Review from Isabelle G.

I am not sure why this location is getting the low reviews that it is. I realize that it is not the best location of the ones that I have been to, however, it's not the worse. The décor needs some updating. They just recently got some new equipment in. I feel like there are sales people everywhere rather than people to assist my needs. I go to this location 'cause it is a 10 minute walk from the skytrain and their pool location works in conjunction with my schedule. They used to have a juice bar back in the day which was my post workout highlight, that is now gone.

I realize that all FW locations are different but this one is the pits. Extremely low ceilings, countless TVs and mirrors everywhere make for a claustrophobic, oppressive 1st impression. A lot of time was wasted looking for a spray bottle with liquid in it to clean the machines. There is absolutely no air circulation, either.
The women's area predictably only had weights up to & including 30 lbs and 1/2 were missing. There is no signage anywhere in the gym either to direct you. For the cost involved there are not nearly enough Group Classes. Thankfully I have a corporate membership; I would not choose to pay for a membership here. -

I am discovering that the sales folks at this fitness centres are more pushy than the traditional car salesmen. I phoned to find out about their facilities and membership available. The sales told me they have about 25 different programs of memberships so he can't tell me about it over the phone. He kept telling me to come in and he would be able to discuss better in person.
It turns me off that the pricing have to be so complicated that it can't even be posted online or promoted over the phone. The pool times for the pool is also not updated correctly on the website. It says it's closed on Sundays but the sales assured me that it's not closed on Sundays.
After talking to the "fitness trainer" (more like a salesman) on the phone, I don't think I even want to visit the location. If someone has a good experience at this location, please let me know.
Currently, I'm writing this location off as a place to consider for working out. -
Review from Richard D.

My experience at this location started out great and went downhill from there. A trainer/salesman showed me the place on my first day of a two-week pass to the place. He seemed nice and we did half a circuit. I told him it was my birthday the next day so I decided I want to get in shape as I'm getting older. He did half of a circuit with me and then went over the various plans. He really tried to upsell me on more expensive plans. But that's typical and didn't bother me. Then he asked me to come back the next day for the second half of the circuit. The next morning, I was tired, and it was my birthday. But I had committed to it, so I showed up. He said there was a women's class being held in the circuit area so he couldn't do the training with me. He told me to do the elliptical on my own. I said I could do that in my apartment building, which has ellipticals and treadmills. He just laughed. Then I asked him if we could go to the weight room for a session. That's separate from the main circuit where the class was being held. He said, "You only get one free session." I said, "You told me to come back for the second part." He said, "Only in this room, not that one." He was such a jerk about it. He really didn't care. I think he thought he didn't have a sale so he wasn't going to waste his time. The fact is that he LOST a sale because he was a jerk.
The pool in this place is really small, and it didn't seem to have the right balance of chemicals. And the jacuzzi doesn't have jets, just crappy bubbles that don't do much.
The place is cramped, and the facility actually held a class in the circuit area. (The salesman wasn't lying about that. I saw it.)
All in all, this particular centre isn't worth it. I don't know about the other locations. -
Review from David L.
Extremely pushy salespeople at Fitness World. I had a free two week pass from the Entertainment Book and I decided to use it at this location. One of the staff spent about almost 45 minutes with me selling me the package, while I ended up spending only 30 minutes working out on the machines. The place is way too old as this is the original Fitness World location that opened in the 1960's and some of the machines look like they're from the 80's. I'm glad that I didn't buy the package and I never did return after my initial visit.

FW has a seemingly generous offer for a free week pass to its centres. This location is closest to my house. I set up a 9am introductory appointment with a trainer. When I arrived, the parking lot was close to full. A woman in a mini van was waiting for a spot and I found another spot in another aisle. Seeing that my spot had opened up before hers, she rolled down her window and began to yell at me. Then as I was walking into the centre for my first visit, she got out of her van (still blocking traffic coming into the lot) just to continue her tirade. Her entitlement seemed to be grounded in the fact that she was a "trainer" at the centre. I was already appalled at how completely unhinged this woman (who I won't name) was. Finding out that she worked at the centre sealed the deal for me. I couldn't believe that I had been so intensely harrassed by a team member and I hadn't even set foot in the building yet. Reading the other reviews has confirmed that I made the right decision; it is not worth my time or energy.
