Review from Ayesha A.
I don't like using the word "gay" but this is quite literally the "gayest" place I have ever been, and I mean that in a very good but stereotypical way.
Let me explain:
It's just west of the 'centre' of the Village, so you don't have to face much traffic or crazy crowds. Before 11 the cover is cheaper (we went on a night where if you wore red you got in cheaper, so we wore lots of red and paid $6).
At first it was quite empty but by about 12:30 the place suddenly filled up. I was one out of probably less than 5 girls, which was fine by me.
I had read before going on someone else's review that there are topless men, and there was indeed many topless men, more and more as the night wore on.
What I didn't know what that the place stays open till 5 or 6 am, which is pretty amazing.
The man walking around made us check our coats and wouldn't let us put more than one on a hanger, so we were each forced to pay, which sucked. And the coat checkers were very rude.
After the crowd got nice and full and drunk, out came two lovely men wearing tiny little speedos and showing off their ridiculous abs.
The 2 guys I was there with hated it saying it was horrible and "too gay" but it's fun and quirky and good to go for a laugh with a really good bunch of friends if you get nice and drunk.
Definitely worth checking out!! -

Lets be serious unless you are on E, MDMA or Coke this place isn't that great. The venue is amazing which is why I have rated it as high as I did.
The cover is outrageously high, the music is sub par to say the least and the men are ok to look at but you know they are all tripping out on something.
As a person who does not do drugs, I do not get the appeal of Fly. Also, they have too many themed nights, so if you do not research it before hand you may be a ethnic minority that evening.
Save your $20.00 cover and use it towards 3 drinks at another bar! -
Review from Hiromi N.
Why is it that I, an average looking heterosexual female, choose to surround myself with HOT, HOT, HOT men with less than 5% bodyfat who will NEVER in a MILLION years would be interested in ME? Believe me, it is beyond the comprehension of 99.9% of my friends (straight and gay).
Yet, frankly, I love gay clubs. The hotter, the darker, the prettier the men, the better. I don't want to make small talk, I don't want anyone to buy me a drink, I don't want sexual advances...I JUST WANT TO HEAR KICK A** MUSIC AND TO DANCE. Well, I wasn't disappointed with Fly on August 8, 2009.
Lucky for us, we found some nice Canadian men who pointed us in the correct direction (the club is a bit difficult to find). While waiting in the entrance line, we learned that DJ FELIPE LIRA was spinning and that the large attendance was due to Latin Fever, VIVA BRAZIL night. We heard from a few of the fellow party-go-ers in line that the crowd is hit or miss depending upon the featured DJ. Well, I was totally impressed. There are multiple levels, mood lighting, places to sit & lounge, balconies from which to people watch and a HOT, STEAMY, PACKED dance floor.
Cover was $10 before 11 PM and $20 post midnight...which is actually pretty normal depending upon the DJ.
I had a BLAST...a very memorable evening and met some nice boys! If any of you see this review, feel free to look me up when you're in SF!!!

This is like, where all the "cool gays" go. Where all the buff men who love men go to take their shirt off and dance in hot sweatiness.
It's sort of "the" place in the village, but off from the village. It's the "best" of the guvernment (warehousey dance club with trance music) and a cruising bar (with a few bars scattered across the 3 floors).
Unfortunately, it is the exact mix I dislike. I know why all the pretty trendy boys like it, just not my scene...I enjoy the more casual scenes like the late-cruise n tangos or even woody's. Fly is a bit too trendy-gay-rave for my liking.
Strange enough there are a couple creepers that come here and prey on the 2 girls that are usually in this place. It's quite funny, I s'pose they think the odds are for them in a queer club. -

Fly is the big gay club n the village.
We'll it's sorta in the village. It's closer to Yonge, but who's really paying attention to semantics?
My favourite party there ever was Madonnarama. You wouldn't think she had enough for a whole night of Madonna jams but noooo, there's plenty you're forgetting about. Trust.
So when you enter you walk downstairs to a smallish bar/lounge area. Then, it's up a few stairs (bathrooms on the left and right here) to the first landing. Then up a lot more stairs to the main dance floor. Up two more flights of stairs and you're on the top floor which is just one huge balcony over looking the dance floor, coat check, backstage and more bathrooms and bars. There used to be a smoking room up there and it was like a glass death chamber; going in there for even five minutes was like standing around a fire at camp times ten.
To leave the club you go out a weird front pub area back onto the street from the main dance floor level. Weird, I know. Did I mention that the staircases are all made of metal like a grated fire escape? Forget spike heels, they get mangled in the stairs there.
Musically it's total gay house. It's mainly a boys club anyway with drag shows and drama and glow sticks and no shirts. Grapefruit is once a month on Fridays and hands down the best, most mixed night both musically and crowd wise.
Covers around 10 bucks depending on who's in town.
If you are a gay boy in your 20s, this is your spot! -

Love it on a Saturday (opens all night). Most guys are topless, wasted, the usual. Went on a Friday recently though and the crowd wasn't the same at all. If you want hot guys go on a Saturday night. Pricey cover though.

This place is AMAZING! I'm kinda broke, so I go early when the cover is free (often free before 11 for the first 100 people or something). The music is incredible. The place - three levels - the main dancefloor is usually packed so I go up to the top level where I can still see the amazing lights and dance my butt off! As a straight female, I love going here - I get hit on a lot less than at a normal club (that being said, there are always some of those creepy guys ... but a lot less!). I can just listen to the music and dance and have fun with my friends! Plus, always good looking guys there! Oh but it sucks ... water is $5 and it's a pain to refill. Coat check is expensive too. I don't drink much so I'm not sure how much alcohol is. Probably the same as any other club.

I'm First! WHAT?; Well this place is fantastic. Multi- leveled and full of hot boys dancing into the early morning light. We were here for Pride and it was packed, but not oppresively. btw, this bar was used for the interior shots of the club named Babylon in the award winning Showtime series Queer as Folk.

Nice club. A bit pricy on the cover but the production is first rate. Good music, good lighting, good mix of muscle, twinks, and those of us in between.

Fly is run of the mill average large gay dance club that one would expect in any major metropolis. I wouldn't say it stands out more than Splash in New York or GAY in London. I would say that the staff are much less friendly and the patrons less sociable. I do not personally appreciate being yelled at by staff to vacate the smoking area, when I still have a few drags left of my cigarette. I find that the staff can be condescending and overly aggressive. Overall, there is nothing wrong with it, but it doesn't have anything that makes it unique either.

If you are reading good reviews on this club it is probably from some drugged out twink who thinks that "men" are all hairless, skinny and are around 18-20. If you like over assertive security an over priced entrance fee, plus spending the evening with a bunch of tele marketer twinks with bad attitude and their fag hags in tow, well this is the place for you. I went for Friday night 90's retro. Well, they must have played a good 4 or 5 songs from that era and the rest was, well, something else. There were no men to be seen anywhere. Pushed and shoved in twink fashion. I endured, oh about two hours and scrambled for the door. Certainly a place where, if you are a mid thirties masculine gay male (what's that?) you are guaranteed to meet no one. This club was so Toronto it was pathetic. Just a bad place to be if you are really looking for a good time and are like me. Professional, know a thing or two about manners, no attitude, not bad looking and have traveled enough to know what a good club is and is not. This club sucks.
