I love Marfa.
Had to try this random food truck in the middle of Texas. Ordered the lamb dish - YUMMMIES. The lamb was very juicy and tender and the kouskous went very well with the lamb. If you're craving something else try the turkey sandwich - it is bomb dot com. They are very generous with their meat slices (that's what she said). Since Marfa is small, obviously everyone seems to know each other and a lot of customers call ahead and order which is convenient. I like the picnic style benches- made me feel younger for some odd reason? Also you have to get peanut butter cookie or else you'll die slightly unhappy. -

BALLS!! Falafel balls that is. Broken record I know, but the Marfalafel is great. Also had the Fatoush salad with falafel balls on top. Excellent dressing and super crispy pita chips.
No need to chum the water, just jump right into the jaws of the Food Shark. -

I love the atmosphere of this food truck. Yes-a food truck has atmosphere. I really loved the wooden seating near the Food Shark. The food however is just alright in my opinion. This is hard to say since you are in the middle of nowhere but if you are looking at all the food truck food you have ever had-not sure it would rate that high.
You have to stop in experience the food shark though if you are in the area-it's part of going out there. -

Yum! Get there early! Once he sells out, the truck closes...the lamb sells out QUICK! We also had the hummus plate. DELISH! Don't miss out on this one. Put it on your list and make it happen :)

Completely worth the wait. Impatient types should've stayed in NYC (or, SFO). Like most places, early is better. Adam and his wife are a delight. Late night extension (with TV museum/art installation) for grilled gruyere and artichoke hearts. Go and ask some locals.

Everything I have eaten here has been delicious - falafel, falafel with salad, the hummus, pork in salad, chicken in a variety of sauces and styles.
They are always willing to accomodate my gluten-free substitutions.
A variety of unusual sodas.
The large wooden benches are great for groups and for meeting people if you arrive without a group. Though the wind can get quite windy. if the bus is there hop inside and roll down junior high memory lane while you enjoy the eats. -
Review from Quinn S.
Great feaafel, but a 20 minute wait after waiting 10 minutes to order is too long for a wrap, which was one of my only options since everything else sold out. Fun folks who run the place and I love the stickers.

Loved it! I had a sandwich with bacon and beets and feta on rye! Wow! And they were so nice. My girlfriend had "one of the best falafel I've ever had." Food shark is fresh, affordable and just the right amount of cool. I especially loved the eerie sound of your name being called in the bus, like it's coming out of nowhere.

This place has earned its reputation. It was the best gastronomic experience we had in west texas. Judd tables inspiring some mixing of locals and wanderers, a bus to eat on. They had a special the day we were there-barbecued falafel tortilla that also managed to be fresh and refreshing. Some awsome veggie tacos, three phenomenal cookies and an appreciative eating silence later, and we were a happy bunch. It's a must hit.
Be warned: locals will cut in line:) they called ahead... -

Best, freshest falafel I've ever eaten. Ever. Hands down. And Coca Cola from Mexico, made with real sugar, not HFCS.

This place is wonderful. I was so psyched to find vegetarian friendly food in Marfa, as we had a hard time otherwise...Their marfalafel is to die for! Deeelish! I highly recommend this place. To top this meal off, I would recommend getting a limeade from the pizza Foundation first and then going to Food Shark...this would be a perfect lunch!

This mobile food trailer sure serves up some tasty, affordable grub.
For $8, I got two soft tacos filled with hefty helpings of chile rubbed shredded pork, cheese and sliced beets, homemade salsa and a side of Greek salad. It was a lot of food, definitely enough for a healthy eater like me. My husband and son ordered the same thing, and we were loved everything.
My daughter wavered between the combination plate (falafel, hummus, homemade pita chips, salad) and the turkey sandwich. She chose the sandwich and regretted it. The turkey meat was very thick, and in the absence of a spread or sauce on it, made for an extremely dry and somewhat tasteless sandwich. We glanced at the combination plate plate someone else ordered, and it looked really good. Ah, well.
So, one unfortunate star for the sandwich. Five stars for the marvelous tacos, the Food Shark philosophy (fresh food made daily using fresh ingredients), and the ultra comfortable, shady, breezy eating area complete with custom made benches and tables. -

My wife and I purchased a book from the Marfa Book Company with cash. We handed him a rare denomination coin--a fifty cent piece. "Oh, you had lunch at the Food Shark," said the book peddler. The Food Shark is not only a unique concept where you order from the side of a truck, but they also leave their mark making change in two dollar bills, and rare coins. The same level of effort is experienced through their food.
We traveled far to reach the town of Marfa. Our journey through the Midwest gave us plenty of time to talk about and research the next dining spot. Many of the locals suggested we check out Food Shark. I ordered the classic Marfalafel (Marfa + falafel) sandwich (ask for hummus to be spread on it) which was right on. The crispy outside of the falafel balls and its spicy innards were fried perfectly. My wife ordered the special--a mash up of pork and beef meatballs with Mediterranean accoutrements. Nice work, Food Shark. -

Ate lunch at the only food truck in Marfa with freight train to our side.
The food matched the fun experience with very good quality-and reasonable prices to match. Hung out with the locals at the sun shaded communal tables. Wanted to buy a T shirt but the price of the T matched the bill for our entire lunch with soda and terrific brownie, so the memories will have to be the experience without the T. Try the Marfalafel and any of the specials; we did and were very happy. -

HIPSTER CENTRAL, but still worth it.
Delicious and fairly healthy food. Like most places in the area, they're not very fast when they have a crowd, but it's worth the wait.
I had a great New Year's black-eyed pea salad with lentil- collard green- andouille soup. Hubby had the very tasy Marfalafel. -

Marfa is a ghost town with hipsters. And with hipster comes food truck.

really just awesome food, easy going folks running the place.
The food's not too expensive, but specials change often .. can't really say anything bad about this place. Plus, it's a functioning business day to day / week to week ... not just seasonal. -

Oh Food Shark, what sweet manna from heaven thou dost prepare in thine food service truck.
.
On my first trip (trust me there will be many more before I leave Marfa) I had the shredded pork tacos, que sabroso!! fragrant and tender. My friend had the roasted eggplant sandwich (on a baguette). She yum yumed it up, I yum-yumed mine and the rest is smiley happy full-belly history. -

A welcome relief after all the expensive (but of course minimalist Marfa-ish) meals.
Is it odd that I prefer to go to a "fancy" looking place when I'm paying fancy a$$ prices? I realize I'm coming off as a cheapo here but after paying $50-70 per dinner at places with paper table cloths I was ready for good food at normal prices.
The Food shark had all the makings of an expensive meal as far as taste was concerned. We ordered turkey black bean tacos and falafel sandwich, (they ran out of tacos, so make sure to get your orders in before late afternoon). Both dishes were great and just over $20! They also seemed to recycle the bottles which was nice to see down south.
The only I didn't like was that they had coke glass products instead of cans, which is more of a personal preference I realize. -

I visited the shark after hours when it hibernates inside an 8.5' x 11' electronics museum. Artisan grilled cheese is the only item on the menu between 9pm - 1am. The grilled cheese, as to be expected, was amazing; and so was the wait. We arrived shortly before 1 and waited an hour in the museum before our order was up. The museum offers a wide variety of vintage stereos and TVs to look at, but the novelty usually lasts all of 15 minutes. The drunkest member of our party fell asleep on a couch, but that's partly due to the fact that the conversation somehow shifted to opera. It's a great grilled cheese, but I usually don't wait an hour for trailer food, or food food, for that matter.

It's all been said before - but this place has to be the best lunch spot in Marfa.
Trailer. Shelter. Judd designed tables.
My fatoush salad was super yummy and they have a great range of hot sauces. Healthy, well priced and hard to beat. -

I was prepared to be underwhelmed, coming as I do from food-truck rich locales (SF, then LA, now NYC) but Food Shark was very, very good. If this is what's wrong with Marfa hipsters, then I don't want to be right.

The address of this place may be a little off, as it is not a location, but rather a trailer the drives around Marfa serving up some of the best Mediterranean food I've had. It parks by the Marfa Book Co. and the railroad tracks.
I had catered food from the Food Shark at my friend's wedding party. It was amazing! The best hummus I have ever had, hands down. The consistency is so smooth and creamy, unlike any I've had before. The girl who owns the trailer also made a carrot dip/hummus that was also just delicious, creative, and unique. The homemade tortilla chips were so light and crispy and a perfect companion for the dips. They also served up some mean falafel and I just could not get enough of.
I was so impressed by the food, made in this little trailer, essentially, in the middle of nowhere. The woman who runs this establishment on wheels knows that she's doing! -

Be prepared for a wait. That said, the food is fresh, tasty and delicious. Mediterranean-style food with a Southern twist means you will eat big and healthy portions - we ordered the falafel taco, chicken tortilla soup and the meatloaf special - and everything was mmm mmm good.

World class eatery in this great little town, went here a few times when I visited and was never disappointed and always walked away having felt like I "done good" (as Ward Bond would say).

Best food truck in Marfa hands down! (hee hee). Yeah, but it is good and affordable and the wait wasn't nearly as bad as other reviews made it out to be.

HIPSTER HEAVEN - Weird seeing hipsters in the middle of nowhere. These are hipsters who try really hard to be hipsters.
As for the food, it's great. It was nice having hummus in Marfa. Their summer farm food specials looked great as well. Fun experience. -

A fun and tasty stop in Marfa. The Marfalafel was delicious--three falafel balls with harissa, hummus, red onions, cucumbers, and tomatoes in a large flour tortilla. When it's cold, step into the school bus near the food truck to find tables where you can sit and warm up.

Review from Rachel G.
on a trip to marfa last year i was hoping to find the elusive food shark, but never did.
this time around, my husband and i were walking down the main drag in marfa and came upon the food shark trailer, parked by the railroad tracks. it was nearly 3pm on a saturday. we walked up to the trailer and they said they were out of food. oh no!!!! they were so nice though and offered to make us something with the remaining ingredients. we told them we were vegan. they put together a falafel wrap with the last two pieces of falafel they had and filled it with veggies, topped with the most amazing sauce. they also had some gazpacho left. i have never liked gazpacho...except in marfa! there must be a different way of making it in deep west texas; it was fantastic! so good that i made my husband switch meals with me halfway through so i could have half of each dish. he loved my falafel wrap just as much as he loved the gazpacho, so it was a win-win situation.
if that is how wonderful it is when they have limited ingredients and are closing up shop for the day, i can only dream of how great it will be when they are fully stocked and it's not the 4th of july! we really lucked out. magical timing. it only exists in the triangle.Listed in: magical marfa

My new greatest fear in life is that I may never eat at Food Shark again. We were on a family camping trip last month to Fort Davis and had taken a day trip over to Marfa for lunch. It was a Tue or Wed and there was NOTHING else open. We drove by the Food Shark but were a little "skerred" of eating from a kitchen-on-wheels. We hunted down a local and she directed us back over saying she ate there every day! As soon as we got in line, some other locals befriended our three children while we perused the promising menu. As soon as I read the ingredients of the MarFalafel, I was sold! It was so good I haven't stopped daydreaming about it for the last month. They also scored bonus points because my kids ate every last bite of their black bean tacos and then RAVED about how good they were.

Ohmy. The food served from this kitchen on wheels is absolutely scrumptious. We had the pork tacos, the Marfalafel, and the turkey picadillo tacos, All three dishes were cooked to perfection, hefty portions and heaven in your mouth. We showed up right at opening time and were glad we did. As if on cue at opening time, people began coming out of the woodwork from nearby businesses to stand in their spot in the Food Shark line. Thankfully we were the second to place our order and didn't have to wait long for our meals. Eat here. You won't be disappointed.

What can I say that hasn't already been pointed out? Place is great and is worth rearranging your visit to Marfa so you can be there when it's open. Loved that a food truck was named 2010 Business of the Year by the local Chamber of Commerce!

This place lives up to the hype. We showed up to the lot a few minutes early and I was sad that it was empty. I thought that perhaps we were there on the wrong day or had been given false information, but a few minutes later we saw an old van making its way down the street and we knew that something special was about to happen. There is a standard menu that is served every day. One of the daily items is the marfalafel. Fabulous. They also have a few daily specials that are based on what is locally available. My husband had the lamb picadillo tacos and raved after every bite. All of the items are Mediterranean centered and can be complemented by bottled sodas and other treats. Food Shark isn't just eating, it is an experience. An experience that I loved every minute of.

i stopped by Food Shark at lunch time on new years eve.. it was hoppin.. most of the patrons looked like tourists passing thru from LA or Houston.. trendy white people.. (which is cool.. just what i observed)..
me and my girl ordered from the daily specials menu.. I got the ancho beef chili with salad and a blue sky orange creme soda.. she got the roasted chicken sandwhich with brie and basil pesto on a ciabatta bun with salad and blue sky ginger ale...
we had to wait about 20-30 min for the food.. which seemed rather quick considering the amount of people (~40) there and the fact that there was 1 dude at the register and 1 lady preparing the food..
the food was delicious!
the chili was just so spot-on.. i would expect it to win a contest.. it was hearty, savory.. a little spicy.. just perfect.
the chicken sandwhich was also amazing. the flavors of the brie, pesto, and perfectly roasted chicken came together on a ciabatta bun and created a party in your mouth..
this is gourmet food out of a truck folks! its a must try place if you're ever in marfa.. -

Soooooooo good! I ate here in July one day while passing through Marfa and really, really want to go back. The combo plate was perfection. Very friendly at the window, too! Will definitely make it a point to get to Marfa again so I can give it another go.

New York, NY
The Food Shark is truly splendid. The trailer can be found most days around noon on the lot just off Highland Street near the railroad tracks where the Farmer's Market is held Saturday mornings. I ate a plate of roast pork cubes served with rice and beans, guacamole, fresh salad and a taco, and the whole thing was utterly delicious, and a good deal at $9.00 (keeping in mind that food in Marfa generally costs around 20% more than in most urban areas because of all the distance it had to travel to get here!). Unless you want your meal to go, you can eat at one of several enormous outdoor tables designed by Donald Judd, and at these communal tables it's hard not to get into conversation with your fellow diners, because Marfa's that sort of place. Enjoy!
