YUMMMMM...I wish I lived in Victoria...I would have breakfast here everyday...
The Cliff Notes version of this review? GO!! You are missing out if you don't go to Floyd's!
Here's the Long Version of the Story: What a wonderful way to start a day, nice town, gorgeous weather and happy people that wants to help you, serve you amazing food and keep you laughing through your meal - does not get better than this.
Be prepared to go a touch early - THEY GET BUSY FAST. There is a good amount of tables and chairs and it's great to sit outside too - great little hedges block out the traffic on the main road and give you the feeling of being in a private garden.
With it being busy, be prepared to wait - but it is so worth the wait!
Prices are totally reasonable and you are getting some great food
here. For Brunch stuff, you are looking at $8-$12 for a great meal in a big portion that will keep you filled most of the day.
This dinner has been open for 7 years now - they have the system down pat and almost everyone that started at the beginning is still there.
In our group, we had the Breakfast Scramble, Huevos Incredibalos and The Homer.
Breakfast Scramble: Had the scrambled eggs with spinach, roasted garlic, green onions, herb pesto and feta cheese. Came with potatoes and a bagel - got the half order, which was still a very good size and filling. Bagel was fresh, eggs were a great consistency - not too soft & wet or dry - flavor - Wonderful!
Huevos Incredibalos: Baked tortilla shell with re-fried beans with salsa, guacamole, sour creme, 2 sunny side up eggs, chipolti mayo, cheese and served with potatoes on the side. For me, this was a big meal but an awesome one. Tortilla shell was nice and crispy, all the flavors came together and I "MMMM, MMMM,MMMMM'd" my way through it.
The Homer: An eggs Benny version - Chicken, bacon, grilled mushrooms, caramelized onions, Cajun spice, chipolite mayo and hollandaise. I didn't even get to try this one as the person who ordered it refused to share because "It's too damn good, get your own!"
The diner itself is a blast from the past. A bit noisy inside but people are enjoying themselves. The bathrooms are small but super clean! Had a chance to poke my nose around a few corners - and the place is spotless - room for everything and everything in it's place.
Go. Eat. Enjoy. Laugh. You'll be glad you did :) -

Their menu is really fun and the atmosphere is unique for sure the servers are all alternative/hipster cool and the place is busy in the mornings on Saturdays and Sundays for sure.
I really loved this place but after hearing things about their cleanliness in the kitchen I have been really turned off. I just can get over the horror stories I have heard and they keep flashing back into my mind when I walk by the place. ***I ALSO LOOKED UP FLOYDS ON THE VANCOUVER ISLAND HEALTH AUTHORITY INSPECTION REPORTS AND HAD MY FEARS CONFIRMED.*** The place has serious cleanliness issues. I was heart broken, this place used to be one of my go-to's but I will not go back until I have heard that they have changed their dirty ways. -

Yet another example of why I love Yelp! I was recently in Victoria and the place we had planned to have breakfast was lined up out the door. With two hungry kids & two adults suffering from coffee withdrawal, lines were the last thing we were up for. Off to Yelp we went...
Floyd's Diner was busy, but we were immediately greeted by a guy with some pep and he seated us right away. Before we knew it, the fun & quirky coffee cups in front of us were filled with hot coffee goodness and colouring books arrived for the munchkins.
The service was fast, friendly & helpful. The portions were generous and much more home cooked than we had had in a while, which was most welcome.
They had us in & out in a snap, without feeling like we had to rush out of there. We look forward to another visit in future travels to the area. -

Floyd's Diner was a perfect breakfast place!
We found it through the recommendations on Yelp and it was within walking distance to our hotel so we decided to check it out.
I had the Lumberjack with scrambled eggs, pancakes, bacon, sausage and hash browns. My husband had the Heuvous Rancheros. Both meals were delicious, very filling and great value.
The servers were polite, funny and having a good time.
Overall, it was a great restaurant and would definitely return. -

Always a safe bet when you're going for breakfast in Victoria. I've never had bad food or service here, it's been great every visit. The extensive menu filled with cleverly named meals means you can always find something for everyone.
The wait for a table can be lengthy at times, but they offer free coffee while you're in line; this is especially appreciated during the winter.
I only gave them 4 stars because occasionally the food has been a bit greasy.
I'd definitely recommend it. -

This place has gone WAY downhill. And I say that sadly, as this used to be my go-to place for Sunday brekky, something I've missed sorely since moving away from the island (Vancouver just doesn't do breakfast joints the same. Sad fact.) This review is based on the last time I gave it a chance, which was the final nail in the coffin for me as I don't think I'll be back.
I've been here dozens of times, and it was always steady when I lived on the island. The place is decorated like a frat-house living room, the wait-staff are a motley bunch of hipsters, hippie chicks and tattooed punk kids, and friendly if not great with the service. There used to be writing all over the walls and bathrooms that you were welcome to add to, but last time I went it looked as if they were trying to get rid of that trend and had taken much of it away, much to my disappointment when I went to show my bf my Beatles lyrics scrawled on a wall by one of the corner booths only to find it painted over.
The food is HUGE in portion and the Benny's were wonderful. Mount Kilimanjaro Pancakes were always my favourite ("Is your boyfriend going to help you with that?" seemed to be the perennial question from the wait staff as I dug in and always ALWAYS finished my plate). It's a challenge, but someone's gotta do it.
I literally used to love it here and come over as often as possible...but the last time I went - no. Just no. The service and the food was beyond bad. And I don't think I'll ever go back again.
We sat at our table for ages waiting for someone to come over with water, which our waitress finally did before promptly disappearing again for another fifteen minutes. When she finally came back we ordered, me a burger which I don't typically go for at Floyd's and my bf, the Homer.
We waited. And waited. And waited. Just when I was about to get up and walk out, our waitress walks out with a burger on a plate. Finally, I think, took long enough. But no. She SITS DOWN with a bunch of her co-workers and begins to eat the burger herself, even though I ordered about twenty minutes to half an hour ago and had not received mine yet.
I looked at my boyfriend and asked, "Are you kidding me?" The wait-staff, noticing our annoyance, moved away from the table they were all sharing for their lunch-party and our waitress came back over and sat down. "So...is there a problem?"
"Um...yeah. We've been waiting for ages for our food."
"Well, it takes a long time to cook the burgers."
Not even kidding. Ignoring the fact that she was blatantly eating one in front of me.
Got the food FINALLY, which was okay, tipped nothing and walked out. I won't be back.
Sorry Floyd's, I used to love you, but that was absolutely freaking ridiculous. I've never had such lousy service. I expect quirkiness and more casual service from this place and always have, but not blatant disrespect. -

Asked a gal in the liquor store where to get a great breakfast, and she said you HAVE to go to Floyds!! So very glad that we listened to her. We go there at 10 on Saturday morning, and the place was jumpin. Had about a 20 minute wait, during which they gave us free coffee, in nice big mugs. Everyone there seemed extremely friendly, you could tell that it is a true neighbourhood landmark. Just watching the plated go by stacked high with yummy looking food was making us all that much more hungry.
Finally got our seats, and ordered. Food was delivered in a very timely manner. Our server was great, as was the food.
This will be a mainstay on all of our visits to Victoria!! -

Floyd's Diner; where Gamblor eats every meal.
There's only one menu item that I've ever ordered here, the Mahoney. The Mahoney is a completely random dish every time, once finished you flip a coin for the meal. Win the coin flip and your meal is free, lose and you're paying double for whatever kitchen creation you've just consumed. Everything in life should be like this.
Pro tip: Floyd's is always busy on weekends so be prepared to wait around 20 minutes for a table. -

Great place for breakfast! Very busy place but service was excellent, everyone was very engaging and friendly. Loved the decor. Pretty good menu selection and priced just right (compared to other places). Food was excellent. Coffee was great. Kid friendly too. If you're in town and only have one breakfast to try, I'd definitely hit this spot.

I had brunch here. I love the funky vibe of the menu and setting... even the servers were a flavour of punk individualism... the food on the other hand was a wee bit dull. I had a version of eggs Benedict, but the sauce and potatoes it came with were merely warm.... The hollindase tasted like it came out of a package.... diner food already lacks enough, let alone temperature control! There might have been two other tables with customers in the whole place, so not sure what excuse they had.

Great Lord! This place has the largest breakfast plate ever! I got the BC Hash and it was more than I could handle alone. I recommend the 1/2 order unless you can handle some food.

BC Hash is the most amazing thing ever - crispy hash browns with layers of cheese, sausage bacon and eggs. Yum. If I don't get that, then its normally the meal with 2 eggs, hash browns, toast and your choice of either bacon, sausage or ham. Its a good portion size - just enough to fill you up. The Homer is a good benny too with chicken, mushrooms and onions. All in all, everything I've tried has been delicious and they don't get as busy as Blue Fox or John's Place as they're bigger.
The service is friendly and you don't feel the pressure to eat quickly. Definitely a good place for breakfast.Listed in: A Culinary Tour of Victoria

As a visitor to Victoria, I really liked Floyd's.
The line up was pretty crazy, but for a sunny Saturday I was not surprised. We still only had to wait for 15 minutes. It was pretty amusing watching all the chaos calmly unfold in front of my wide eyes.
Now, when I think about the massive Chicken Breast Eggs Benny at the moment I shudder inside. Oh dear, did I really eat that?
I gotta admit that I hoovered that whole damn plate faster than you can say "Holy sh*t, he's licking the Hollandaise off the table".Listed in: Best Breaky

The service is what really shines at Floyd's, all of the staff are very, very nice people that do a great job. Don't get me wrong, the food is great too! I had the "Flapjack Cadillac" 3 extra large pancakes served with a big mound of berries and whipped cream - amazing, except for the addition of fake maple syrup (yech..) maybe they had the real stuff somewhere else and I should have asked. Call me a maple syrup snob, but I think this being Canada all fake syrup should be banned in favour of our sweet mapley-goodness national treasure.
I also tried the "American Idol" benny, that comes with avocados and tomatoes, which was very tasty and enjoyable. -

I like it, I like it. I was traveling through Vancouver and Victoria last December and hit this place up on the morning before flying back to California. Met some awesome transit workers who had such lively stories. Everybody is so nice in BC.
Anyway, on to the food, it was amazing, but then again, we were starving! I first tried HP sauce here. It's good. -
Review from dave m.
packed? You betcha, There is a reason why -- they rock. Even in line the guy who took our names for a table brought us coffee why we waited; awesome. We were seated fairly quick and I had the seafood omelette and got a side of the pesto hollandaise, and am I glad I did. They have four kinds of hollandaise, and our table sampled two and both were excellent.
The server was funny-- she offered our late friend a special helmet to wear for being late. -

Sunday Brunch was spent happily at Floyd's Diner on Yates St. My Eggs Bennie was really good, not at all heavy or greasy, with really nice ham. The hash browns they do are really nice too, somewhere between a home-fry and a potato chip. Comfy, good value, really tasty, and not at all the wait that we had been warned about on Yelp, even on Easter Sunday. I particularly liked the baby pictures of the staff blown up and displayed on the wall. Makes you feel like the staff are really proud to work there and think of it as a second home. Recommend.

Floyd's ranks with the best of them in terms of Victoria breakfast/lunch joints. I have yet to try a Benny, but I'll mention some other highlights:
a) a vast array of vegetarian sandwiches and other items including
b) a veggie monte cristo - including brie, avocado, and more yumminess
c) incredibly friendly service
This is delicious, but not quite godhead. I don't know what it's missing, but I'm eager to give it another try. -
Review from Angela L.
So many benedicts, so little time! There were eight of us at the table and all but one of us ended up surrendering to the call of the creamy hollandaise on this busy weekend afternoon. My Eggs Ben-Hur, topped with sundried tomatoes, mushrooms, spinach, and pesto hollandaise was a savoury party in my mouth. Despite the abundance of flavourful choices and toppings though, we agreed that most of our eggs had been poached for much too long. Although my Victoria-based amiga assured me that this isn't usually the case, I unfortunately didn't stick around long enough to find out for myself.
The unanimous highlight of the brunch for everyone was without question the freshly fried home fries. While the large cross slices were satisfyingly starchy, the smaller end pieces were reminiscent of kettle cooked chips - both crispily delicious.
The one order of french toast arrived looking like two mountain ranges - six slices of one inch-thick texas toast. It was reported to have hit that sweet morning tooth spot.
The decor is eclectic with walls painted all different crayon box colours and adorning random framed posters of everything from The Kramer to The Beatles. Music ranged from ska to more non-descript ambient tunes. Furniture, let alone around the room, but even around our very own table, differed in shape and texture. The servers, dressed in their own punky fashions were incredibly friendly. -

Great food, fun atmosphere. Lots of choices for vegetarians, and even a few for vegans.

The only contention I had with this restaurant was the wait, and even that wasn't too bad considering how crowded it was. The menu had a small variety and all the food looked good. The staff was very pleasant and patient considering how crowded the place was. The food came out promptly and the serving sizes were adequate. The only thing I wish they would do is to update their cash registers as splitting the check was quite time consuming, but they made no complaints about doing this. All in all I recommend this place to others.

I like Floyds - Christine.....it is good. Good portions, nice friendly service, even if a wait they acknowledge you immediately and offer you coffee. Whatever. The place has a good rep and locals eat there so what it isn't as good as Village or whatever but it isn't as Hoity Toity either. Just kick it, write your name on the wall, read the paper and eat a hearty breakfast. Some people are far too picky to be living in Victora and should really move to New York. CHRISTINE!

I went to Floyd's for the first time this morning and I now understand why it's always packed. Friendly staff, excellent service, moderately priced, and fresh ingredients. I had the Romancing the Eggs Blackstone benedict and my other half had the traditional benedict with a side of pancakes. The pancakes were delicious! The bennys were both served with pan fries, not too salty or over cooked. The bennys themselves were some of the best I've ever had. My only complaint would be that with mine, the fresh tomato, sauteed onions and mushrooms, in addition to the hollandaise sauce turned the english muffin into mush in a matter of seconds. Other than that, it was perfect!

Excellent food and service. Love their potatoes. Will visit them again.

Like most of the other reviews, I have to say the crowds trying to get in are only a preliminary to the organized chaos inside. But the food...OMG! I keep coming back because the breakfast dishes are great. Let's call it "eclectic", but the "hip" atmosphere can distract from a delicious fare.

i had the eggs benedict as usual, and would order it again. -

Floyd's is the best brunch place I've ever been to! Their eggs benedicts are fabulous... the American Idol and Homer are my 2 favorites. Always order an extra side of pesto hollandaise to smother over the pan fries. There's usually a wait but it's worth it for the amazing food, fun atmosphere, and quirky waitstaff! And thank goodness there's TWO locations in Victoria now!

Review from Robert H.
Floyd's Diner is an energetic breakfast place that is definitely worth a visit. I had a traditional Benny while my wife had a Pacific Benny made with smoked salmon. Both were topped with hollandaise made from scratch each day. Each order came with a generous side of potatoes that were adequate but not particularly notable. With tip, the bill was less than C$40. The staff are young with tats, piercings, edgy haircuts, and a great service attitude. I guess we got lucky and didn't have to wait at all. But I sure that a wait for a table at Floyd's is a common occurrence. Nonetheless, it would be worth the wait.
