    * I love Vancouver *

    This annual free event put on by the Mexican Consulate celebrates Mexican Independence as well as the contribution of Mexicans to Canada.  It is one of the wonderful series of cultural events that make me love Vancovuer!

    Several restaurants were on hand to dish out their specialties including Don Guacamoles (http://www.yelp.ca/biz...), Dona Cata (http://www.yelp.ca/biz...), and Zocalo (http://www.yelp.ca/biz...).

    Don Guacamoles was the one with the longest line as they were fresh grilling their carne asada and drawing a crowd.  They did a nice taco plate or a carne asada plate of nachos.  The meat was tender and flavourful.  Their salsa was also a highlight that really helped accent the natural smoky flavour of the meat.

    Dona Cata provided tacos using stewed meat, and they were quickly grilling the tortillas to warm them up.  The best they had on offer was the lamb taco.  The lamb was tender and flavourful, particularly with their richly complex sauce.

    I felt bad for Zocalo as for much of the day there was no line.  Seems like the wrong target market for them with their more of a fusion type of cuisine.  I guess some people were also a little turned off by the idea of having ceviche from a stand when it was so sunny out!

    Los Guerros (http://www.yelp.ca/biz...) was selling a bunch of their products including some churros rellenos, which were delicious.  They ran out by about 3pm as people were going back for seconds and thirds!  The churro was filled with a custard that really worked nicely!

    The musical entertainment varied in quality, with some very nice ones mixed in.

    Overall a lovely day, with a lovely view of the water and mountains, nice food, and a festive atmosphere.

    I love Vancouver!
