Once again I walked in with a toddler...

The guy who helped me looked at the shoes I bought in the previous post and was able to tell me how we needed to adjust my shoes based on how they were worn out on the bottom.  We tried 4 different shoes and he had me run on the treadmill to see how I was stepping.

Now I have great new shoes and I can totally tell the difference in my stride... he was right totally right!  Some of the pain I was experiencing is going away!

    Love this place.

While training progressed for an upcoming half-marathon, I realized that the minimalist shoes I was wearing were going to be a little to minimal for the mileage I'd be racking up.  I stopped in to Fleet Feet knowing what I wanted (New Balance Road Minimus) and they came through big time.  After describing what I wanted to the footwear specialist, she warned that she didn't think they had any NB's in stock, but she'd check.  After quite some digging, she managed to find a pair in my size as well as a couple other options if I didn't like the NB's.

This is truly your one-stop shop for any shoes, gear, or advice on running.  Everyone was extremely helpful and friendly.  My only qualm, and it's a small one, is their selection of men's running gear was not really my style.  Perhaps I'm just not hardcore enough, but it seemed like most of their items were plain black and the others were wild colors with even wilder patterns.  Just not my style, I guess.  But overall, outstanding experience here and I'll be back once I'm craving some new runners.

First things first. I'm not a runner.

I never really have been, and for a time people who ran marathons confused me. I mean...you actually WANT to run 10 miles in the blazing sun? Are you insane?!

But...I'm coming around. My boyfriend recently signed up for a marathon in June, and in preparation, he's beginning to jog and work out. He convinced me we should run together, and so it was that we came to Fleet Feet to get me some good ol' running shoes. Or something. I wasn't really sure what to expect.

Well, expect Awesomeness! People here were ready and willing to help us out, and Rachel asked me several questions about what I'm looking for, any injuries, etc. She watched me run on a treadmill to see how my feet work and then suggested shoes around that. She let me try on 3 and then everyone watched me awkwardly jog around the store. I picked out a pair and then just happened to buy 2 pairs of socks, heel insoles, and a jacket. Rachel also fitted my boyfriend for shoes and since they didn't have his size, they are ordering a pair for him.

Fleet Feet also hosts fun runs during the week and I want to try those out once I get my jogging under control. They also sell tons of clothing, socks, water bottles, ipod holders...whatever you need to make sure you don't look as awkward as me while running.

They are a tad expensive, but I didn't deduct a star only because of the amazing service we received. I can't wait to come back.

Once I was helped, the service at Fleet Feet is unparalleled!  The woman helping me was knowledgeable and fit me with great, albeit ugly, shoes.  I actually learned that I had been running with shoes a half size too small.

I'm giving Fleet Feet 4 stars instead of 5 because I had to wait quite awhile to be helped (the store was crowded), and I think they could carry some more affordable running apparel.

Although I prefer to grab my flats online, Fleet Feet is a great quick-stop place should one be in need of some general necessities, tips, or training shoes.

The staff is always nice, and very helpful with everything they have in stock; someone would probably sell you a wall if you looked at it for long enough.

Virgin runner here! With all these food reviews, it's about time I get some exercise in to keep my blood running and heart pounding to keep up with my foodie life. We've got a Precor treadmill at home and it's collecting dust.  BF is starting up running and my daughter joined Girls on the Run at school with a team 5k in June!  Friend lent me her Couch to 5k and first thing i need are shoes. BF highly recommended Fleet Feet on Lincoln Ave. He had a great experience at their former location. He was not wrong. I had to wait for family and at least 5 different people approached me. Loved that! Ben was my shoe stylist and he was fantastic! Gave me lots of tips for new runners, knew about the Couch to 5k, watched me to run to check out footwork - I'm NEUTRAL (adding this to my "runner vocab). Decided on some Pumas that felt like air.  Jason was really patient w/ my 2 kids, sizes 4.50 and 6.50.
Join their Fleet Feet program (free), every $150 spent, you earn $15 credit - expires in 3 months so take note. Thanks Fleet Feet - I look forward to a long "running" relationship with you.

I can't say enough good things about Fleet Feet-- for either location.  Since I've already reviewed the Piper's location, I don't need to say much.

Why is Fleet Feet so important to Chicago?

    1. Inspiration

As a company, they do SUCH a fine job of keeping their customers motivated.  They consistently offer a number of free programs for education and action, and their social media musings are always a must for me in my daily reading.

Their motto alone has inspired me: Running changes everything.

    Absolutely true.

    2. Knowledge

I absolutely trust the knowledgeable staff on all of their products, whether shoes, apparel, or other merchandise (like the Garmin Forerunner 610 I have my eye on).  These are runners who know what they're talking about and they really want products to work for you, so you can also excel.

    --

If you're new to running, this store is a must. you can't buy shoes based solely on their color-- go here, get properly fitted, and watch your training regimen turn around.

    Go Fleet Feet!

I know spending $85-$115 on running shoes that will last about 6 months (if that) is pricy and can probably be done cheaper at the Sports Authority or Dick's Sporting Goods, but I keep coming back to Fleet Feet.

After my first summer of running, I had some tightness in the back of my knee. The shoe experts at Fleet Feet watched my stride and provided me three different shoe options. After I made my decision, I stuck with that shoe for the indoor running season and my leg felt much better. Since then, I've always come back for great service and excellent selection.

It helps that the frequent customer program usually provides me with $25 off my shoes to help cut the price a bit!

Preview: There will be free education/entertainment tips ahead.  Keep reading.

So as you've probably figured, you can buy shoes and gear here.  The staff at Fleet Feet can fit you for running shoes an analyze your gait on a treadmill or outdoors and provide advice on all sorts of clothing and accessories to buy.  I've never found the staff anything less than super helpful and nice - even to super runner newbies like myself.  Stuff's expensive here, but let's keep our running stores in business and buy local.  Besides, you're getting some nice extras for that bonus scratch and improperly fitted shoes are going to cost you more in the long run (as in, doctor's visits, physical therapy, and so on).

If you haven't been to Fleet Feet in the last few weeks or so, you might not be aware that they recently moved to a new two story store a little bit farther north on Lincoln.  The new store is way better - it's nowhere near as crowded as the old location and has a nice, spacious seminar room on the second floor.  Which leads me to this point....

Do you people have any idea how many awesome free events Fleet Feet hosts?

They do.  I was intimidated by these for awhile, but I'm going to fill you in so you don't have to be.  Fleet Feet hosts free "fun runs" on Monday and Wednesday nights and Saturday mornings.  You  have the option to run 3-6 miles and there really, really are runners of all abilities.  You aren't going to get dusted and left to fend for yourself on the lonely streets of Lincoln Square.  I promise.  The Monday and Saturday runs are co-ed and the Wednesdays are for women only.  And we women luck out here.  For "Women's Night" you log the miles you run and can earn shirts, jackets and gift certificates.  Word on the street is that the last run of every month is double miles.  The first run of every month usually includes a seminar after the run, often with raffles and giveaways.   Sorry guys, no free stuff for you.

Fleet Feet also hosts free Historic Runs where a local historian leads you on a route stopping frequently to fill you in on local historic factoids.  I went to the recent Lincoln Square/Bowmanville run and it was fascinating.  Even non runners would enjoy these - the pace is very, very slow and there are frequent stops for the talks.  The farthest distance we ran at once was a half mile during the run I attended.

In addition to all that, Fleet Feet often has random seminars on running form, running in cold weather, triathalons, etc.  And for awhile they had free Sunday morning yoga classes (not sure if that's going to continue at the new location.  Edit: it is, 9 am 'til Dec.5th, 10 am after that).  The website, facebook page, and email list keep you up to date on all the great free stuff they have going on.

So now you know.  Go run.

Two things to note: 1) I don't run.  Not in real life or in a gym.  But I have recently taken up Zumba (instead of my usual elliptical).  2) My feet are exceedingly small.  At Fleet Feet, I was measured as a 4...with a bit of a width to them.

So with my new higher impact work-outs, my Target kids gym shoes were not cutting it at all.  My feet ached.  While I was working out and especially when it was over.  I knew Fleet Feet was meant for runners - for serious, dedicated runners.  But my small feet need special attention, and I had heard that the customer service/fitting was really great here.  So I took a risk.

When Gregg (shout out to Gregg) first measured my foot, he seemed a bit surprised that I was really as small as I claimed.  Then surprise quickly turned to dismay.  He warned me several times that the shoes were meant for forward motion and I needed cross-trainers - but he also admitted I was going to have a hard time finding fit anywhere I went.  So he brought me some shoes to try on.  And they fit - and they supported my arches!  It felt like I was wearing a real shoe!  Plus, they were children's shoes and therefore were fairly cheap.

Gregg also recommended other stores and brands for my needs.  Specific stores and how I needed to go about shopping at those stores (declaring I'm an "under", asking for personal attention, etc).

This all happened today, so hopefully the shoes are amazing during my actual work out.  If not though, I have thirty days to return them (as long as they haven't gotten muddy, Fleet Feet takes the tack that you can't know if the fit is good until you wear them.  Also, there is a treadmill in the store to try out the shoes).

Big fan.  Longest review ever.  My apologies.  Congrats on if you made it all the way to the end!

I am a huge fan of Fleet Feet Sports!

Now, I am not a very experienced runner, which was very evident by the fact I have never worn shoes that actually fit.   That changed the moment I walked in to Fleet Feet.  They measured my feet and analyzed my gait to find a selection of shoes that would support and protect my feet as I train for my first marathon.  After trying on a few pairs, I found my new set of running shoes.

My selection was not cheap by any means, but you truly get what you pay for when it comes to running shoes.   What made Fleet Feet stand out was the customer service.  Beyond the customized fitting, the associate walked me through all of the items I may need during my marathon training journey.   He was very informative and helpful while not trying to just sell me on extras.

Overall, a great experience.  I will certainly be back for my next pair of shoes prior to the marathon.

My experience with all shoe stores have been .... lukewarm.
I retract.. Running Away in Deerfield is great.

I had high hopes for Fleet Feet since they host & sponsor a ton of events in Chicago land area, but service at this Lincoln Square location was sub par. I was excited to put my xmas gift card to good use & buy a new pair of running shoes.. my old Brooks were torn and should've been tossed months ago.

When I entered store, there were 2 workers in front register and another worker by the merchandise section. I stood there for about 5 mins waiting to talk to someone, but none of 'em greeted me. AWKWARD.. I took it upon myself to grab the fella lounging by apparel to ask him 'bout my new pair of kicks. Agenda: To test this guy out and see what kind of shoes he would pair me up with. Years ago, another running store paired me up with running shoes for pronation, and it lead to knee and ankle injuries. I went to an sports athletic trainer in college while I was rehabbing, and discovered that what I really needed was a shoe w/cushion and support. I had no problem with pronation.

This guy put me on the treadmill and watched me jog for couple mins and said I have a good gait and stride. He paired me up w/shoes w/cushion and stability :) Right on.

My ultimate problem w/shoes is size. My itty bitty feet is a pain in my arse. Size 4-5. Not many gym shoes carry small sizes. He came out w/3 pairs of shoes.. Saucony in size 3 (GIRLS???), mizuno (size 6), Asics (5 1/2).
I've worn kids gym shoes in past (Nike Shock) and they are made and fit differently than adults. They come out wider (dunno why), and fit is all wrong. If I was 16, it would've been a different story.  I put on the Saucony and took 'em off right away. Mizuno in size 6... not sure what he was thinking. He even measured my feet (size 4).. sigh.
I love Asics and have worn 5 1/2 before so I tried it on. It wasn't bad, a lil big but I jogged around for a bit and I was pretty content. Sizing with Asics isn't the store's problem, it's the Asic company. They have discontinued size 5 in many models. :(  So I just sucked it up and bought this pair.

I'm not sure if i'll be back to this location, I've had better experience at Piper Alley location. Workers who like their job and want to take care of their customers. Yes..I'm a little bitter. Gimme a break. A good shoe is pivotal for proper workout regime.

I continue to adore fleet feet. Everyone is always so incredibly nice and knowledgeable. I came in here the other day for some compression socks, and the lady assisting me was over the top beyond helpful, in a good way. She measured me, let me try on different sizes and colors, and reassured me that the $60 I was about to drop on SOCKS, was well worth it. They have a great rewards program and their staff is very customer-focused. Love them, and always look forward to coming back for more running gear! Whoever said running was an inexpensive form of exercise was misinformed...

Shopping for good exercise shoes is like shopping for a good bra: 95% of people wear them all the time and have never bought a pair that actually fit.  Ladies know exactly what I'm talking about.  If you're smart, you'll realize you need to pay a bit more money to actually go somewhere that will do a proper fitting so you can start wearing something that fits.  I started exercising regularly a little over a year ago and I was using the same old, worn-out walking shoes that I bought about three years ago to do all types of exercise (running, other cardio, walking, etc.).  Not a good idea!!!

I decided to go to Fleet Feet because I've read a lot of reviews detailing their extensive fitting process.  My experience was absolutely fabulous!  I waited about 10 minutes to actually sit down with an employee for the fitting, but it was well worth it.  He asked me a lot of questions about the type of running and other exercise that I do and then started the fitting with a foot measurement and a base pair of shoes.

I was able to walk/run around (inside and outside the store) so that the fitter could analyze my stride and pull pairs of shoes that would fit me the best.  I explained that I have lower back problems and flat feet, so I really need a shoe that will provide a ton of arch support so I don't herniate another disc in my back.

He pulled about five pairs and we got to work.  I walked/ran in each pair of shoes to really see how they felt and fit my foot.  After some discussion and more jogging, I finally decided on a pair of awesome Saucony cross-trainers.  I enjoy jogging and running, but I also wanted a pair of shoes that would be ideal for the gym and walking as well.  I definitely got a pair of shoes that cushion my feet nicely so I have less pressure on my lower back.

If you haven't been fitted, you really need to get in here.  All of the employees are knowledgeable (since they're runners themselves) and they know how to find exactly what you're looking for.  I asked 1,000 question and the fitter didn't seem annoyed at all, which is nice if I'm paying for a good pair of shoes to wear for the next year.

I can't wait until I win the lottery. Everything in this store is so darn cute and I want to buy everything in my size. And every color as well. And on my salary I can barely afford one little top, let alone everything else I want to buy.

The selection isn't terribly huge, but what they do have is simply adorable, for women at least. I can't decide between the cute running skirt with leggings - I'd be turning heads as I speed by, or the Prana pants that I could wear to yoga or wall climbing and back to the street and no one would be the wiser that I was working out, or the 2-piece Tyr swimsuit that's a clone of the one that died earlier this year from wearing it out so much.

I came here for the Wednesday night Chick run (that's Women for you PC conscious folks among us) and did 3 miles. Whoo! I could even go up to 6 miles once I feel ambitious enough. I'll be back for that.

And the cute clothes once I win the lottery will help me get back in the door with my credit card. Does this mean I have to start playing the lottery to win said winnings?

I came here a couple of weeks ago for some new running shoes. I have heard great things about Fleet Feet so I wanted to give them a try. I also recently took up running as a form of exercise and I wanted to get the best shoes possible to avoid injuries and awful shin splints.

I came in on a Friday afternoon on my way home from work. I had to wait about 10 minutes for someone to give me a hand. The staff in this store are very helpful and patient. When it was my turn, the girl who fitted me measured my foot sitting and standing. She also ran her hands over my foot to see what shoe works best for me.

I had to run up and down Lincoln Avenue during happy hour, note The Daily Bar & Grill was right across the street. So I kind of felt like an ass running up and down in various gym shoes as people enjoyed drinks on the patio. Just beware of the outdoor jogging if you are weirded out by that. I also purchased a pair of inserts to go in my new shoes. I was a pronounced runner on my left foot but now that is corrected. The staff has you running outside so they can observe how you run and correct any pronouncing.

After I found my perfect fit, I was ready to check out. Some how I ended up buying 3 pairs of running socks and they were about $14 a pop my bill was over $200 for the shoes, socks and the orthic inserts!! The girl was also trying to push orthic inserts for my dress shoes and to check out new sports bras. Um, I just dropped 2 hundos so I will have to wait on other stuff. Like I said before, the staff is really helpful but I hate how they try to add on more things to buy.

I have been trying my new shoes out for about a week and a half and they are the best! The inserts really make a difference and they will last about a year. With regular use, running shoes have to be replaced every 6 months. Check out Fleet Feet if you need new running shoes. You will get the best fit for your feet and you will have better runs!

I'm new to this whole "running" thing. I wouldn't really call myself a "runner" yet, more like "one who runs occaisionaly" (a marked improvement from my previous status as "one who will only run when chased"). So for now, I don't really need to spend $120 on a super cute high tech moisture wicking running ensemble. No, my ratty sweats and $5 old navy tank will work just fine.

I do plan to buy some good running shoes here though. While I can get away with cheapo running clothes, I know better than to mess with the quality of my shoes. From what I have witnessed, the staff really seems to care about getting you into the right shoe. I've watched them spend 15 minutes explaining different shoes and measuring a customer's feet. Seems like pretty good service to me.

I've been coming for the Wednesday night "Fun Runs" and slowly learning that the term is not an oxymoron as I previously thought. I think what I really like about this store is that in addition to caring about making money off their customers, like all stores, they also seem to actually care about their customers and about running. Along with the fun runs they also offer free seminars (with free food), free injury screenings, and when you rack up enough mileage at the fun runs, you get free stuff!

I liked Nick, the very patient customer service sales rep who knew immediately I needed the basics.  He is the reason I stayed and then bought shoes. If he had been salesier, I would have felt taken advantage of. I can be pushed around anywhere. I got a great education at Fleet Feet.

Nick told me that walking and running are different and require different shoes, fitted me for RUNNING shoes and explained why they felt funny and how my foot would adjust once I started running, brought me out pink shoes after eyeballing the ones I was already wearing, told me that while running, I should concentrate on whichever shoe (I wore a different product on each foot; then switched them)  I noticed the least, taught me that while my flat feet may require bulkier padding for walking, they require something different for running, etc., etc.

He also -- on a busy and sweltering hot Sunday -- took the time and energy to explain and let me try everything -- including outdoor and treadmill running, quite a few times. He asked me to do something very interesting: concentrate on my breathing in the shoes; not the shoes themselves. Very patient, positive, inclusive, warm and enthusiastic. He took one look at my cute socks and suggested I try for polyester running socks (BUT NEVER PUSHED THEIR MERCH -- just informed me once again that I was causing myself blisters). He's also pretty easy on the eyes.:)

The only thing I didn't like was beyond his control: $100 for sneaks??? AHHHHHH!!! Regardless of that insanity, I had a great run and felt totally informed, encouraged and inspired. I have just started running and I wanted something that was going to keep me going. I got so much more at Fleet Feet. I got courage on my feet! Thanks, Nick!!

I really love this place. U dont have to be a runner or even very athletic to shop here. I am always on my feet because of work and I wanted advice on what kind of shoes I should use. The employee Kristin was soooo Helpful, Patient, & Kind. I told her what issues I had and after observing the way I walk she suggested a few pairs to try on. She was so knowledgeable!
I did buy a pair of sneakers along with a few other things. Yes it may seem pricey, but to leave with shoes that can improve the quality of ur walk and ur feet I think its totally worth it!!!  The difference in the support is very noticeable! I was surprised by how much better my feet&legs felt.  Im glad I stopped by!

Fleet Feet is my "go-to" store for buying running shoes & clothing. Their selection is great and even one bad experience didn't turn me off.

About 3 years ago I was "talked into" buying some running shoes after doing a gait analysis. I basically went with what the salesperson told me to buy. The shoes ended up not being very comfortable (or cushion-y) and for me, uncomfortable running shoes = me not excited to go running = me not running. Yeah, I'm ridiculous and have to be excited about my running shoes because it helps motivate me to run.

Flash forward to about 2 weeks ago. After reading a bajillion reviews of running shoes, I knew which ones would be best for me (neutral, high arch, running 2-5 miles at a time). When I told the saleswoman I wanted to try on X and X shoes she looked at me like I was some crazy person, asked if I'd already had a gait analysis (yes!) and continued to ask me several other questions. Ummmm, can you just get me the shoes? She finally did when sensing my irritability.

After doing a quick test run in both shoes I went with the Brooks Ghost. I love them and I love running in them.

*I've also been to their workshop (for 2 years in a row) on how to run during the winter and it's really helpful.

This place sucks.  Frankly, I don't know why I've shown up here more than once when every salesperson that I've asked for help here has sighed loudly and looked less than pleased to be helping me out.  And when you don't ask for help, no one bothers to glance your way and give you a mere nod.  I don't know what's up their a**es; big old sticks, I'm assuming.  My husband has had similar experiences here.  We will take our business elsewhere and recommend that friends do the same; there are plenty of other places to get the quality service.

Let me first start off by saying that I hate, hate HATE chain stores with a passion that can only to described as blinding. Yet, I love Fleet Feet! Huh!

I know the staff there by name (and even some of their pets!) and they know me, my running style, my pace, my running needs, and many other things about me. Even during the super busy marathon training season they have items that are hard to keep stocked. For example, they still had an abundant supply of energy gels the week of the marathon. (That impressed me because those things get sucked so quickly that many I know have carried baggies of honey because the flavors that they could handle sold out.)

When I am on the running path and I see a Fleet Feet staff member they always say "hi" and it makes me feel like I am living in a small town where everyone is a runner.

Fleet Feet is a runner's running store. It is, hands down, the best running store...make that community... in Chicago. To say they have excellent customer service would be a gross understatement.

    Allow me to contextualize:

    1) Melanie needs new shoes. She is cutting it close to the start date of her first marathon. Gets a badass employee (need to remember his name) to remeasure feet, advise on lost toenail, discuss marathon tips, and look all over for the shoes in question. Unfortunately, without luck - he sends off Melanie with a smile and great website for a new pair. No grudge. Just good old fashioned runner to runner love.

    2) (My favorite...) Melanie is cutting it close again. She needs GU. She's needs Chocolate Outrage GU - hopes to slide into FF LSq for a few packs before carbo loading at La Bocca Della Verita down the street. Walks up to a closed Fleet Feet (6:00pm, not 7:00pm on Saturdays). Registers are shut down. Clean up crew is doing the wipe down. What do they do? They open up. And without hesitation, grab me three packs of GU. No charge. Why? Because I am a runner. And they are runners. And they know marathons are big deals. End of story.

    3. They have: free yoga classes, women's runs, taste of the marathon parties (Piper's Alley), encouraging tweets, clinics of all shapes and sizes, incredible staff, great gear, and enthusiastic race day support.

    I love runners.

    I love Fleet Feet.

Now that the last two times I have gone, I have gotten great customer service without paying a dime...I need do go back and gear up for winter training. And you should too. You won't be disappointed - and just just might leave with a few more friends and great stories to share.

Thanks for taking care of Chicago's running community, Fleet Feet!

Great service...she was thorough in helping me find the right running shoes.  Have had trouble in the past with shoes. These new shoes fit me perfectly.  Surprised to know that I am a size 7 not a 6 and that I have little arch and over pronounced feet.

Now, I have the flattest feet known to mankind--there is no part of my foot that DOES NOT touch the floor--sigh!   And, I am not a runner, but I love Fleet Feet!  When I wander into this store, immediately I head for the shoes--they have a very decent selection of running & walking shoes--it enthralls me.  The staff here are incredible knowledgeable of their products (a huge plus in my book!) & they are ever so patient with this non-runner.  They give suggestions, watch you run/walk in their shoes, they do not try & sell you everything they own (thank you!!) and they are not pushy (love that!).

Now, you will most likely spend a little more on athletic shoes here than say Sports Authority--but it is totally worth it.  Fleet Feet sponsors all kinds of seminars, running clinics, and such to help you out & get your started on your running career & that is something I can totally get behind.

So today I, middle-aged, baby boomer, me, bought my very first pair of real running shoes. And you know what? The process was thorough, informative, and helpful. A salesperson named Jordan spent copious time with me, watching me run down the block in four different pairs of shoes (and, one time, with wearing shoes from 2 different pairs to compare them), and never made me feel like I was a beginner (which I am). Jordan made sure I got shoes that fit, supported me, and were appropriate for my gait.

All in all, a very good experience. So much so, that when he asked for my email address during check-out, I actually provided it. Excellent customer service like this is something I really appreciate.

    I will be back.

Anyone who knows me knows that I carry an eternal torch for good shoes.  And that I'm a big stickler for customer service.

Hands down, Fleet Feet has been my best shoe shopping experience.  Running shoes?  Seriously?  Yes.  It's true.  While I didn't walk away with a pair of stylish Betsy Johnsons, I did walk away with a much needed pair of GOOD running shoes.

For the past year, I've been suffering with the most excruciating shin splints known to man, so I've used it as an excuse to slack off on running.  Apparently, I can thank my Nike Shox for the pain!  The person who helped me (whose name, unfortunately, I didn't get) was insanely knowledgeable.  He helped me pick the very perfect shoe with just the right amount of cushioning.  He explained what I should be looking for in a shoe and assuaged my fears that it wasn't the shoe but poor form affecting my shins.  Whew!  I can't wait to hit the road!!!

And they have "Fun Runs" on Mondays and Saturdays, plus one just for women on Wednesdays.  I want to give it a whirl - but I don't want to embarrass myself!

Now anyone know where I can pick up some stamina to go with my new New Balances?

I left with a better understanding and the perfect pair of shoes for me. Go expecting to give your purchase a test run. They have a process of observing you and asking questions to help make your selection, but in my experience they're also open to your thoughts.

    I love my shoes.

WOW! I am new to running (ahem, jog/walking/wheezing), and so was nervous to go to a running store. I read on other reviews that I would have to run in front of the employees - ack! I am also a larger woman, and was a little bit nervous about feeling out of place among more serious athletes. Anyhow, gotta start somewhere, right?

I could not have felt more comfortable and understood in Fleet Feet!! The employees were relaxed and not judgemental at all. The girl who fit me for shoes let me know that a lot of the concerns that I have are common, and even answered my questions that I was initially not planning on asking (how do you carry water/keys? etc)! She even filled me in on the Wednesday night fun runs, which I would totally go to if I didn't live so far away from this location. I ended up grabbing socks, a sports bra, and a couple of shirts. I will certainly patronize Fleet Feet in the future!

I am a long time athlete but first time marathon runner this year. Unfortunately, I bought my first pair of training shoes at the New Balance store. The people at Fleet Feet told me that the New Balance store sold me all terrain shoes, which is good for running on lake front gravel trails, but bad for summer time sweating.

Fleet Feet does an excellent job at fitting you for shoes, watching you run in them, and really taking the time to help you understand how you run, and what shoes will best conform to your technique.

I have been here twice now, and while it is a bit pricey, I feel like I learned something new about running, training, or apparel both times I have been there. While I would recommend getting shoes here, perhaps Nike Outlet or somewhere else has running clothes for cheaper.

After trying to find a shoe store that sells wide athletic shoes some one recommended fleet feet. First off trying to find them was just a pain they have three addresses and two of them no longer are store locations.

I went in with the sole purpose of buying a cross training shoe. I told the sales person what I was looking for: A cross trainer shoe and she recommended some shoes.  I feel in love with a pair of new balance shoes that fit wonderfully.

I was so happy I got a pair of cool new shoes I showed them to a few people at my gym. I found out from someone I trust who told me. "Man those are running shoes not cross trainers there not made for weight lifting or boxing or anything your doing in the gym."

Littlie did I know that Fleet feet specializes in running shoes and no other shoe. But everyone recommends them for shoes but no one says "hey we deal in running shoes only".  The sales women neglected to tell me this, I was trying on a long distance shoe and not a cross trainer. I specifically told the sales person what I was looking for and she gave me a running shoe! I asked for a cross trainer and what really pissed me off I love the feel of the shoe but they're not designed for my needs.

I plan on returning the shoe tonight and I hope they take them back. It pays to do some research on the shoes you need learn from my mistake. Also Fleet Feet is partially to blame they should have told me right off the bat. Sorry sir we do not carry cross trainers we only carry running shoes. I would have gone on to the New Balance store and gotten the right shoe as one of my friends told me after the fact about.

I'm just so disappointed in such a well-recommended and respected store, by so many athletes and people I know. Would have been nice to find out that I was sold a Green apple when I was looking for a granny smith apple. I know it's semantics but still when you need something you need it. Shame on Fleet Feet for not having GOOD customer service! Its just simple knowledge of the customers needs.

The customer service here is excellent!  I ended up at Fleet Feet Sports after being snubbed at the Runner's Edge in Andersonville.  Fleet Feet Sports has a great selection, knowledgeable staff, and a super convenient location!  I'd give this place 10 stars if I could!

I came into Fleet Feet last time I was shopping for running shoes - which btw, are very important to me.  The service was great and the staff was very helpful but in the end, I ended up going somewhere else for a cheaper deal on the running shoes that I really wanted.

If you are a beginner or hoping to eventually build up to marathon status, I'd recommend coming in here to get tips, advice, and pick out a shoe that will be a great fit for you and your running style.

Yes, expensive.  But what costs you more -- good shoes or destroyed cartilage, joint pain, or goofy looking New Balances from Kohl's?

Once I bought Sauconys from Fleet Feet, I have never gone back to any other shoe.  All of my knee pain went away.  And these guys knew how to find the right fit.  They're always coming up with new and great options for me.  Super nice people too.  And they "get" winter running...something a lot of people don't seem to understand, even when working in a shoe store.

I'm taking away one star because the high prices are annoying.  But sign up for their free "benefits" program and you'll get cash back on purchases -- no expiration date.

E: nroll in their rewards program, where once you spend $250 here, you get a $25 credit to spend on your next purchase.  Valid only at the Piper's Alley and Lincoln Square locations though.  Elmhurst has their own separate program.
E: xpect it to be busy and to have to wait a while to be tended to, if you need help with getting fitted.
T: ry them Mizunos.  They're my fav brand of running shoes!
