very cute little store. the cupcakes were delicious, and I was so surprised due to reviews I read that their other baked goods are actually their strong suit at the shop. i bought half dozen to share with some friends the following morning. every single cupcake was so moist and tasty. I love the frosting, especially the cream cheese based ones! the italian buttercream is just as good but much lighter. all friends were happy, so I'd definitely go back.
i was a little disappointed they only had one flavor of mini pies (which, was triple berry. and it's just not a flavor i'm into. but i'll go back for the summer flavors to see what else they have). and i *really* wanted to try the special flavor of cupcake, which was a banana with maple frosting (or something delicious sounding like that), but they had sold out! oh no! to my fault, i was there late in the day- around 5:30pm.
cupcakes are over $3 each, but i have no idea if that's considered pricey or not. seems like it is? -

Big Blue has a storefront now in addition to their awesome cupcake food truck! I feel like the whole outside of the shop should be blue! Located on Taylor just across the street from Thai Bowl (that's how I found the shop) with a lot of street parking right in the area.
The staff was great and super friendly when they realized we were regular customers of their cupcake truck.
$3.25 for a cupcake isn't too bad and so I snatched up a couple. I've had the McDreamy multiple times and to me it is their signature cupcake. Nowhere else has one like it and places that try are not comparable. I'm not usually a cream cheese dessert kind of girl, but the McDreamy is delectable. I also had the Creamy, Dreamy Chocolate which is similar to the McDreamy except the frosting is white buttercream. Another hit out of the park! One thing I love about Flirty Cupcakes is they have some of the best cake in their cupcakes. It's not just about the frosting with them! The chocolate cake is delicious, moist and it's among my favorites in the city!!!
I can't understand why more UIC students don't come hang out here. Between the yummy snacks, variety of drinks, friendly service, comfy, laid back & cool decor and free wifi---- this would have been one of my hot spots when I went to school here!!!Listed in: Mission Tasty Sugar Yum Nomz

Took a cupcake rampage across Chicago this weekend, taking a "cupcake flight" if you will...
I've had Flirty Cupcakes from the truck before and was pleased to see them open up along Taylor Street. When I walked in, guests were happily munching at several tables and there was a nice variety of cupcakes available. I did not try the cookies or other goodies and will likely stop by soon to give those a spin.
How did the Cupcake Crusade end? Well, Flirty Cupcakes really did not make it off of the ground. First, they were a bit more expensive than the other long-time cupcake. ($14 for 4 cupcakes at Flirty compared with $19 for 8 cupcakes/cookies from The Competion) To be sure, I'm ok with spending $4 for a cupcake when they are good. Unfortunately, these were a little disappointing at this price point. Second, they were a bit smaller than the other cupcakes and noticeably frosting deficient. Third, one of the cupcakes was dry. Again, this was head-to-head with another long-established well-loved cupcakerie that we consider the golden cupcake standard. I will never be known as a person to turn down any cupcake, especially these.
The flavor combinations we tried were very good and I am looking forward to tapping the last one soon - a take off a thin mint cookie. And I will be back as this place is within walking distance and The Competition is not. -

We got the 4 mini cupcakes for $5.50. Curious George, McDreamy, Devil in Disguise and McCreamy (?). Curious George almost made me gag! It was something about the frosting that just didn't float my boat plus it's salted! Not a fan but my friend liked it. The Devil is red velvet and that and McDreamy tasted like a dallop of cream cheese was on them! They were OK but I'm not a huge fan of cream cheese frosting so the more subtle it is the more I like it. I was expecting a lot out of flirty as I've heard so much about it but i wasn't a huge ran unfortunately. Sprinkles was much much better! Great customer service and very cute sit down area though!

Business must be good because the flirty truck has expanded into a flirty store front shop on Taylor. I love the location because it's close to home and Taylor is lined with lots of businesses I'm dying to try. I was excited to finally try some Flirty Cupcakes without the hassle of trying to coordinate my location with their truck schedule. The shop is really cute, the cupcake counter displays the days cupcakes and is well marked so you know what your looking at. All of the cupcakes are all beautifully decorated and flirting to be eaten. I asked which cupcakes have filling, because I like a surprise inside. I ended up going home with 4 different cupcakes @ $3.25 a pop.
Thin Mint: A moist chocolate cupcake with a super rich fudge like frosting and a mint filling. I wasn't a big fan of the mint filling, it was glossy, kinda slimy to the touch and had the texture of slightly lumpy butter but melted into a liquid mint substance in my mouth. Overall it was an A-okay tasting cupcake.
Peanutbutter cup: A moist chocolate cupcake with super rich fudge like frosting, filled with an ultra whipped peanutbutter frosting. I was pleasantly surprised how much a enjoyed the filling in this one. It was light and not at all over powering.
Black and white forgot the name...could'a been the McDreamy: the cupcake looked like it was wearing a tuxedo. A rich chocolate cupcake with what tasted like cheesecake on the bottom. The cheesecake had chocolate chips in it which all fell to the absolute bottom of the cupcake and melted into one lumpy chocolate chip. It was topped with cream cheese frosting and a couple chocolate chips. It was not my kind of McDreamy.
My final cupcake was the Raspberry Stole My Heart (for me it was more like the Raspberry Broke my Heart): A chocolate cupcake with a copious amount of baked cheesecake inside, topped with a light raspberry cream cheese frosting. Out of all the cupcakes I bought, I was looking forward to this one the most. It was a little disappointed in the actual flavor, the raspberry was almost a background note to the cheesecake and chocolate.
The cupcakes were all edible, and some components are really stellar, but none of the cupcakes were anywhere near craveable. I most certainly have had better.Listed in: Hey there cupcake ;)

So happy to see a sweet success story. Congratulations to the original Cupcake truck! Happy to see that one of the few trucks that ventured out to our neck of the woods, has decided to open shop here (University Village). Although I didn't mind going out in the freezing cold weather to get my cupcake fix, I am happy that now I can just venture over and be nice and cozy in the dessert garage! and what a cute garage it is! and besides the fact that it's cute, the tasty treats, and coffees are what counts! Cupcakes, cookies, pies, coffees, lattes - WOW!
I can hardly wait for summer to come and hope for a sidewalk cafe to follow! -

I am writing a review for a place I have not yet been. However, I want to say that the Flirty Cupcake van is my favorite, and I, like the other Yelpers below, have often gone out of my way to hunt it down. I am beyond thrilled that Flirty Cupcakes finally opened a store, especially one only 10 minutes from my house. I have filled my stomach's cupcake quota for the week, but I definitely will be in soon!
My favorite cupcake has always been the Curious George, which is a perfectly moist banana chocolate cupcake with the most delectable salted caramel buttercream. There is even a sprinkle of sea salt on it!
I can't wait to have a chance to come in, even if I am trying to give up my fattening cupcake addiction. ;) Maybe I should switch to minis? -

I visited this place last week with my girlfriend because it was close by.
Unfortunately many of the pastries especially the cupcakes were dry, the owner was very rude to me and she gave me and my girlfriend an estimated time for us to sit down with our coffee and cupcakes.
We were completely rushed out and treated unkindly.
I do not think this place will last long and I do not think they are courteous or talented with the things they bake.
I am sharing my experience with people for others to be aware of. -

Amongst the gelatos, tiramisus, and cannolis of Little Italy here in the city, you can find cupcakes! This place is quite a sweet haven for those that need more sugar than the average joe. I purchased a groupon here, and it expired so I redeemed it anyway for the value I paid. I had also placed my order in advance with the flavor of the cupcakes I wanted. I am disappointed to say that it wasn't ready and there when I went to pick it up, and I completely rushed here from work. Basically my order was forgotten, but I was able to choose from the cupcakes that were there. It's lucky that I didn't have a special order for an event or something, but still all orders should be treated with equal importance. Lesson learned to do purchasing on the spot. The one staff member that worked here was dealing with an upset me, which she handled pretty well considering how I know I can be when I get mad. She was understanding and tried to make this right as best she could even though she was not the one that took my order. Despite the snafu, I still like the cupcakes a lot here. I feel like I've had every different flavor except for the Pumpkin and the S'mores one. My favorites are the Flirtini, Raspberry Stole My Heart, Devil in Disguise, and Paradise Island. I just bought 4 specials today that I can't wait to eat - Strawberry Squared, Pink Lemonade, Me Want Cookie Dough, and Beached Coconut. These cupcakes make great gifts and a fun treat for events. You can get them delivered to you, too!

Went here yesterday during my lunch break for a quick treat. I've had the cupcakes a couple of times via the truck, so I thought I'd try the store. The set up and decor is very cute, just like a cupcake place should be. I was getting mine to go but would've gladly sat down to enjoy the atmosphere. The person behind the counter was pleasant enough. I liked that the cupcakes had descriptions, I hate it when places give them cutesy names with no real explanation of what the heck is actually in the cupcake. I ended up getting a chocolate cupcake with strawberry frosting (forgetting the name). At $3.25 a pop they are a bit on the expensive side for the size of them, but I guess that's kind of part of the cupcake culture. The chocolate cake was super moist, no dryness problems here, was nicely chocolatey. The frosting was good but seemed more buttercream than strawberry, would've preferred a bit more strawberry taste. My one quibble was that I felt neither the cake nor the frosting had enough salt in them (yes, salt, it enhances the flavor). This may be a personal preference, but I think I've had cupcakes from other places that get my preferred salt to sweetness ratio better.

So, I agree with Blurb above. RUDE, Noncustomer centric, won't last long with the poor service in this great city of many choices.
I met my mom for dinner at Tuscany. While I enjoyed my meal, I was so excited because I'd just read about Flirty's and couldn't wait to try them.
First, the good: The Red Velvet Cupcake was dee-lish. Moist and the cream cheese frosting was dead on.
Next, the bad: I can't eat coconut, but wanted to have the Pineapple Rum cupcake. So, I asked if they had more cream cheese frosting, or cupcakse with out frosting that I could get without coconut. You would've thought I asked them to make it stop raining. (I guess Molly's spoiled me). So, I came up with several suggestions for a first time customer and while they were ALL pretty reasonable, scrape the icing off, give me the cupcake and some icing on the side, every answer was 'we can't do that, we don't do that'.
Finally, the ugly: the young lady said 'we are preparing a big cupcake order'. I looked at her and said, 'and'? While I am getting 2 cupcakes today, I could be your big cupcake order tomorrow.' That stumped her, sometimes when I speak, it takes a second for things to sink in. So I asked her if she knew where Barrington was, she said, yes. I told her that I drive from there to go to Molly's.
I will never go to Flirty's again. Good cupcake, poor service. And something about spending $3+ on a cupcake, makes you want to enjoy the experience. Not just the cupcake. -

I was beyond excited when Flirty Cupcakes bought the location on Taylor and I think my hubby and I were there the second day they were opened! For the most part, we were very impressed. The cupcakes are yummy, but it does definitely depend of what kind you get. We have tried a variety of kinds and there were some we really liked and some we would pass on. I LOVE the store and have been excited for a reason to get to go and actually sit down for a cupcake in the shop!

I heard a lot about these cupcakes and one opened down the street from school so me and some friends decided to go. I wasn't really impressed with this place. The cupcakes are very small and are $3.25. I think they are over priced. I ordered the double chocolate and the mix tastes like it was from the cake mix you guy at the store. Will not be buying more. I prefer going to Sprinkles cupcakes.

Currently consuming the Curious George - the frosting is great! We love stopping by on our lunch break, we usually walk-out with a nutella, red velvet and a paradise island. Happy to have them in the neighborhood!

I only give it 3 stars because it is SUPER expensive. It's over $3 for one cupcake. I got a peanut butter and chocolate cupcake and it was delicious. My friend got a rum and coconut one. Hers was good, and I normally don't like coconut. She was a little snotty about hers though, but that was mostly cause she was pretending to be a judge on Cupcake Wars.

Today was the day that Taylor Street has been waiting for. What can you say about in my eye's one of the top (if not thee top) Cupcake makers ever to walk the shadows of Chicago land. I never get tired of their cupcakes nor do I mind that before I would have to wait on Sundays for the mobile van to bring the cupcakes to the Midway area for me to partake in my "paradise cupcake." I am beyond elated that the girls have landed near my job and that this place is prime location.
Seriously, today was the grand opening and these girls never cease to amaze me with their hard-work ethic. Not one moment did I see them slow down and not once did they not have a smile. I stood in the store for nearly twenty minutes and was amazed at how EVERY customer was treated as if they were the first. This, in my eyes shows the beginning of a beautiful experience that Taylor Street has yet to experience.
The facade on the outside with the canopies of brown and trims of pink all along still giving you vintage and old school with the upgraded "street lights" hanging in white as if from a 1940's school in the country. Amazing that this location was even found. I just think that the girls definitely hit a home-run with this spot. The subway tiles that create the counter that hold in glass the best confections this side of Paris really demonstrate the talent that Flirty is known for. With the wooden tables and green stools that show signs of being vintage, gosh you can't ask for anything more. In the very front of the "parlor" (I call it that because it reminds me of a nice waiting area), but more so of a classy 1940's bordello (in the best possible way), Its micro suede armchairs and vintage "box" end table are enough to make me go treasure hunting in grandma's garage. But I digress, since this is all about the cupcakes now. The wall of the establishment is of course (and smart move) exposed bricks to show the age of the building, but with a twist, everything here is modern! Towards the back you do have another little white table and chairs and an old fashioned station desk that looks like a piece of furniture from the 40's. Although I did notice only a sign that says "ladies rest room", I know for a fact that this is also a man's palace to stop the sweet tooth craves.
If your in the area, stop by and say hello to the girls and let them know you saw them on YELP and you love them. Trust me when I say, you will never be disappointed with Flirty Cupcakes, after all the name says it all.
Tiffany and Chris, I am impressed!Listed in: Dessert Must Have's in Chicago

I had a Groupon that expired, but the amount you actually paid for can still be used towards a purchase at the establishment. My friend and I were excited to try out the cupcakes, so we each picked out two. I told the cashier that I had an expired groupon so that she could apply the actual amount I paid for. She asked the manager or owner not sure who she was how she should process the expired groupon. The woman told me that I would have to pre order the four cupcakes prior to using the groupon because they only make a certain amount, which didn't make sense, I purchased the cupcakes that were in their display case. She did not except the groupon, but I could purchase the 4 cupcakes with cash, which absolutely made no sense! Since it was my friend's birthday and we had driven quite far, I purchased the 4 cupcakes which cost about $17.00. We tried them and to our dismay they sucked! Magnolia cupcakes are way better. I told all of my friends and colleagues to stay away from Flirty Cupcakes, too expensive and they are not good at all. The frosting tasted like the consistency of biting into a bar of butter! Yuck!

My friend and I stopped in on the grand opening of the Taylor Street location because we both live very close. Although the cupcakes have a good flavor, they were kind of on the dry side. We tried the PB&C, Devil In Disguise, Curious George and Creamy, Dreamy Chocolate. The Creamy, Dreamy Chocolate was the most moist. Perhaps it was a busy day that day, so we got a bad batch......

I am not really a cupcake person but had to try out Flirty Cupcakes as many of my friends rave about them. Well I visited the store today and purchased 4 cupcakes and a couple of brownies. OMG its the best thing I've ever tasted! My favorite is the Paradise Island which is a pineapple filled cupcake with coconut icing. The cupcakes are a little pricey but worth it. I will need to work out more often as I could eat these cupcakes all day!

I was very sad to see the BBQ place go and I was skeptical about another cupcake place in the neighborhood, although I have issues with the other one up Taylor street. But this place is...Amazing! I had the pineapple cupcake and hubby had a cinnamon apple. Both were amazing. Can't wait to go back to try the Nutella. The owners were so nice and the store is a cozy place to relax. We will back often.

Great little place with good atmo, good coffee, great pastries and breads. Open 9-8. A friendly staff, and warm homey environment make flirty cupcakes a lovely little joint for a treat. You can do custom orders for later or just pop in to see what the offering of the day is. Just plain great place, WITH NO TIME LIMIT ON YOUR LINGER.

I am a fan of the Flirty Truck and had been eagerly anticipating the opening of Flirty Cupcakes Dessert Garage and finally had a chance to stop in today. From the moment I walked in the door I was impressed with everything from the decor to the smiling face of the girl at the counter to the sight of the BEAUTIFUL cupcakes and other treats in the glass case and on the counter. It was crowded which is a good sign for a brand new establishment. I think a lot of the customers are fans of the truck as well because they were knowledgeable buyers. The cupcakes are reasonably priced and they have a nice selection of other baked goods. I got a Chunky Monkey and an apple cupcake as well as a mini blueberry pie. The seating was comfortable and the store has a very cute vibe. Everything was delicious and I can't wait to go back whenever I want instead of having to find the truck. Can't wait to try a milk shot as well.
Flirty is a MUST STOP for cupcake fans in Chicago and a beautiful entry into what will sure to be a very successful store. -
Review from Adam H.
Went here for dessert on my girl's birthday. She loves cupcakes, she's kind of a cupcake snob actually, and she wanted to finally check this place out. When we entered we were greeted by a laid back, happy, informative employee. He had no issues describing each kind of cupcake to us in depth even though he probably does that too many times a day. My wife and I decided on a mini cake sampler of four to take home and then two cupcakes each to eat in the store. Sitting in one of the comfortable chairs in the hip feeling seating area we took our first bites. My first cupcake was their McDreamy and it was awesome. A moist chocolate explosion with a cream cheese frosting. My favorite and a reason to come back here alone. My second was their Raspberry Stole My Heart. Again a great cupcake that was chocolate with a raspberry cream cheese filling. Not as intense in flavor as the McDreamy but still great. I love my cream cheese. My wife had the PB & C, which is great for anyone who loves the combo of peanut butter and chocolate, and she also had the Curious George which is a chocolate banana cupcake with caramel frosting. My wife was't crazy about the Curious George. She didn't like the slightly salty tasting frosting and claimed the banana flavor in the cake was too subtle. I liked it. I dug the sweet and salty ish of the frosting and enjoyed the fact that the banana wasn't too overwhelming. It worked for me. But it didn't for her and she got up and told the employee that. The nice man not only gave her a second Curious George cupcake to see if the banana flavor was more prominent in the new one but he also went and talked to one of the bakers in the kitchen about it. Out comes the baker apologizing for the lack of banana flavor and then gives my wife a tasty banana nut maple frosting cupcake to make up for it. All this was unexpected and really unnecessary but it made my wife's night. It just goes to show that this place cares about their great product as well as the people who come in to enjoy it.
