Lunch stop in Sidney. 4 stars as long as you:
-Stick with the fish and chips or the fish burger. Fish has a crispy, crunchy coating and the yam fries are great with the honey mustard(?) dip. Halibut burger had fresh fish and a variety of veggie condiments (lettuce, dill, etc.) that helps maintain a light, healthy taste.
-Stay far away from the clam chowder. The bowl I opted for in lieu of the regular fries had a thick Elmer's rubber cement consistency that would probably best described as thick glop with chewy, tasteless clam pieces. I don't understand how Fish on 5th received an award for this slime.
So.... everything seems to be a good choice EXCEPT for the chowder. Service was lacking as well. The place, primarily manned by college students, was half empty but yet it took about 25 minutes to get our food. Drinks were never refilled, the server never stopped by and when asked for more sauce, a stank face was what I got. Really?Listed in: Things to do in/near Victoria,…

It was good and average price but both my buddy and I Had to wait over45mins only to get over cooked food. Both had the 2piece cod..

For the English out there, and I know there are a lot about on Vancouver Island, this is one of the few places around which serves haddock. Eat in or take out, in paper I might add, it's a real treat.

Stopped by for lunch after get off from BC Ferries. This place is managed by a group of young adults and their food is just fresh and delicious. We ordered fried and grilled Cod and Halibut, both tasted great.
We found this location from GPS and will definitely visit there again! -

Fish on Fifth is casual seafood dining that features big servings for reasonable prices. My calamari with yam fries (substituted in for fries/coleslaw) was gigantic and enough to feel two moderately hungry people. The yam fries were like other yam fries - tasty when used with the mayo while the calamari had a clean batter with a touch of dill in it; no dirty deep frying here.
Service is pretty leisurely despite what looked like a large number of staff but otherwise it's hard to criticize this place - it's good casual seafood fare in a nice spot.
Definitely worth a stop on the way from the ferry or if you want to spend the day hanging out in Sidney. -

I visit Sidney a lot for business; Fish on Fifth is my usual restaurant when I'm here. Everyone should try their fish and chips, there are however quite a few other items on the menu. The huge fish pieces can be ordered grilled or fried, the salads and sweet potato fries that accompany them are really yummy too. One down side is the beer, the prices are (in my opinion) really high for how much beer you get. Other than that, it's a really cool little place to go.

One of the better places to grab a quick meal in Sidney. They have a wide selection of fish and chip variations including yam fries and real salads. The service is always fast and courteous. The restaurant is usually cold inside so dress warmly in the winter.
