    Hi Fitness-One!

How have you been?  In great shape I hope.  Har har.

Sorry I've neglected you lately.  For such a low price of $16/month, I find it easier to skip workouts, without feeling guilty of wasting a ridiculously expensive gym membership.  That shouldn't be an excuse though...

You have very friendly staff, and tons of equipment - although I went today, and everything was in use!  I'm blaming it on everyone feeling fat from excessive candy-consumption over this past Easter weekend.

I'm not going to lie, but you're kinda ghetto.  Don't get me wrong, 'cause I don't need a fancy gym or anything, but some better lighting, and maybe paper-towels in the washrooms sometimes would be a start.

I appreciate your complimentary fitness-assessments.  Though it would be nice to have it done by an actual trainer - not a mediocre out of shape girl, telling me how to get fit?

In conclusion, I'm going to try and get back into my routine of visiting you more often.  You're not a very special gym at all, but I like that you're keeping it affordable, especially during this recession.  Hey, recession or not, people need to look great, right?

    Again, thank you.

    Much love,
    angela.

This place has closed!!  Turns out they haven't paid thier rent in 6 months so goodbye lunchtime fitness hello stop payments with my bank.  And hello tighter jeans and winter frumpiness! I am so pissed at this! And apparantly the other fitness ones deny any affiliation with them because they weren't paying their franchise fees.

It is a shame because even though there was only one working toilet, the free weights and mats haven't been replaced since 1989 and staff changed over daily, this gym was convenient for me to pop out at lunch.  And they actually had some good fitness and yoga teachers.  I will never find another $10 a month gym.  No wonder they went under.

I'm going to keep this simple: I resolved the issue and cancelled my account, but I was only able to do this by closing the bank account with the pre-authorized payment. No more withdrawals for you, Fitness One.

I did this after the final outrage - if you've been following along you'll note that the one missing piece in the cancellation puzzle was returning my coveted membership card - I sent it along with a friend who still goes to this gym and a note of authorization and they refused to do anything, saying I needed to make an appointment with the manager and they couldn't accept the card. That was the final straw.

I've reported these guys to the BBB, who are quite familiar with these crooks as there have been 83 complaints filed already, and it has a Better Business Bureau grade of "F".

I usually don't go ballistic when I call companies that continually um, how do I put this in a clean manner? screw you in the bum. However, I did raise my voice when I called the Dufferin mall location today.
Yesterday, after my usual workout, I went to collect my membership card (because they're so ghetto you have to leave your card at the front desk and retrieve it on your way out once you get the attention of the girl reading the latest facebook status updates) and was told "you can't come here anymore".
"But why??" was my natural response. I've never defaulted on my payments. I respect the shitty equipment and wipe them down after. It's all because I joined at the Dufferin location over TWO years ago. I don't live anywhere close to there now and I've been consistently using the Peter Street location for a long time.
Apparently, they're behaving like children and have a squabble because Peter is giving the Duff a bad rep. So who suffers? The customer of course! Peter has decided to break away and now your Fitness One membership is no longer valid there yet according to their website, it looks like they're still part of the same company.
I emailed the Peter location but judging by all the vitriolic comments I've seen on the web, I'm sure I'll never get a response.
They said I could cancel my membership at the Duff (and I have to go in person. How convenient!) and then they'll "kindly" waive the joining fees at the Peter location and "kindly" charge me double the amount I'm paying now (all under the guise that the reason why they're more expensive is because of their central location - maybe if you offered better equipment and turn down that shitty music, I'd be willing to pay more). I know it's not expensive but it's the principle that's pissing me off.
My friend went through a whole mess of trying to cancel her membership and got charged a lot for it.
My guess is I will continue to get charged on my credit card long after I've quit the other location because Fitness One is the best at giving a good rim job.
So even if you don't read my long rant PAY HEED TO THIS: DO NOT JOIN FITNESS ONE!! THEY'RE SCAMMERS!!!!!

Warning to everyone regarding the Peter St location. They along with NCR are chasing down former gym members who thought they had cancelled their memberships years ago. They are pressuring people to pay up to $1,500 to settle. It is bogus and fraudulent, so be warned if you are a victim of this, please contact me at fitnessonefraud@yahoo.ca - i am pulling together as many people as I can to fight this, if you have settled please still get in touch, perhaps we can still add you to recoup your losses.

    thank you... fitnessonefraud@yahoo.ca
