Review from Brad Z.
The service was well orchestrated and our server was awesome- helpful and friendly without being overbearing.
The location is great too--down on the waterfront with an outdoor patio.
The Mussells were delicious and a second helping of bread was ordered just to sop up the flavorful broth left behind the Negril Mussells. The fish and chips was perfect--the light batter was made with seltzer water to give a light and bubbly texture to coat the flaky haddock. The fresh-cut fries with local potatoes were just right. The strip steak was also quite tasty and cooked perfectly.
For PEI, the hint of sophistication of Flex Mussells suggests a more urban influence...perhaps explained by it's sister location in NYC. Definately a well deserved treat when visiting Charlottetown. -
Review from Diana J.
This is my favorite place for mussels (at the world's best island for mussels). There are so many varieties (the traditional butter, wine, shallots to a Thai version with lemongrass and coconut milk--and everything in between.) Seven of us had all landed in C'town from different locations for our vacation and we went right to Flex. They were full and we did not have reservations, but they managed to fit us in.
Don't miss it! -
Review from Ian W.
After strolling along Charlottetown's harbourfront, we had lunch at Flex Mussels located at Peake's Wharf. We were the first diners to arrive and decided to sit outside on the covered deck area with a decennt view of the water. Flex Mussels offers a seafood menu with some land lover items. For an appetizer, they offer mussels prepared 23 different ways ($12-$16 per pound), now that's flexing mussels, eh. For starrters, we decided to try the Peking Mussels ($16), which were out of this world great! These mussels were cooked in garlic, ginger, black beans, house made bbq duck, scallions, mushrooms, wine. The complementary bread with butter was served cool and chewy, great for dipping in the mussel broth. The service was a bit slow from the kitchen end, the time between the mussels and the lunch entrees to be served was 25 minutes. It seemed like it took a while for the deep fryer to heat up. The lunch crowd was coming in as we were being served.
Anyways, for lunch entrees (served with house fries), the Pear, Bacon, and Gouda Sandwich ($10) served on toasted baguette was very good. The Traditional Lobster Roll was decent, which had small chunks of lobster, celery, the right amount of mayo served on a toasted New England hot dog roll. The House Fries were excellent, which were house cut shoestring fries made from Russet Burbanks and fried golden brown to perfection, worth the wait. We passed on dessert (white choc cheesecake, pecan pie, flourless choc torte, lemon meringue) since we needed to head off to another adventure on the island,
Overall, we had a very good lunch for two, which was on the pricey side. The total check with GST & PST came out to about $51.98, before tip.
