The Goggle is my home away from home. Tucked unassumingly away on Argyle Street, this gem serves up some of the best, freshest food I've had in town.
The Goggle Burger is my favourite but the same can be said for just about anything on their menu. Not into meat - they have a good selection for vegetarian and vegan diets too.
They've just finished some renos and lunch moves a lot faster which is great when you're limited to an hour but still want to sit and enjoy a meal. Staff here are more family than anything, you feel welcome every time you come through the door.
If you haven't gone you've got to try this place! It's local, lovely and just flat out delicious. -

Who doesn't love the name of this place anyways?
We thought we'd treat ourselves to a little fog and some gog. It's a pretty neat place tucked into Argyle street. Very ahem, foggy to say the least. Neat seating though! Who doesn't love a good leather couch from time to time. The decor somewhat confuses me but after further studying I think I got it?
We didn't know what to order but I found the staff favourite icons kinda neat. Who dare order anything that isn't a favourite? Scary stuff. Never-the-less we both ended up getting the same thing. I HATE IT WHEN THAT HAPPENS. I always like being able to try 2 dishes. They have a pretty whole-heartedly Maritime menu which is always a bonus in my books. While wanting to get something unique and zippy, I was needing me a good 'ol burg on my plate. We went with the goggle burger and since they don't have fryers we went with the next best thing: foggy spuds. So I really was telling the truth when we had some fog and gog. The burger was massive yet juicy and super delish. It was however missing a pickle. The pickle is a huge deal breaker for me- perhaps not for some.
Not to worry, the foggy spuds reeled in another star for me, they were phenomenal! Certainly not good for you, but the fact they were baked and not fried upped the health points. Roasted potatoes, crisp bacon, corn, and red onion topped with a aged cheddar. Drool. The corn was in all honesty the best part of these, you could taste the flavour through the whole dish.
Another cool point? They have daily deals which are crazy! Ie: Wed is 2$ off pulled pork. Thur is 2$ propellor porter. Sat is 2$ white wine and mussels, etc
I can't wait for patio season to pucker up. I sense this is a great spot in the summer. -

I've been meaning to check out the Foggy Goggle for some time now and finally managed to convince a friend to hit it up. It did not disappoint!
First, the atmosphere is just too cozy for words: big comfy arm chairs, chalk board with the specials and a nice long bar. Second, I don't know about the guy's bathroom, but the girls one is just plain awesome!! As an adult with the equivalent of a 2 year old's bladder, I've seen pretty much every restaurant bathroom in a five mile radius and this one takes the cake! I mean any place that has mouthwash and hairspray in it is going to have me coming back, let me tell you! Finally, the food and service. We grabbed the pizza points (get the extra garlic dip, you'll thank me later) and each got the burger. All of it was good, not mind-boggling, but definitely good. I will say that I love that nothing is deep fried and the food actually tastes like the ingredients used - next time I'll be trying the steak sandwich. Our waitresses (I think we had a good 4 of them at one point) were friendly, helpful and speedy.
Overall, a good experience and will be back for more! -

Great Googly Foogooly!
The Foggy Goggle (my friend calls it the Google because that tends to come out first) has become a go-to place and a welcome change from other go-to places. It's a place to go and have slightly less guilty pub food (though let's not kid ourselves. The food might not be deep-fried here, but this ain't a salad bar.) Service can be pretty good or kinda slow. But when I go there, I'm there for the evening. I don't mind if my beer's a little slow to come. And the food is good enough to wait for.
Speaking of. The food. Oh em gee. THE FOOD. The Goggle Burger is seriously the best, hands down burger not only in Halifax, but that I've ever eaten. It's spectacular. The steak sandwich occasionally has me cravin' too. Beer selection is great local brews. Decor is unique, yet familiar. It's also a cool, intimate live music venue. All in all, a fave.Listed in: Where You'll Find Me

Argyle street should be renamed Restaurant Row for all the food establishments that load the street. The Foggy Goggle is as good as it gets on this culinary-painted road; the 5-star rating screams as much.
If it's a beautiful and warm sunny day, I insist you take advantage of their patio. Albeit the view isn't spectacular, (hello, big hole that is the future home of the convention centre!), it's a great spot for people-watching while catching some rays. If you're visiting the other 10 months of the year, you can either grab a comfy chair, sit at a big table, or settle down at a table in front of the large windows. The super friendly staff will be just as attentive to you no matter where you sit.
Don't need to stress over what side to get, because I'mma break it down for you: get the Foggin' Spuds, plain and simple. Tender taters in a creamy sauce with bacon and melted cheddar. Have your tastebuds started lusting yet? Because mine are wet with desire just thinking about them. If you're a veggie, then I guess you'll have to miss out, but their regular roasted potatoes are pretty good too.
Now you can start figuring out what to eat with your spuds. Some of my favourites are the burger and the mac and cheese. Their steak sandwhich is also pretty good, but I think I would like it better if it were on a crispier baguette and already served with cheese. As it is, I had to pay extra for an order of aged cheddar, but it did make the difference.
Enjoy the food with a beer, some friends, and savour the casual, laid-back atmosphere. Foggy Goggle is the right place for just about any occasion for fun and food.Listed in: Rocktober: 30-Day Yelp…, Good Burger

I have friends who love the Goggle and I have friends (or one anyway) who really don't.
I fall in with the former. The Goggle is a pub and acts accordingly. The servers are always friendly, even on busy night, and the menu, as pubs go, is great. The haddock burger is one of the best I've had, the Goggle burger is a big favourite with friends and they have many delicious and local beers on tap. I do find their potato wedges often fall on the oily side, but that haddock burger forgives a lot.
It's a great pub for a casual meal with friends. Stop in! -

Lunch today at the FG. Looked inviting and warm as I walked in. Some booths, tables, benches - lots of choice and eclectic!
The staff were welcoming and very friendly. And absolutely ok with giving their opinion on what to choose (which I appreciate). Daily specials and a regular menu.
I opted for the Portobello Sandwich and the soup of the day (tomato/veg stew with croutons and cheese). Grilled mushrooms, goat cheese, balsamic drizzle and a sweet chutney type topping. Simply! Delicious... Soup was excellent too - very flavourful and just enough.
My friend opted for the bean, veg and cheese burrito (special of the day) with the soup. She said it was a great soup and an "ok" burrito.
I wanted the brownie so badly... Gives me an excuse to visit again.
Service was swift and we were out within the hour. -

I know, I know. Those of you who are FG loyalists (and there are plenty of you) will be all upset by my three star rating, but hear me out. The food here is pretty darned dandy. Wholesome, home-cooked and delicious. I have nothing negative to say about the food. Not one single thing. It's the best-for-you bar food in town and that wins MAJOR stars with me.
But, despite the deliciousness of the food, I've never been able to get into the atmosphere, which for me is equally important. I always feel that the decor, etc. doesn't make me feel nearly as "at home" as the food does. It's too tavern-y for me. Which is what prevents me from going back time after time.
So, from my perspective, the Foggy Goggle is a gem of a place, with GREAT food. It's just not my beat on the regular. Fair? -
Review from Jill M.
The Foggy Goggle just plain makes me happy. I've been three times, for very different experiences, and each visit was fantastic.
I first went for a fundraising event. It was crowded, but the service was still fantastic. The space is well suited for live music and big crowds, so I didn't even feel overwhelmed the way I sometimes do at other noisy, crowded pubs.
The second time I went was for drinks and apps with a couple friends, and this time I sat on the outdoor patio. The food was tasty and again the service was great.
My third visit was just for takeout - I love that you can get takeout here! I saw on Twitter that the daily special was a pumpkin/squash gnocchi and I just had to try it. The dish didn't disappoint! I was surprised to get such a delicious, flavorful meal at a pub.
Bonus points for serving food super late and for having a cool restroom, too.
I've updated my review to five stars. Last night I ordered the mac & cheese, and OMG. Made with delicious cheeses, caramelized onions, creamy white wine sauce, and baked under bread crumbs, it's basically like someone called me and asked me to describe my dream mac & cheese. I ate my leftovers later that night, even though I was full. You can also add lobster, and there's a blue cheese and sundried tomato mac & cheese also on the menu that I'm now dying to try.
Also good was dessert of apple blue crisp, and it doesn't hurt that I had a glass or two of $5 wine during happy hour, which goes til 7. The Foggy Goggle is easily becoming one of my favorite places to go.Listed in: Argyle Love

I've never met a burger I didn't like, and rarely do I meet one that I can't finish... but the Thai Peanut Burger at the Foggy Goggle kicked my ass... in the best way possible. A massive serving of meat topped off with peanut sauce, caramelized onions, bacon, mustard, mayo, and shredded carrots - even the hungriest patrons will meet their match in this burger. And if you've already committed to having a burger, you might as well get some roasted potatoes on the side. And once you've gone that far, you should probably take advantage of the nice selection of beers that the Goggle has on tap (many of them local). With tasty, fresh food and cold beer served by lovely staff, this is a great place for a bite to eat.

What a great little gem hidden on Argyle Street. If you've walked by wondering what they are all about stop in for a bite and a bevvy, you won't be disappointed.
Upon our YelpHalifax lord and master (Ben B) recommendation I tried the black velvet float. Guinness on the top, cider on the bottom. SOOOO good. I love mixology and adore when business come up with unique beverage ideas. The smaller version is called a Tiara.
I've eaten there several times and have had great experiences each time. If you like big burgers, I recommend the Goggle burger. It's a jaw-stretching eating experience. The nacho dip is very nice for a little nibble too.
The interior decor is nice and cozy. A miss-match of high back chairs and cozy couches. The patio is lovely as well. They have a small stage in the back for our favorite local bands to play on.
No wi-fi and not accessible by wheelchair. -

Not sure why I don't go there more often. I guess I don't get out that much anymore. (Sigh...) But when I think about it, I've never been disappointed with the Foggle Goggle...and I'm not normally a pub-type of gal, despite my Halifax roots. Last night I ended up there for an impromptu visit (all the other Argyle haunts were packed, and not as good anyway) and I've decided it's my new fav pub.
Servers are lovely, knowledgable and attentive. Drink and food prices are certainly reasonable, and I totally appreciate that they are a "deep fryer free" zone. Not that I don't enjoy my fries, but once you try their Foggy Spuds, you'll never miss fries again. If you like scalloped potatoes, you will LOVE these spuds. Scrumptious and creamy, with two of my favourite ingredients - bacon and corn! The portion is very generous. I ate the leftovers this morning. Great tip from our server to heat them in a pan with a little milk or cream to bring back the sauce. Breakfast of champions!
I also like that the crowd is quite ecclectic - a pretty wide age range and overall, a hip but not at all pretentious crowd. Plus it's nice not to feel old and ridiculous for a change. (Sidebar: Is anyone else apalled at how short the skirts and dresses are these days? Honestly, girls. We don't need to see all that. It's kind of gross.)
Unlike some other spots that are better during certain times of the year, the Goggle is great in the summer (nice little patio), yet cozy enough indoors during colder months.
Next time I'm so getting the lobster version of those Foggy Spuds. That's right, lobster! How decadent is that. -

It's taken a long time, but I finally experienced the Foggy Goggle. On a beautiful fall Friday afternoon the patio was full with those partaking in Happy Hour, but luckily I was meeting friends who had already nabbed a spot. The service was prompt and friendly. I ordered a Ricard's White but then switched my order and asked for a cider, but was brought out the white, oh well not too big of a deal, I enjoyed it then switched to cider for the rest of the night.
For some reason, that I can't quite put my finger on, the menu doesn't do anything for me. I want to love that they do organic, non fried pub food, but I find there are too many wraps and sandwiches which doesn't appeal to me. Most of the people I was with however enjoyed the food.
The wind came up and the sun went down so I got to see the inside of the place. It is an eclectic mix of couches, giant library chairs and pub tables. The bathroom is large and rather beautiful for a pub.
While it won't be my first spot to recommend, if asked I will happily go to the Foggy Goggle for some after work drinks. -

Really enjoy the Google. Great little patio, fantastic draught beer selection and no fryer in sight. The food is fresh, different and pretty healthy but suffers a little bit with over-carrotage. Fewer grated carrots in everything please!
The nacho dip is fantastic, the pulled pork is excellent (especially as a BBQ fan, this is good pork!) and the steak sandwich is awesome.
I also really dig the art they have on the walls. I really like the vintage scooter photography.
The only quibble is the decor. It's just not a put together kind of space, but it's too neat to really be considered eclectic. I don't know. It really needs to go one way or the other: either tighten up the look with matching chairs, fixtures, etc, or go full-on nutty. -

Review from Paul B.
The Argyle strip is not one of my "go to" locations in Halifax, but a sunny afternoon on the sidewalk at the Foggy Goggle may have started me on the road to changing this opinion.
There was an excellent corner of the patio that just called our name as we walked by. Once seated our server sealed the deal with some wild recommendations - who knew that a Guinness over apple cider (in the same glass) is the perfect drink to follow up a beer and a white wine? The lobster roll was great, the pulled pork had some slaw mixed in which provided a nice crunchy balance with the tasty pork.
The star reduction from 5 to 4 results from the washrooms which, although clean, are very warn and dated. The excellent service almost makes up for it - but I imagine a world where someday the Foggy Goggle will be perfect. For now, it is a place that I will definitely frequent. -

If I'm not eating a home cooked meal, I'm eating at the Goggle. Easily my favourite bar in Halifax, it features amazing staff, delicious food, and great drinks. I can't say enough good things about this place. Just try it, you won't regret it.

Well, you guys aren't going to like my review.
I'm not one to say anything if I don't have anything good to say, but here it goes.
It took an hour and a half to bring our food. We had no idea it would that long and couldn't leave because we had a show to catch a show at the Metro Center.
I nearly had the quesadilla eaten when I realized the waitress had forgotten the sour cream and salsa. She quickly delivered it.
The wings were really tasty but we had to wait a really LONG time - well over an hour to get them.
I will NOT be going back.
The waitress felt really bad about it. She took off the taxes and didn't include the wings on the bill.
But to top it off, afterwards, the wings came back with stomach cramps. It was the only explanation, since my wife had the same problem and the wings were the only common thing we both ate.
The only reason I'm giving it a one star is because the food was tasty and I can't give them nothing. -

LOVE this place!
On a random night when I didn't feel like dressing up before going out we went over to the Foggy Goggle. It has a super convenient location on Argyle, just steps from all the best bars.
We started off with their layered taco dip, it was hot and delicious. After that I had the lobster Mac and cheese and the Boy had a different variety of their Mac and cheese. Both were to-die-for. We both had caesars to drink and they were spiced just right.
The server was very on top of it and came back often to check on us... Even sharing her favorites and recommendations.
The atmosphere is a touch eclectic... And the decor leaves a bit to be desired. However, don't let this overshadow the fantastic food and great music. -

The Goggle totally took me by surprise. For a pub that seems to have no idea what it is or what it's trying to do when you first experience it, after a few visits it all starts to make a tremendous amount of sense. The low-lit atmosphere, the mish-mash of chairs, couches and tables, the tiny stage that can theoretically hold a band...it all just comes together to create a surprisingly authentic neighbourhood pub right in the heart of the city.
The staff are incredibly friendly whether you're there for a networking event or you're just off your face with a bunch of friends at 11pm-attentive, informative, and just as ready to dish out whatever sarcastic quips you send in their direction.
The menu is a whole other surprise. It's a pub that serves a surprising amount of organic, vegan and vegetarian-friendly pub fare. I mean...I LOVE it...but I can't entirely explain the phenomenon. As a result, there's something for everyone here and whatever 'something' you choose, you can bet it's going to be fresher and healthier than most standard pub options.
If I were to point out one particular cherry on top, it would be that this is a venue that prides itself on working with local organizations and non-profits to host tons of different events and gatherings year-round-not at all intimidated by big crowds and easily able to handle the extra business.
Fantastic all round! -

Had no idea what to expect when we went to the Goggle last night for dinner with Boyfriend's sister. What a super awesome pleasant surprise! They really need to promote themselves or something, I had NO idea it was a) on Argyle St and very handy to everything (yes, I'm slow); b) so vegan/vegetarian/local eating friendly. For reals, you guys should tell people.
So Boyfriend got the pulled pork sandwich, as it was on special, with the Goggle spuds. They make their own BBQ sauce and it is very very good, according to Boyfriend. Spuds where awesome and cheesy. Super good. I had the vegan bowl, which is veggies and tofu sauteed in the best peanut sauce ever and served over potatoes. It was SO delicious! I have a funny thing about tofu texture, and they handled it perfectly. I also love that they don't have a fryer, so things are sauteed or baked. Love that.
My one "issue" (and really, it's not even an issue) is that I didn't love the set up so much. I felt like the space could be used better. Don't ask me how, I have no sweet clue about that kind of thing, but it just seemed... inefficient. But that was minor. Staff are lovely, bathroom is great (and has a crazy fast hand blower dryer thing. Like an airplane that thing).
Totally awesome. Will be back for that vegan bowl (also good with chicken, according to Boyfriend's sister)! -

The service at the Foggy Goggle was probably the best I've had. The waitress was very nice and personable and was very good with my group of friend's strange sense of humor, she checked on us often and supplied us with a heavy slew of their delicious Long Island Iced tea.
I got some really great mussels sautèd in marinara sauce with jalapeño peppers and various other items that I can't quite remember post-iced tea... What I do know is that the mussels were quite good, although I could have used a few more.
The ambiance was very nice. It is a restaurant with a lot of character. I was also quite impressed with the (aqua coloured?) sink in their bathroom.
One thing I found kind of negative was how cramped the space was, although that is really hard to contend with... Kudos to the Goggle for trying to make it work. -

My watering hole, let me explain why:
1) Great, fun staff: the girls take care of you, make you feel at home, and will chat about any subject you can throw at them. Test them out. Come as a group or a lone wolf and Nat, Julia and folks will take care of you.
2) $2.00 off various meals and drinks each day. Pulled pork is a good deal to grab on Wednesdays.
3) Chill environment: I like to go to drink and draw, they also have some sweet local books you can read. It's a dimly lit bar for some people, but I think this creates a nice homey feel. Not really pub, but also not a lounge. Just... home.
Only a loud (in a good way) bar when they have live music. Bluegrass nights are a must.
4) Great Vegetarian options: lots of interesting meals. Their daily soups are always out of this world.
Top food picks: pita pizza points (get the mayo), pulled pork, daily soup specials, mac & cheese, foggy wings. -

Going out with a crowd that includes vegans, beer snobs, foodies and toddlers? This place can please them all. Sophisticated pub with excellent choices for anyone and unpretentious enough to be accessible to all. Great staff, good beer and wine choices and a crowd 100% jerk free. I usually order the Vegan Bowl even tho I'm an omnivore. They're that good.

A great place to relax after work.
With a wide variety of local beers on tap, the Foggy Goggle is a great place to bring friends visiting the city. Comfortable chairs, a great patio, and awesome food (pulled pork sandwich is out of this world!) make this place truly noteworthy.
It's often deserted inside which might scare off some people, but saunter up to the bar and you'll make friends instantly. -

Ahh, my most favorite time of the year is upon us! PATIO SEASON! Big kudos to the folks at Foggy Goggle for being one of the first in the city to have theirs up and running for this beautiful weather we've started having.
A couple pints and some of their hot baked wings (with jalapeno~ mmm!) went down amazingly here the other day. The Foggy Goggle, a very interesting name. The inside is pretty cool
and the staff is fun. The crowd is a little younger and the food will fill the hunger.
I think people go here for the funky beer, the were serving the pumpkin beer the day we were there. It tasted like beer for sure, nothing special and we grabbed a burger.
The burger was good, not dry, or burnt to a charcoal crisp.
I think it would be a great time to go on one of the evenings they have life music, I love live tunes.
The Nachos seem to be a hit, there was a lot of them floating around.
I will try Ayla recommendation of the cheesy potatoes next time. -

This spot reaffirms the old saying: "Never judge a book by its cover". Admittedly, I've never been too keen on trying out the ol' Goggle and its downtown offerings. Perhaps it was the combination of the kitschy title and googly-eyed signage, but I was quick to clump this spot into the "No Thanks" category.
Shame on me. Meeting an old friend for a drink, we followed a glass of wine at The Carleton with a venture into the Foggy Goggle. My pal's friend was performing some live music, and who was I to object?
I'd envisioned more loud-mouth hooligans and popped collars, but I couldn't have been more wrong. Simplistic and modest in aesthetics, the venue instills a low-key vibe and friendly service. One large bar, lovely pub styled seating and a stage for live music geared towards the back-- this spot is clearly about keeping things relaxed. The Goggle maintains a quaint and quiet pub look while keeping things somewhat polished. Revarnished circular wood tables and old school seating were a nice touch.
From what I gathered, there tends to be a lot of bluegrass, folk and acoustic type tunes passing through this venue. For fans of a good old fashioned pub-chill and good music, The Foggy Goggle provides a pretty solid experience. -

A lot of the bars downtown are pretty kitschy looking, which doesn't give me super high hopes when I first try one out, but the Foggy Goggle is a new favorite. Despite the goofy exterior, I've always had a great time when I'm there. They hosted the launch of Propeller's Pumpkin Ale this year, which was when I first ventured inside. Since then I've been back for casual drinks and for a Dalhousie student society event.
Their food is nothing special, as far as I've experienced. The veggie wrap I had most recently was pretty bland, and dips have been so-so. The only menu item of note is those cheesy potatoes, which inspired one friend to claim she would name her fantasy rock band "Yay Potatoes." If that's not an endorsement I don't know what is. -

Great food and they are getting better!
This restaurant is great! But, and this is a big but, it hasn't really achieved a consistent menu of great foods yet. I have faith it will though since some of their dishes are great! And they have guts. I mean, they live on one of the most "cutthroat" streets in the city when it comes to restaurant competition, Argyle Street. So would I have been able to guess that one of their dishes would be Mac and Cheese? No. But it is great! So is their Nachos with Dip, although I would recommend a harder nacho chip and a lot more of their great dip! The pricing for the Nachos is also twelve dollars. Now some may think that is fair but they are right beside The Economy Shoe Shop Restaurant which still has the best Nachos in the city. And the pricing for those Nachos is very similar. So if you are going to attract Nacho-loving customer's, I'd recommend radically dropping your price down to eight Dollars if you truly want to compete in the Nacho world Olympics. Plus the portion size is about half of what the Economy Shoe Shop offers, so lets face reality on the pricing please.
So what food do I eat off of everyone else's plates you ask? Definitely the pizza and their Foggy Spuds. I am also a big fan of their Foggy Burger. It wasn't cooked to much or too little. It was definitely just right.
A friend of mine had the pita bits which just weren't that impressive. All they had was pita with cheese and tomato's. And it cost my friend nine dollars. A bit too much for too little.
Foggy Goggle is fairly new to the city. I could be wrong but I think it is only a few years old. So I expected a few growing pains and some adjustments along the way while they searched to find out who they were in the restaurant industry. Some dishes they have are great and fairly priced but others are at least a few dollars overpriced. Their staff, on the other hand, are amazing and lot of fun! Sometimes its hard to get them to notice you when you wave your hand so next time I go I will bring an emergency Flare Gun. But I definitely will be going back again.
