Review from Cherie K.
I went to Flirt for the first time during the East Whyte avenue passport event. I did have an opportunity to try some cupcakes at the Yelp Elite event prior to the passport event, and was delighted!
The promotion for the passport was 2-for-1, and who could possibly say no to 2-for-1 cupcakes? My kids were with me so were quite excited to choose from the many flavours. We purchased the following flavours: black forest (it had cherries in the middle of it), oreo (oreo inside), red velvet (my fave), chocolate with pink icing for my little girl, and peanut butter (for my hubby). All flavours were so tasty.
The store itself is very modern, the cupcakes are displayed and pretty platters and the staff were very friendly. I would definitely go back for more! -

I finally got around to trying the cupcakes at Flirt. I tried both a chocolate and a vanilla cupcake for comparison. I've been pretty severely disappointed by the other cupcake places on/near Whyte and Flirt failed to change that.
In Flirt's favor, their cupcakes did not taste like grease or shortening. Fatty flavors pretty much ruin a cupcake for me so this was a good thing.
I did find that the flavors fell a bit flat, though. If I eat a vanilla cupcake, I expect to taste vanilla, not nothing. The chocolate cupcake tasted kind of like watered down chocolate. The icing was crunchy. It tasted like the icing I whip up at home when I am too lazy to make "real" icing. It just tastes like milk, icing sugar and butter mixed together. Don't get me wrong, you can get really nice smooth buttercream icing with those three ingredients but you need to whip it for about an hour. The consistency of theirs was achievable with five minutes and a wooden spoon.
Overall, I would rather buy cupcakes at Safeway or Sobeys, because they taste about the same and are much cheaper. I'm not saying the cupcakes at Flirt are inedible, they're just pretty subpar for a "specialty" store and overpriced for what they are. I'd eat one for free, definitely. -

I ordered cupcakes from here for a bridal shower I was hosting. The wedding colours are black, red and white. I really wanted something special for the bride and the 25 guests. I had originally ordered red velvet cupcakes with Oreo on the top. I then switched my order to have no Oreo, and black fondant stars instead. I called to make sure this was possible, and was ensured that it was very possible, but there would be an extra charge. I even called back later that day to make sure they were clear on my change, and that it would work out. Well, one thing I know working in customer service, is that you ALWAYS make sure to actually listen!
My husband went the morning of the shower and picked them up. He told me the workers went into a huge explanation about why the stars were blue and not black. I don't care about why, I don't even care they didn't work out. However, I do expect to be called and told that it can't work out and doesn't look good, so I can choose something else. Men typically don't care about cupcake presentation, but even he noticed they looked sloppy and the stars were blue.... and they also put an Oreo on top which I had called twice to make sure it wasn't part of the order. They looked really tacky and cheap. $50 for 24 mini cupcakes.... they should look professional, not like they are from Safeway. (no offence Safeway!).
The icing was crispy and the the cupcake was dry. There were 21 left when the shower was over!! Apparently they didn't even look good enough to eat! No one even wanted to take any home with them, and we ended up throwing them out. That is totally unheard of for us, as we love our sweets and it would be appalling to throw out cupcakes.
If your store specializes in making ONE thing, it should be pretty special!! It should also taste really good too.
Very disappointing, and I feel extremely ripped off. Everyone at the shower knows where they were from, and not to go there if they are hosting something and want a special touch.
There are other great cupcake places in Edmonton that deserve the hype this place gets. BIG thumbs down :( -

Georgia brown! Brown sugar cinnamon cake with vanilla cream cheese icing.

I picked up a half-dozen cupcakes here last Friday and was not disappointed. The Wild on Whyte (strawberry buttercream icing on chocolate cake) is especially good.
The only downside for Flirt is that Crave opened a location just down the street, and in my opinion Crave has tastier, more decadent icing. Crave also piles more of it on. I might be biased though seeing as how I'm from Calgary and so is Crave. So try them both and judge for yourself. -

Edmonton has a number of cupcake stores, but Flirt will always be my number 1. I am NOT a fan of very sweet cakes, or too much icing, and Flirt has exactly what I like - a nice, fluffy, fresh, cupcake, without gobs of sweet icing. Minis, full-sized, it doesn't matter to me, but I definitely have my favorites - Fury (on white or chocolate, with a peppermint icing), the Heartbreaker (I think it's cream cheese icing, on red velvet cake), and a couple of others (the names escape me right now).
As others have mentioned, the longer you wait in the day, the less selection you have. That can be a bit annoying if you arrive at the end of the day, on the other hand, you know what you're buying is actually baked fresh (I won't name names, but I know of another store that FREEZES their cupcakes - they don't bake fresh daily! No thank you!). I'll usually pick up a 6-pack of regulars, or a 12-pack in the minis, and....umm....I've been known to eat a 12-pack of the minis in one sitting (it was once, and I couldn't help myself, they were just soooooo good, and no one else was around).
My name is Gord, and I am addicted to Flirt Cupcakes.Listed in: The most awesome places…

When E-town's Community Manager, Brittany told me that Flirt had Flavours of the Month at Flirt, I thought it sounded like fun. When she said January's flavour was Chai, I believe my reaction was a gasp, followed quickly by me demanding to get these fine little cakes.
In the middle of the week, later in the day, it looked like Flirt's feasts had been sufficiently depleted, but a number of those Chai cupcakes were still standing. The cake, moist. The icing, buttery. The taste - hands down, best Chai dessert I've partaken in (outside of my own chocolate chai truffles of course). But I digress... What I really liked is that Flirt's cakes look homemade. And they're the right size - just big enough to feel like you're indulging, but not so large that you feel ill after eating a whole one. And yes, I ate mine in one big swoop, all the icing and all.Listed in: Where to Eat in Edmonton

I have to agree with others..lukewarm on the cupcakes here at flirt. The sufficiently sweet- Sweet Georgia Brown was just that. Nothing about it stood out. My friends each tried a different flavour and at the end we all agreed that we've made tastier and more elaborate creations in our own kitchens, which isn't saying much as we have no training other than following a recipe. I wonder if Flirt hires professional bakers or if they just jumped on the cupcake bandwagon with everyone else? I'll give a couple stars as the girl at the counter was nice and how can anyone feel that bad after eating a cupcake? Still though, unless these cakes were cheaper than those I can whip up myself or pick up at Sobeys, I wouldn't be back.

Although I haven't really been a huge cupcake kinda a guy, just the three or four cupcakes that I've had at Flirt has converted me. No more conversion practices need to be adopted - I'm a FAN!
From now on, whenever I want to flirt with myself, I'll show up at Flirt Cupcakes! The yumminess of the cupcake lies (for me) in the quality of the cake itself and after trying Fuss a couple of times, I tend to feel that Flirt's got the best thing - right! The cake!
As for the flavors, they have a variety of them, the names of which I can't even pretend to know. What I love is that they have a "Flavor of month" thing going, which is really kinda awesome. I have to still try (and I have a couple of days left) their cherry bomb cupcake, which is the flavor of this month! Three types of cakes: vanilla, chocolate and red velvet. I like red velvet a lot, but my fav is the chocolate cake.
I also love the fact that they always have something cute topping their cupcake. Obviously on top of the icing. Like "The Flirt" has a small square of chocolate candy and another one of theirs actually has a tiny bear cookie on top .. very cute!! :-)
The shop is small with maybe 3 - 4 tables. But it's still great to come here and get a cupcake to walk with!Listed in: Eat, Love, Pray Locally, East of the tracks

Tried out Flirt's downtown location this week and can't say I'll be going again. The cupcakes were just so-so and the icing was hard! NOT worth the almost $7.00 for two. I'd like to say maybe it was a one-off, but I really don't want to spend the money to find out. :-( Too bad.

I am not a cake fan or a cupcake fan...until I had a cupcake from flirt cupcake.
There are cupcake shops EVERYWHERE. It's like a bunch of people just decided to get together and plot down a bunch of cupcake shops.
There is only one type of cake I actually like. Velvet cake and flirt cupcake not only had the velvet cake but they made me fall in love with all their cupcakes.
The icing wasn't overly sweet like a lot of cupcakes i've had in my days and they stay moist in the fridge even after 3 days! I was impressed and hooked. -

got a sweet tooth craving? Flirt is an EXCELLENT place to find the fix!
These are some seriously fancy cupcakes: Each flavour is uniquely decorated with a great name, adding an extra level of enjoyment to the experience.
The cupcakes also often have special little treats attached, such as the cookies and cream cupcake (which has an oreo baked into it). There are also vegan friendly options for those with more restricted diets.
that said, you've got to have a serious sweet tooth to eat Flirt cupcakes. I love my cupcakes, but these are just a little TOO sweet for me - they make my teeth tingle from the sugar overload, although otherwise they are great - moist, with high quality icing and lots of interesting flavours to choose from!Listed in: Whyte Ave & Old Strath favs

I became the hero of my New Year's Eve party when I showed up with mini cupcakes from Flirt! Baked fresh that morning, I picked up a combo pack with a dozen minis, with flavours like red velvet and double chocolate. (It's just too bad I didn't stop by earlier in the day, or I could have picked up their flavour of the month for December: Candy Cane!)
Cupcakes were soft and moist, and the icing is just the best! I like all of the creative flavours Flirt bakes up and the staff here are very patient while you make up your mind. (What? It's just easy to get distracted by all the pretty colours!) New Year's resolutions aside, I will definitely be coming back here! -

There is something flirty and sexy about a pretty little cupcake that tastes as good as it looks! I am so glad that cupcakes are trending again. There are three cupcake shops in Edmonton, but Flirt is the closest to me, so now I can indulge whenever I want without having to break out the Betty Crocker in my own kitchen and eat a dozen at a time before they even cool!
The thing with cupcakes is that they've got to taste amazing, or they're just glorified pretty packaging - icing on top of disappointment...and calories.
But these are delicious and I tried several to corroborate this fact. The lemon icing with coconut shavings is to die for and the cake is moist and melt-in-your-mouth amazing! I also love Cookies & Cream, Orange Creamsicle and the Sweet Georgia Brown with cinnamon cake and cream cheese icing.
Remember when birthday parties and Valentine's days were ALL about the cupcakes?! Flirt is the kind of place that makes you feel like a kid in a candy & cake shop again.
You can order one or order a box. They also sell minis and take large orders for weddings and other events. The cupcakes are baked fresh every day but they go quickly, so if you're Jonesing for a cake and icing fix try to go early in the day so you get your pick.Listed in: Gotta Sweet Tooth?

I saw on Twitter that Flirt was giving 100% of the proceeds of their cupcakes sold on Sunday to charity, so I pushed my Hubs out the door, and we went to give the little cakes a try.
When we went in, the man behind the counter told us that his ovens had been down all morning, but he had just finished a fresh batch. If we didn't mind waiting while he frosted them, we could have a still warm cupcake.
I didn't mind waiting at all!
We each got a Sweet Georgia Brown - cinnamon & brown sugar cake with cream cheese icing - still warm from the oven, and it was very good. Moist and tasty and not too sweet, and at $2.95 each, cheaper than a lot of their competitors.
There was also organic, fair trade coffee on hand for cutomers.
Its doubly nice to find a place that not only makes a yummy cupcakes, but also cares about the world around them. -

I had my first cupcake experience. I purchased Sweet Georgia Brown, Cookies and Cream, Fantasy Island, and Carrot Cake. They were all good and moist except the carrot was a little dry. I would go there again. They were not too heavy or sweet.

I didn't like this place at all. The icing isn't very good and the cupcakes are too heavy for my taste, and really didn't taste all that great either. I will not be going here again.

I remember coming here a while ago and the cupcakes being decent, but this recent experience I had was blech ! I got the Marie Antoinette and the Heartbreaker, both cream cheese my favorite... ! First bite into the Marie Antoinette, yuck, the icing tasted like pure plastic. The cake made up for it a little bit but it was still a bit too dry for my liking. I only ended up eating half because the icing really threw me off. Then onto the Heartbreaker. This was much better. The red velvet cake was moist and soft and the icing was also a bit better but still had a weird plastic-like taste to it. I'll still try it yet again because I'm really hoping this was just a bad day for them.. every one else has raving reviews why not me !

It looks like Edmonton is finally catching on to the latest food trend of cupcakes! Just recently opened up on Whyte Ave, Flirt Cupcakes will satisfy your sweet tooth cravings. Not to be confused with Fuss Cupcakes, which is by the Funky Pickle further down the street.
Flirt does catering for weddings and other events, and you can pre-order through their website. It's a great place to stop by for a quick treat, but they don't have much room for seating yet, only two tables at the moment.
They bake their cupcakes fresh every morning and afternoon, and it shows in the taste! I had the chocolate Marie Antoinette with blue icing, and it was heavenly. The icing wasn't too sweet, and the texture of the cake was just right -- soft and moist that it wasn't dry and crumbly, but not too moist that it was gooey. My one thing is that the chocolate cake could have been richer. It didn't taste chocolatey enough to me. But other than that, this place is great!
They have eight flavours to choose from, and a daily special. Don't go on a Monday, because they're closed then.Listed in: A Walk Thru Whyte

I have got to get my sweet tooth under control or I am going to have some serious problems.
Flirt Cupcakes is the only place in Edmonton that sells only cupcakes (from what I can tell). They have a huge selection of cupcakes here of all different flavors. I love the fury and the coffee date. They do cater special events which is really cool. I think they would be a hit at weddings.
You must try this place at least once in your life. -

I was very excited to learn that Edmonton is catching on to the cupcake craze as an alternative to our favorite donut shop. I went to Flirt at 5:30 pm on a Thursday and found them completely cleaned out except for two cupcakes! I learned that they bake fresh in the mornings and afternoons and when they are gone, they are gone! Thankfully there were two stragglers left and I took one cake while my mom took the other. I had a coffee flavored cake which was so moist and delicious and covered with smooth icing. Total cost was about $3, which isn't too bad considering the quality. They also will do special orders for birthdays, weddings and any other events. They also have a small seating area if you would like to sit and eat your cupcake over a cup of coffee.

I was surprised to learn that Edmonton has a place that sells cupcakes exclusively. I do not really have a sweet tooth but I do like treating myself to some desert once in a while. Cupcakes are always a good choice, especially with a good cup of coffee.
Flirt Cupcakes is a rather tiny place located on White avenue that sells amazingly good cupcakes. Each is priced at $2.95 which,I think, is rather expensive considering their size. You get two or three bites out of each. I believe that Flirt charges more because the cupcakes are a little fancier than the ones you would get at local Safeway, Sobey's and other grocery chains. I had Fantasy Island with lemon icing, while my husband chose Coffee Date with coffee frosting. Both were moist and reach tasting, and not too sweet. While in the store, I counted about ten other flavour varieties.
The sign in the store's window says "Proudly Serving 100% Certified Organic" which must mean that Flirt bakes their cupcakes with only organic ingredients (which again explaines the higher price). If this is the case, then Flirt cupcakes are oficially a guilt-free pleasure for me. -

This place is dangerous because every looks so good that you just want to spend the whole day trying each kind of cupcake they have. If you are brave enough to go in and have the will power to try some of their yummy cupcakes then allow me to make some suggestions to help make your cupcake experience all that more enjoyable. Well if you are like me, a plain and traditional girl, then you too would enjoy The Flit cupcake. You can choose between vanilla or chocolate but I recommend the vanilla. If you like a something with a hit of cinnamon then you would really like the Sweet Georgia Brown cupcake that comes with cream cheese icing; it's really tasty! My friend really likes the Fury, a peppermint flavored one (well the butter-cream icing anyways) it also comes with a mint chocolate stick; I'm sure that's the reason why she likes it so much. If you like coffee flavored cakes then you'll really love the Coffee Date; which has coffee flavored frosting and chocolate covered coffee beans!
This is a cute place and if you have some kind of party like a birthday or even a wedding you should give this place a call or at least sample of their very yummy cupcakes! Their staff is pretty nice and very friendly also.
