10 PM on a Saturday night and we needed some greasy eats. I was in the mood for pasta but Michael J wouldn't negotiate, so we found the nearest burger place still open that wasn't super gross fast food.

Fatburger is fast food, but it's fresher and grilled to perfection. So the sign says, at least.

I do like the decor, kind of old diner style. The food was alright. Definitely a better choice than the nearest McDonald's, but it didn't blow me away. My chicken sandwich was fully cooked and the lettuce wasn't that gross chopped up fake kind you find at Subway, but the flavour was just lacking overall.

I appreciated the friendly staff, especially since it was kind of late on a Friday night - I'm sure they wanted to close soon.

    Extra points for being licensed!

Having visited a couple of the other much loved made-to-order burger joints recently enough for a real comparison, I continue to be impressed.  The meat is generous, the bun good and there are enough toppings options to keep most people happy. The burger is certainly worth the money.  It may not be worth driving down to South Edmonton Common (the most poorly designed power centre in Canada) .

Fries are thick cut and are somehow nothing special.  Service can get a little slow on a busy day. It can be hard to find a place to sit.

But it comes down to the burgers and they are a solid A.

After come here a lot, and seeing what the hype was about. It's just hamburgers. The couple of things i do like about Fatburger is that their burgers are cooked fresh, not greased like Mcdonalds. The burgers are big and they top it off with a generous amount of condiments. I was pretty hungry when i came to eat here, so i ordered the kingburger and got their chili cheese fries. The burger was fresh and juicy just the way they should be at restaurants, and the burger alone made me full. Now the chili cheese fries looked good, but they were salty, like it made me soo thirsty that i had to refill my drink 3 times just to finish them.
Fatbuger isnt a place i would go out of way to come to, but once in a while the burgers are worth it. It's pretty pricey here and it gets extremely crowded during lunch and dinner hours which makes it hard to get a seat.

This place is highly overrated. I don't find these burgers to be all that fantastic at least not for the amount of people that were waiting in line and the overflowing tables. It was so busy that we had to hover over tables to get one.

And that phenomenon isn't new. I've done Fatburger before and it was the same way. I didn't get it then and I don't get it now. It's not a fantastic burger for the price.

King burger is amazing. Onions rings are bland unless you put the flavor shake on them.

I really don't where all the hype is coming from for FAT BURGER we came in here tonight to find out?? And really where is the FAT BURGER!!!!
I find this place exceptionally expensive for a burger and onion rings or fries whatever you prefer. I like the theme , the 50's diner type. But -But-
Where's The BEEEEEFFFFFFF.   You Know, from now on I'll stick to what I like and I'm not going to listen to all the hype. I'm Stick en to HARVEY's they really do know how to  make a hamburger a BEAUTIFUL THING :)

Where's the beef?  Right in this review!

An ok burger joint as far I'm concerned.  Ok but not great.  There are better in Edmonton (Red Robin, Rodeo) as noted by other reviewers.

The Edmonton area is rapidly becoming saturated with "specialty burger joints": Fat Burger, Five Guys Burger and Fries, and even Delux Burger Bar is really just an overpriced version of the same genre.

What's next, In n' Out burger?

It even smells fat in the air..I do not recommend this place boycott get it out of here, Edmonton does not need any more glutton factories. DO NOT GO

When I first noticed this place, I thought, 'Wow, Fatburger. Now that sounds really good.' Then I saw the sign they had set up outside. It said, 'Voted for best burger in Vancouver.' Then I thought that this place must be awesome. So I walked in, and I was kind of put off by the atmosphere--a very 1950s burger joint kind of vibe. This would be cool, except it was very modernized and gimmicky, so I wasn't feeling it.  Well, I wasn't going to judge the place on its atmosphere, I mean, it was voted for best burger, after all.

I am not big on beef, so I ordered a chicken burger, and my friend had the beef. I thought it was cool that they also offered a turkey burger--that is something you don't see very often. For two combos with fries and drinks, it came out to almost $20. After you pay and get your drinks, you sit and wait for them to bring your food out to you. It did take a while to come, but that's because they make the burgers fresh. I'd say this place is kind of in between a fast-food restaurant and a regular sit-down restaurant.

When the food finally arrived, I was presented with large chicken burger, openly wrapped in paper that looked a lot like the burgers at Red Robin's. After a few bites, I was already wondering what the big deal was about Fatburger. For some reason, the bun seemed kind of old to me--it was not good. And the rest of the burger itself was not very flavourful. I had a bite of my friend's beef burger, and I had the same reaction. (To be honest, Red Robin's burgers are better, and they don't cost much more.) The fries, however, were good. They had some tasty seasoning salt you could sprinkle on--again, just like Red Robin's. The ketchup came in those paper cups, only bigger, so it was easier to get more ketchup on your fries. (Finally, the ketchup dilemma solved!)

Overall, the food was underwhelming. It wasn't bad, but it was only okay. Seriously, what is the big deal about this place? Why is it so popular in the States? How did it get voted for best burger? Someone please enlighten me! I might go back to try those onion rings, but I think I'll pass on their burgers from now on.

Fatburger...yes Fat and Burger in the same name.  Need I say more.  Seriously not to bad of a place, I would say a bit more pricier than your golden arches.  Its pretty good having the whole HAPPY DAYS feel to the place.  Venue wise its not that big and it can get quite crowded.

Ok...for you adventurous people out there this may sound weird, but have you ever had a burger with a sunnyside up egg inside.  Oh man...it is so good.  Fat burger was not the first place that I had tasted this concoction.  It was another restaurant, but Fat Burger gives you different add-ons to your burger.  You have your usual lettuce, tomato, pickle, etc.  But if you get a chance have an egg added to the burger...SO GOOD!

Fat Burger...food was average.  There was a lot of hype when I heard they were bringing this American food joint in Edmonton.  It was ok.

I'm really of two minds about this place.  On the one hand, I like the idea that you can have a fried egg as an option on your burger and the hand-dipped shakes are to die for.  On the other hand, the beef itself isn't that good.  The patties are generous and a single burger is plenty of food, but the beef really isn't that good.  It's not that it's inferior meat, it's that it's lean/fat ratio is too lean.

A really good burger is first the lean/fat ratio and then how it's cooked (flame broiled being the best).  Fatburger's burgers are, ironically, too lean.  Basically, the more fat, the more flavour.  Too much fat though and it's too greasy to eat.  Fatburger's particular mix is simply too lean for my taste; I feel that I get a lot to chew but it doesn't taste juicy or beefy enough for me to think of it as really good, and since these burgers are on the pricey side, it's not worth the money.

The thing too is that there are way better burgers for less in town: Red Robin, Milestones, Rodeo Burger.  I really wanted to like this place (Did I mention you can get them to put a fried egg on it?), but a burger is about beef and beef should be about flavour.  There just isn't enough of it for the $10/$12 they want for it.

Fatburger is located in South Edmonton Common, so quite a hike from where I normally hang out, but I have heard so much about the place I had to give it a try. So, during a south side shopping expedition we headed here for lunch. The place has a 50s diner feel to it. You order your food at the counter then wait for it to be brought to your seat.  The line was moving more slowly than it should have, as only one till was open and there was some sort of problem. The lineup grew threefold before we finally got to order, and there were only two people ahead of us!

Fatburger has burgers of different weights made from fresh Alberta beef, as well as chicken and turkey burgers. The combos start at around $10 and include the burger, fries, and a drink. Other menu items include milkshakes, onion rings, and chili fries.  When you order certain items, the entire staff behind the counter calls it out in a sing-song fashion, which is cool at first but can start to grate if you eat your meal there.

Our meals were brought to us within ten minutes. The burgers were extremely fresh and juicy, and easily the best either of us have had in a while. You can add cheese and/or bacon to your burger, and all come with a variety of condiments (I held the onions, though). The taste reminded me of the late and dearly missed Johnny Rockets at West Edmonton Mall. The fries were crispy and delicious, and the pop is bottomless.

I would likely have given another star if we did not have to stand on line for so long, but if I happen to be in the area I would definitely head here again.

Like the diner vibe but felt it was a little over priced for a burger joint. That being said it's nice getting a fast food burger and having it come out with lots of toppings and a fluffy bun. I had the veggie burger with fries last time, it was great but the taste of the veggie burger was overpowered by the pickles. I also don't like that they don't have ketchup on the table.
Overall it was okay, likely not the best veggie burger in town. I also noticed a sign for beer and margaritas...I will probably come back again as it's a step up from the regular fast food joint.

I like it and I don't like it.

Inside it looks like an old school diner, something out of the movie Grease. You order your food and then everyone working in the kitchen screams out your order in unison, you get a number, find a seat, and they bring your food to your table. I was kind of waiting for them to break into a song and dance. The idea behind fatbuger is original and  refreshing to see.

What I don't like about this place is that their food is pretty much stuff I feel like I could make myself on the BBQ at home. So I never have a desire to go here just for the food.

If you like to check out original things, give it a go.

This place is a little over the top-- but damn do they make good burgers.

Upon walking in, this place sort of looks like a 50s diner, it reminded me of one of my faves - Route 99- mixed with red robin or something.

But then you hear the yelling. This place works like a assembly line of military personelle, all shouting out the orders back and forth in a loud monotone voice.

Once the yelling is complete and the food hits my table, I was pretty impressed. An awesome burger joint close to my house? What a hit! They also sell beer here, which surprised me because it didn't quite seem to "fit."

One tip is that this place can get pretty busy from the shopping crowds in South Edmonton Common, especially on the weekends. Try off peak hours, like later or earlier in the afternoon.

I've tried Fat Burger once and didn't  notice anything special about them. The burger looked like something I could make at home.. The meat was tasteless to me. I am not sure if that is just how they are made or the cook forgot to put in some spices. This place just seems really hit or miss to me. Some people love it to death.. While others won't come waste their money here again. I'm in the middle though. Id come here again with friends who want to try it. I will not tell you "not" to try it. I will actually recommend you go and try it actually. Only because all the people I talk to love it. Buddy of mine loves the Mushroom Swiss Melt there! So I gotta recommend that! Try it :)

Fatburger definitely has the best burgers I've tasted since Red Robin (yes, I like Red Robin. People don't seem to like it here in Edmonton for some reason).

I think the combo meals are priced well for the quality of food that you're getting. As Paula K. mentioned, they start from about $10 upwards. I'm cool with paying that.

The burgers here are truly delicious. I really can't think of many places in Edmonton that has better burgers. The only problem is that the place gets extremely packed on weekends since there are so many shoppers over at South Edmonton Common.

All in all, I thought Fatburger was all right. Being a vegetarian, I may not have a full view of their menu, but they did have a nice veggieburger. Not stellar, but all right. The rest of the menu was good, and the milkshake was really, really good. The downside is that it was pretty expensive for fast food. It seemed really fun inside, with the youthful staff joking around but still professional enough to know they take the food seriously. I'd go back if I was in that part of town, but wouldn't drive far to go.
