Flamingo is an institution of the Meadowlark neighbourhood. A quiet, unassuming restaurant along an outdoor strip mall, Flamingo has been attracting customers for years -- many of them older people who dine here on a regular basis. The menu is fairly extensive, with a good selection of burgers, dinners, sandwiches, and pastas. The pizza is a major draw, which is has a very unique and tangy flavour, on a firm, crunchy crust. Dinner portions are generous, and prices are quite reasonable.
A lot of menu items are staples one would expect to find on a family-owned, established restaurant: meatloaf, chicken fingers, spaghetti and meatballs, steaks of different kinds - there is something for everyone here, although the menu is a bit light on vegetarian items. No worries -- the Greek salad is great, as is the spanikopita (spinach pie) which is also served with a generous side of Greek salad. Several pizzas are meatless. Fresh fish lovers will enjoy the selection of halibut, salmon, fried cod, and boned rainbow trout (one of my personal favourites). The atmosphere is quiet, warm, and friendly.
Take your parents or just take yourselves -- Flamingo is one of the west end's hidden gems. -

This is the place you end up going with your grandparents because they're cheap and always pay. The prices are reasonable and the food was always very good. Although when I did venture to try other stuff on the menu it was always good, I'd usually go for the ooey-gooey-good pizza.
I remember it as being thick with lots and lots of cheesy goodness. If I got a salad I went for their crab salad, even though it was fake crab I thought it was delicious. These are one of those places that hold a place in your memory, but if you go back as an adult they've lost a bit of their appeal. Like Red Lobster. I used to think it was the cat's meow. The best seafood in the ocean. Now it's just a good reason to eat as much butter in one meal as you can on a day-pass out of healthy eating.
The ambiance at Flamingo is your typical family restaurant, like Denny's, but not a chain. It has a cool name but there's nothing tropical or pink about it. The servers were always more mature, friendly ladies and I recall they have a patio out back that's nice and quiet. -

The Flamingo Restaurant is one of my favorite places to eat in the whole city. Huge menu with a slight greek theme. The baked spaghetti is fantastic! Kind of quaint looking place, but the staff are friendly and the atmosphere is comfortable. Good place to go for a quick lunch or a casual dinner with the family. Good central location if you are in the West End.
