    Hamburger BLISS!!!

Maybe a few others here have been disappointed by their Fatburger experience, but not this kid!

I WAS expecting to be disappointed, so I guess the only thing I was disappointed by was the lack of disappointment by Fatburger. The burger was ever thing I would have wanted a burger to be, and is how I remember them being before every corner of every city was taken over by Micky D's, Burger King, DQ, and so on.

I had a chocolate caramel swirl shake with my fries (the fries were NOT salty, which scores points with me big time). The shake was just like I remember them from 40 years ago, before they all became generic. LOVED THE SHAKE!

It WAS pricy, as others have pointed out, but If one just goes for a burger and fries (the serving of REAL french fries - not the previously frozen kind -was huge), and I do believe that I got my money's worth.

I'll be back, but not very often, as I want it to be just an occasional treat. This will be difficult, as the guy at the West Broadway location tells me that they are building a new Fatburger near King Edward and Lougheed, which is close and convenient for me (finally!).

I guess it's partly in what you want a burger joint to be. For me, this is pretty much what I want a 'burger joint' to be.

Could use a bigger parking lot, but it's not like that's going to happen here.

I'll try the poutine next time.

    May 14, 2012 note:

I'm downgrading this review from five stars to 'only' four stars, two weeks after posting it, as I had not yet been to Vera's Burger Shack when I wrote it. After eating a burger at Vera's, it would not be fair to give Fatburger (this location) five stars, as much as I enjoyed the food here. The burger that I had at Vera's Burger Shack (Fraser Hwy location) was the very best restaurant chain burger that I've ever experienced, BAR NONE! Here's the review for Vera's, the place that has now spoiled me for all others: http://www.yelp.com/re...

Ok, full disclosure, I was there with a groupon. I probably would not usually be in that neighbourhood and making the choice to go there. I honstly sort of wish I had never gone there. Not a great experience. The whole thing just feels totally overrated. I felt like I was in an american chain restaurant in the middle of suburban California. Yuck!
So yeah, the people who served me were really nice. They were patient while I tried to pull up my groupon on my malfunctioning smartphone. I really appreciated their patience and general friendliness.
As nice as they were, I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the prices. It just seemed outrageous for what they were offering. I ordered a bbq bacon burger and some onion rings. The burger was not fat by any means. It was a miniscule little thing served on a regular  ol' white dull bun. So boring.
The onion rings were just terrible. Honestly, the worst onion rings I've ever had. They were bland and limpy. I ate 2 and left the rest. Let me tell you, I hate leaving food but there was no other choice for these wimpy things.
I was not impressed fatburger. Not impressed at all.

Poutine n a drink for $5 on wed right now...while I'm not a burger nut like my hubby I did enjoy the fries here. You can see the cook putting the burger together right after you order (nothing hidden here it's all viewable thru plexiglass) I'm told the burgers are fresh, juicy and very filling. If you're looking for quality this is the place to stop. Forget the big name national burger joints and give this place a try.

This isn't a review on this specific location, just Fatburger in general. I went with a groupon since it claimed to be the last great hamburger stand. More like one of many adequate stands. I've definitely had WAY better food. The service was fine and the location was nice. But the food in general was not great.

You want a great burger? Go to Vera's instead.

The original fatburger was average and the Cajun cheddar chicken burger was just ok. The fries were good and the cinnamon donuts were tasty if a bit oily. Noticed this place so many times before going in today. The space is very small with only about 4 small tables and some bar seating. This is just another burger place - exactly as billed.

Ok after driving or walking by this Fatburger and the one down in English Bay so many times I finally decided I wanted to try it. Honestly, mostly because of the name. I just wanted to eat at a place called "Fatburger", haha.

So I recently decided to try the one on Broadway out for lunch. I went again a little while after that as well.

The first time I had a limited time special that had for a pulled pork burger/sandwich. I went back again to try the basic original burger.

Well, the burgers are not bad, pretty good for sure compared to the usual fast food joints (McD, BK, etc). However, it's too pricey. It's like 14-15 dollars for a combo! Vera's and Moderne Burger are better burgers so those will be my future choices.

I will say that both times the staff were super friendly for sure. I liked that. The little tv's are cool too.

It wasn't the best burger I've ever had nor was it the worst. Definitely way above McDonald's but not quite up there with vera's or even whitspot (gotta love that triple o sauce). It definitely did satisfy my hunger and craving for a burger after a long rollerblading session around the sea wall.

The location is great and the restaurant itself has an old school diner feel to it.

I ordered the original fat burger which came with a 6oz pattie that was grilled nicely. It tasted like it had come off of a bbq. I didn't want to bastardize it too much, so I only added some cheddar cheese, so I could really taste the burger meat. It was topped with fresh lettuce and tomatoes, onions, ketchup and mustard.

I haven't eaten at McDonald's in years (other than a mcflurry every so often) and I don't plan on eating there ever again, so this place is definitely a good replacement.

It was nice to see Fatburger in Vancouver, but it's just not the same as it is in the US. I miss the option of Fat Fries!

It's a solid burger option, but I can't help but compare it to my favourite (Vera's). Good enough if you're really hungry, but surprisingly expensive. Food is made fresh, and the staff is friendly - the restaurant is quite small, so seating can be a problem when it's busy. It's .. a burger joint. Not the best, not the worst. It just is.

    *Sad Trombone*

This afternoon we grabbed some Fatburger Take-away for lunch - 2 veggie burgers and one traditional meat burger for our carnivorous pal.The fries were absolutely yummy, but the burgers themselves were a big sad face - sloppy toppings in a flaccid bun, with the strangest cinnamon-y flavour!

We eventurally determined that the strange, almost Moroccan flavour was the relish and pickles - aboslutely offputting in the burgers. We all wrinkled our noses and scraped it off. :(

For the hefty price I was not impressed by the lank iceberg lettuce shreds, the flavourless half-green tomato slice and the PROCESSED cheese slice - What the Eff?!

We won't be heading here again.

Fatburger... Its catchy name is about the only good thing going for this place. As others may have said, this is NOT comparable to its US counterpart. Such a shame too. The last burger I had disappointed yet again. I just grabbed an original fatburger with the normal fixin's and it came back to me looking worse than a BK Whopper. The only thing they did get right with my order were the Fries. The price for such a burger is also painful. I'd rather go to 5 guys which I might add is a wonderful alternative, or cough up 10 more dollars and get a true gourmet burger at DB Moderne Bistro.

Basically, if you don't mind paying a lot for a burger that you can get for half price else where, Fatburger won't disappoint you.

I went to Fatburger for a little Sunday grease after a Saturday night out.

I actually enjoy it.  Maybe because personally I don't like my patties to be too big, nor the burger too big to fit in my mouth at these specialty burger joints. (Vera's, Splits, Modern Burger).

Of course the burger is freshly made, and my topping were also fresh.  The spices were not overpowering, and they did not load it up with too much salt.  I hate restaurants that use too much salt to boost up taste.

Why else do I prefer Fatburger?
    1) The little TV's to keep you entertained while you eat. (but i think it was designed for little kids as a cartoon was showing when I was there).
    2) Complimentary newspaper to read, (and its pages are not greased up from the previous reader).
    3) How they wrap your burger (think donair style) so the toppings don't slip out at the bottom when you bite into it.

Also, I appreciate their exta industrial strength hood vents and air circulation.  Any burger spot that makes fresh burgers usually have a lot of grease and scent in the air (if you barbeque a lot, you'll know what i mean) - but here I didn't walk out smelling like a burger.

    |n addition, they claim to use the leanest beaf and they also have veggie burgers, turkey burgers for the non-converted.

Only knock is that, as in previous posts, the pricing is on the 'over' side, but nothing too outrageous when you compare to Vera's or Splitz.

It's summer time, I crave a juicy burger with all the works. So I checked out my local Fatburger just opened not long ago.

I ordered a single combo which comes fries and refillable drinks.

I like the made to order burger and the no seed burger is the way I like it. Burger was juicy and the fries was made fresh and a refreshing drink of your choice to wash it all down.

The only drawback was the price, $11 and change and it will be even more steep after HST come out in July.

I think I will just save a few bucks and BBQ at home.

Baby Fat burger is enough for me. I like that the buns and all the toppings are the same, and only the patty is thinner.

The fries are good. Thickness is close to Wendy's, but way more crispy and flavourful. I got the chili cheese fries this time, which were good but I think I like them by themselves better. Gravy available too.

The lemonade was a bit too sweet, but one of the other choices was soda water. Nice.

They make everything fresh, so you have to wait a bit. If you are eating, in, they will give you a number on a stand and will bring you your food.

I think I may be more excited about the burger if I had it more recently, so I'll update if I go again.

Seeing John C.'s review just reminded me I forgot to post about this rip off of a place too.

I am still mad I paid $14 for a mediocre burger combo!  For that price I could have a got a seriously good lunch elsewhere.  I am still stewing about this even though I ate there 2 weeks ago now!

The restaurant was clean including the bathrooms.  Servers were nice and friendly.  We sat on the patio and they had the heat lamps blowing at full force on a beautifully warm day.  Burger was good but certainly nothing special.  Not one memorable aspect to it except the price!  Onion rings were good but certainly nothing special.  I will not be making a return trip here, ever.

Not sure what the big deal about this place is here in Canada.  I know it's fairly popular in the states for their big portions.  I kind of felt it wasn't worth it for the amount of money I could go someplace else for better food.  Nothing really stood out for me couldn't help but think about going to another place for a burger.

a friend has been HASSLING me to give this joint a chance.  he claims they have the BEST burgers in town... so i finally caved in tonight and took a chance to see what the hype was all about.

was quite happy to see that they had a turkey burger option!  so i snagged that in a combo.  was even more impressed that even without me asking, they had put the patty sandwiched between 2 whole wheat buns!  (no, im not supposed to be eating whole wheat either..aw well.)

the fries were good (but i still think wendy's fries are the best)... and the burger wasn't bad either.  but i wasn't thoroughly impressed...so seriously, i dont see what all the hype is about this place.  the turkey pattie wasn't very flavourful...maybe its because i didn't have any sauce in it except for the pickle, cheese, lettuce and tomato..?

i watched my friend devour a double fatburger thing..or whatever its called...basically two big frickin patties in one burger..oh, his poor poor arteries...(he still thinks this place is the cats meow...oh well, to each their own).

This 4 star rating is based on VALUE. Yes, there are better burgers out there, but for the money, this was pretty decent. Especially if you go on Tuesdays when it's King Burger Day (King Burger with two patties for $5.99). It's delicious with BACON and MUSHROOOOOOMS.  Fries are good, and drinks are bottomless!  The burger card is good value too as you get a free burger after buying six.

The chicken burgers are good too with a fresh piece of chicken breast. Choose from regular, BBQ, or Cajun. All good.

I've never left that place feeling hungry.

We often stop here with our son if we're running too late to cook a good dinner. They have a frequent eaters stamp card that gets you every 7th burger free, which makes up a bit for their higher prices. I always get the Backyard BBQ Burger with cheese, BBQ sauce, and an onion ring in the burger and have them add a double dose of the free jalapenos. Juicy, sweet, and spicy! The kid's meals come with a pop and a toy that you can pick out of a little mock treasure chest... he usually picks dinosaur stickers and the inside of our car sometimes gets covered in them. Whenever I've been there the man behind the counter appears to be the owner. He's very friendly and tends to the line very quickly. The food is consistently good and my kid loves the fries (more so than most other burger places). Also, he stamps the stamp card for both the regular burgers AND the kid's meal, so the free regular burger you cash it in for comes around really quickly.

The only thing I see that is fat about this burger joint are the inflated prices.  For the money I spent on a very dinky burger, I might as well have just gone to the grocery store and made dinner for myself.  Yes, they do a decent job in the traditional Los Angeles burger stand and the quality was reasonable, but I can't picture ever spending this much for a small burger ever again.
