This is a gem of a store, and is now almost exclusively where I buy my dresses. The owner, Julie, is so sweet and so good at suggesting different ways to wear things. And if you're lucky, her little bird Francois will sing you a song while you're browsing.

Things I've purchased here include a one-of-a-kind dress retired from a local fashion show, unique but work-appropriate dresses for the office, and fun pretty dresses just because. They also sell beautiful local handmade jewelry, and lots and lots of accessories that they've started making in their own store.

Two of the main reasons I shop here, besides the fact that it's a local small business and the atmosphere is so friendly, are the Canadian brands Annie 50 and Eve Gravel. I am absolutely in love with these two brands. Take a look through these designers websites and soon you will be bolting over to Forsya to buy out all their stock before it sells out. But don't worry if your size isn't there anymore, because it's FREE to alter the clothes to fit you perfectly. Julie has such a great eye for selecting designs that are feminine, form-fitting, just a little bit vintage and very unique. I promise that these will not be the Aritzia dresses every girl in Vancouver has in shades of grey and cream and dusty rose.

    So, here's the deal.

I bought a Forsya skirt at Nifty for Fifty aeons ago. I love, love, love it. When I bought it it was a bit too big in the hips. Beggars can't be choosers (I'm po, yo) and since the price was right it was a no-brainer for me. Very versatile, denim, high waisted and stretchy. Like I said, no-brainer.

It being fall and all, the season of tights and leggings hath arrived in full swing. Needless to say the "hippyness" or my skirt would no longer "do."

When I bought the skirt the ladies mentioned that they did free alterations(!) and encouraged me to bring it in. Naturally, I never got around to it because... I procrastinate. And naturally, I couldn't find my receipt because... I lose things.

Regardless I brought my skirt in (finally!), sans receipt, had it altered and made lovely (a teensy split in the hem had begun to fray) again. For free, months later, easy-peasy-pudding-and-pie.

Two days later I got a phone call that my skirt was ready for pick up. It doesn't get any better than that.

    **girlie review alert**

I may take a quick peak in the window (of every store I visit) but what propels me to enter, is what the mannequin is wearing. I'm that kind of shopper! Which is probably why when I saw a beautiful dress on a mannequin in Forysa I just had to pop inside.

Vibrant art on the walls (that the owner told me changed every 6 weeks); beautiful racks of clothes (many of which I thought I would love to wear) and knowing they only carry Canadian designers - win one for conscious shoppers everywhere!

Plus, they have a monthly market of artists/designers who show their wares.

Can't wait to shop again...(right after I put some moola in the piggy bank!)

Forsya embodies so much of what I love about Vancouver: great local and independent, original and cutting edge artists peddling their wares in a shopping/art gallery mash of good times.

From designs by Carny Love, to soya candles and feathered crocheted hats Forsya Boutique & Gallery is a good place to start your Main Street shop. Even better on a day when they have a wine and fashion reception or a lemonade and art opening.

Shop Local. Buy Local. Support Local.

    I love this boutique!

Just a bit off the beaten path (north of the Main and Broadway bustle) is an adorable little store called Forsya. It's fabulous-- with unique handmade jewelry, funky hats, hand-painted heels, locally designed clothing, wallets and more!  Bonus: there are free alterations available to clothing purchased in store. If you have non-Forsya duds that need mending, you can pay em to fix those up as they have a lil' workshop in the back. Now that's handy!

I came here during a Social Bites event (the after party was here) and had such a great time browsing around this magical little shop. I pretty much wanted to buy everything which was a problem, but the items I got have been some of the all-time faves of my wardrobe!

They host lots of neat little events so get on their mailing list, drink wine and shop till you drop!

Update on Forsya ... Julie, the owner, is starting her own line of what looks to be simply adorable pieces ... opening on April the 9th.

As Kath says- a great mix of local artists and a great way to support local artists generally.
