As a University of Ottawa Graduate, I have experienced practically all there is to experience at Father and Sons. Retro nights with cheap drinks and a busy dance floor, pints and pounds (of wings) during hockey games and of course the greasy spoon breakfast at 1pm on a Sunday afternoon.

FNS, as it is often so fondly known by current students and alumni alike; is very much a "what you see is what you get" sort of pub. If you are looking for top notch homemade pasta, or a unique brie cheese salad, this is not the place for you. However, if you are in the mood for a burger, greasy and topped with bacon and cheese you have likely come to the right place. I have had burgers, sandwiches, wings and wraps all for various meals and never been disappointed. Sometimes, you just need a good ole fashioned burger.

I most often visit FNS for brunch. It is usually insanely busy, but you don't usually have to wait too long to be seated. That being said, it may take a while for your food to come out, but there is usually a hockey or a football game on, so patrons don't seem to mind too much. The service is never really that great either. Breakfast is relatively cheap, and I am a sucker for the home fry poutine. Again, if you're craving eggs benedict or crepes, keep looking. If you want scrambled eggs, bacon and home fires, you probably won't be disappointed.

I often find myself and FNS during the summer to enjoy a patio beer or two as well. Nostalgia kicks in and reminds me of my University days and I am usually in for a good time.

This is a classic pub through and through, but if it ain't broke, don't fix it!

First Ottawa patio experience of the season!

This place is perfect for the Ottawa U student, or any student/fun/chill person. The prices are low, casual atmosphere, daily specials, off the beaten path of patio central in the market and lots of drinks.

It was a driving night for me so I just ordered a Hawaiian-minus-ham pizza. Note: the sangria looked delicious. Anyway, my pineapple pizza hit the spot. Their variety is quite doughy and lighter on the sauce but uber cheesy and no skimping on toppings.

Our server was really nice and quick. She was a go-getter that would do things before you had to ask for them to be done like waters all around, separate bills, cutlery, condiments, etc.

Should father's bring their sons here? Hmm, I suppose it depends on the age.

We come by Father and Sons when there's a UFC fight on.

The place is usually packed on fight nights and it's definitely a student bar as it's located right in the heart of Ottawa U.

On Saturday they usually have a wing special and if you get there early enough they will sell you some cheap wings.  They do not sell cheap wings during the fight.  The wings aren't bad at all.  I've tried the pizza and a burger here as well and it's what definitely what you expect.  The food is definitely A-Ok.

Tthe bar staff have always been super friendly.  That's my favourite thing about this place, is how great the staff are.

God this place is disgusting. I live down the street which makes this place super convenient to eat at and I'm ALWAYS in a bad mood everytime I leave this place. The food is overpriced, o wait, isnt that a Canada thing? Everything is around 10 to 15 dollars. This is a place where I would assume only students of Ottawa U would go to since its so close by. I had the chicken parmesan, wings, pizza, and the sandwiches. GROSS SHIT! You are better off getting chips at Mac's and calling it a day. Or eating baking soda. UGH, i'm already in a bad mood thinking of the food here.

TIP: Students are always there drinking even in the AM and it can get crowded with shitty service. They DONT use REAL maple syrup!  Breakfast is super greasy. Really a place for 18 year olds that dont understand what good food is yet.

In other words this is like Denny's but 3x worse.

I cant wait to not live in Ottawa anymore and run far away from Father & Sons.

I agree with previous reviews that the breakfast is good, quick, and cheap! The restaurant and bar is right in the Sandy Hill area, right off of the University of Ottawa campus, so the location is perfect for students that live in the area and want somewhere low-key to stop by for a drink or grab some grub. You can literally roll out of bed and walk in wearing your pajamas for some late breakfast, so never be worried about being too casual. The lighting is also usually quite dim, so it's really comforting when you feel terrible and look all disheveled from the long night before.

When heading to Father and Sons for a drink, don't expect too much. Maybe it's because of the mostly student crowd, but the drinks aren't exactly fantastic. The tequila sunrise I had tasted like orange juice and had a murky brownish-pink color. Basically, it's more of a place to drink a beer, rather than sip on some fancy drinks.

Sitting at F&S on a Saturday morning, my friends and I can't help but be underwhelmed and slightly irritated by the terrible service and excessive wait-times. After waiting 15 minutes to receive menus and another 20 to order, we've now been waiting an additional 30 minutes (and counting) to receive our meals while everyone else (who arrived after us) are enjoying their breakfasts. While this may be a popular spot for hungover students to enjoy cheap breakfasts on a Saturday morning, there is nothing enjoyable about the inadequate service and lack of attention paid to customers. Unless you have hours to waste to receive a very average meal, my table and I suggest a trip elsewhere for breakfast.

Although the name suggests a restaurant, Father and Sons is definitely a pub - meaning alcohol is an important part of your meal. It is located on the corner of King Edward and Osgoode, directly across from the Ottawa University campus. Now, this would suggest a huge young-person vibe. But, the night I was there, it was populated mostly by older, more mature customers. So, perhaps Father and Sons is not an Ottawa University student bar, but (horror of horrors!) instead an Ottawa University PROFESSOR bar!!! The menu is pub grub and the beers on tap are the usual. I had the wings and they were just okay - I have had juicier wings at a better price. I am sure this place has a better vibe when it is hopping on a weekend.
