The Halifax Fishermans Market feels like a throwback to the days when Halifax was still a young port town and fresh fish was sold on the waterfront daily.
Why bother going to your local grocery chain and picking up seafood that is freezer burnt or overpriced and preserved with chemicals. I've never had anything taste as fresh as the Haddock filets that my mom buys here, you can taste and feel the differences in texture that will make you are permanent fresh fish snob, (fair warning!)
Usually marked down from market prices, this fish market offers some great food for even better savings. -

New Years Eve and it was busy but they are so efficient that were we're in and out in no time. I bought a 1/2 pound of shucked lobster meat and ate it with my bare hands driving home...and no, I'm not embarrassed!

Fisherman's Market exports all over the world. The President Fred Greene is from Nova Scotia who opened the business in 1948.

Fisherman's Market is a wholesale retailer that mainly specializes in exports, but also does some in store selling of different seafood.
You can get it fresh, frozen, smoked or salted, and live or frozen lobster. They will even deliver right to your door... anywhere in North America. So, if you want to send your Dad a nice, juicy lobster over in Saskatchewan, Fisherman's Market can help get it there.
They'll even give you a little lesson on how to best keep the lobster until you're ready for cooking... and even a lesson on how to crack it open and eat it. They really know what they're doing here at Fisherman's Market. If you have any questions the staff are extremely friendly and not afraid to help you out in any way. -

I'm not a huge fan of fish, but I always find it interesting to shop this store. I find myself heading right to the back to check out the live lobsters.
You can pick and choose everything you buy. You can ask a million questions, the staff are always willing to help.
Everytime we've purchased product from here, it was fresh and we've yet to be disappointed with our fish. -

If you're in the habit of eating as much fish as we are, you might want to start making the jaunt out to the Fisherman's Market. Not only is this fish monger local but they also sell fresh caught fish as opposed to frozen/shrink wrapped. The shrimp from Chedabucto Bay are particularly delicious!
