My brother had told me he wanted to try out this place after hearing about it multiple times from http://reddit.com. My father had tried some in Chicago and couldn't wait to try it in Kingston. I just wanted a burger. So off we went!
This isn't a beautiful looking restaurant by any means, but boy does ever it satisfy a craving for a burger!
It has that perfect mix between a real homemade burger and a fast food one. The meat doesn't have the typical dog-meat + particle board combination that most fast food places have; instead it's a plump and delicious piece of ground beef! But the cheese takes more from it's fast food cousins and melts perfectly over your burger to create a divine flavor. The bun is beautiful, and the rest of the ingredients are fresh. The fries are also very satisfying, and the one time where we ran into a hair in our fries, they replaced it and upped the size!
In a perfect world they'd also serve poutine and be open super late so I could hit this place after a few drinks.
So yes, http://reddit.com, you were right. This place is amazing. -

I moved from Canada to the US when I was 18. Since then, trying Five Guys has been on my to-do list, but I've never been near a location.
Isn't it fitting that my first Five Guys experience would be in Canada?
Upon learning from my cousin that they just opened one downtown, I took my brother, my mom, and my daughter to try it. It looked just like I had imagined it - bags of potatoes lining the entrance to the ordering station, old-school red and white decorations, reviews lining the walls, etc. Well done, Five Guys.
I ordered a plethora of toppings on my burger. For $6.29, I wanted to get my fair share. My brother ordered his burger and we got a large order of fries to go with it. We opted for the Five Guys fries instead of the Cajun fries (I live in New Orleans, I can have Cajun anything at any time). We also got drinks. It turns out that they have 2 separate fountain drink stations, but only one works? Maybe this was an abnormality on this particular day, but it seemed a little odd.
The wait for our food was 5 minutes or less. The burgers are cooked to order and worth the short wait. I made a HUGE mess with mine, due to the 2 patties and tons of toppings, but it was so delicious. The fries were good too, although nothing incredibly special.
They do need to change a few things for their Canadian menu, though. First, I assume they are using their US foodservice supplier. There are no packets of white vinegar for the fries (a Canadian thing - a staple in most restaurants). They did spring for a few bottles of what I assume is Malt Vinegar. Unfortunately, this is an American thing typically used at fried fish restaurants... not so great on fries. They also need to add gravy. Canadians like their fries with gravy. Poutine may be a nice addition, but not necessary. White Vinegar and Gravy are necessities. In fact, take Cajun fries off of the menu and add Gravy. I'm sure the Cajun fries aren't a huge hit up there anyway.
Would I visit again? Absolutely - but since my time visiting Kingston is usually limited to a few days 1-2x per year, I may get a Five Guys burger and then drive to Bubba's for some poutine. -
