroni and cheese before and it was interesting.  Not the traditional mac and cheese - its almost like a jalapeño popper, minus the jalapeño.

I would highly recommend everyone to check this place out =)

    I won't be going back.

The place has a good atmosphere and wasn't a bad place to check out some tunes, but only one employee seemed to know what was going on. The primary server actually got defensive when I tried to order a beer that was on the menu that he didn't have on tap because he hadn't actually read the menu and I couldn't know it wasn't on tap. Same guy collected our appetiser before we were actually done without even asking and had little interest in actually being helpful. The guy who knew what was going on was great - he worked the sound, was engaging, even gave us a hint of table service even though it was "bar service only."

The next day I realised I had forgotten a personal item and called asking if they had it - they did. I asked if they could mail it, it was letter-sized, and they agreed. Ten days later it hasn't arrived. Sure that's not part of their direct job, but they just don't seem to care enough to make me want to go back.  Not having it has been a huge inconvenience and despite being my fault, a little courtesy would have been great.

    Update:
Arrived today in an envelope that was unsealed and open. The difference between customer service and a task list...

The Fort Street Cafe gets kudos for hosting the only pub quiz in town.  As a former Bay Area resident, I could pick and choose from dozens of quizzes on any night of the week (with the exception of Thursday-Saturday it seemed).  Here in Victoria, I get a quiz on Friday nights (and it happens to be on hiatus for the summer in favor of something called "brain games" which I have yet to try).

But the British expatriate owners of the Fort Street Cafe put together an entertaining quiz, even if winning factors more on luck than anything else (there's a nonsensical true or false round at the end).

But let's move on to other things - I like how they have four beers on tap now, instead of just the one they had when they started out.  And the beers they have on tap are all top notch (Blue Buck, something from the Salt Spring Brewing Company, and a couple of others which I forget).

It's also a delicious place for a light lunch, with tasty soups, sandwiches, and plenty of egg-based breakfast items.  There's plenty of stuff for vegetarians as well.

And I've always been intrigued by their fried macaroni and cheese on a stick, which I have yet to try.  They have this on their quiz night menu.

Make sure to get to the quiz early if you decide to go.  The quiz starts at 9, but tables tend to fill up by 8:30 or so..
