I'm a big fan of their noodle cartons! The chow-mein is really tasty and I always find the noodles perfectly cooked.
I always take my food to go so I can't say anything about dine in service. However, last time I ordered take out they wouldn't answer their phone. We ended up heading over in person to put our order in and saw that they were absolutely swamped. It took us 20 minutes to have our take out order taken. It's ridiculous watching one server handle hosting duties, that many full tables, back end prep/drinks.. etc. I told the girl that we almost walked out and had seen another group already do so!
So.. order ahead! Avoid the crowd. Try help this girl out by complaining to a manager. She is terribly overworked and her tips are probably affected by it. -

This place is one I go to for a cheap and awesome lunch. They have this list of items you can pick 3 off of and out comes an amazing and filling lunch. I almost always have the same thing when I go here: beef and broccoli, chicken chow mein and sweet and sour pork. I love the tea they have there also.
The atmosphere is a little different inside, the walls are painted a dark colour with funky artwork and the ceiling has holes cut out of it to look like stars im assuming. I dont know if it really goes with the Asian theme maybe it does and I am missing the mark but if I had any complaints that would be it. It just doesent seem to fit and could use a bit of a facelift. -

Went for dinner the other weekend, while in Victoria and it was great. It's a little crowded in their but luckily we got a nice table. The girl providing all of the service was running around, a bit like a crazy person- no seriously- like running! it was a bit distracting. Service was scattered due to lack of service- everything on a must need basis...
won't be back, not in victoria often but am very glad we went when we were there. -

Not good... food was barely ok. There has to be better places nearby.

Terrible experience in the heart of Victoria's Chinatown. Expectations where much higher than what was delivered. The signs were there and we ignored them: no Chinese staff serving or in the kitchen, the ice tea was cloudy super-sweet powder mix and the $6.75 lunch special was quite frankly the worst Chinese lunch I've ever had! What a disappointment!

Fan Tan Cafe has been around for many many years and you can't go against the tried and true Victoria staple!
Team E&D shared the large Wor Won Ton soup and some fresh made pork and veggi spring rolls. The rolls were good but the soup was excellent! The bowl was bigger than my head and filled with over 20 dumplings, bbq pork, chicken, prawns, and 3 pounds of yummy veggis. Oh and the broth was amazing as well. We had a hard time finishing the soup and I had to tap out with 1/4 of it remaining. Thanks be to my teammate who carried on to leave no broccoli or dumpling behind.
Two can dine for under $25 and they will serve you even if you walk in at 8:45pm (silly sleepy victoria!)
I would stick to the soups and the noodle boxes for lunch and you won't be disappointed! -

I'm not a fan of Chinese food, but for some reason, I really like the food here. They do nicely flavoured and not-too-greasy lunch combos. The food is the familiar Westernized Chinese style - fine by me - and served in generous portions.
Usually I'll hit this restaurant up while shopping in marvelous Fan Tan Alley, so it's never been very busy in the midafternoons when I've visited. It is on the small side, so it would be crowded when busy. For a tourist-heavy area of town, they're pretty cheap too. What's not to love? -

"Unique" takes on classic dishes.
Hot And Sour Soup didn't resemble H&S soup in the slightest, but had some of the characteristics.
There was either too much, or too little sauce on all of the dishes.
The service was VERY poor (they were slammed, but nonetheless, no consolation was made).
There was an inherent lack of focus to their menu.
WAY overboard on the quantities of food on the plate, which sometimes isn't a bad thing, but it was seriously just overkill.
It's the kind of place that is trying to be hip and chic - modern decor, paint, art on the walls - but at the the same time is serving classic Chinese dishes, and failing miserably at them.
Just a horribly conceived from the get go.
Not Recommended. -

Great little Chinese place in Chinatown.
Very convenient location near downtown Victoria.
Awesome service and inexpensive dishes.
Their to-go noodle boxes are a definite hit.
The only downside is that I live over 1,000 miles away.
+ very friendly waitress
+ the #3 noodle box
- probably gets a little crowded during peak hours since it's small -

Not fancy, but good, and the waitresses worked their butts off; our wait was short despite the place being full when we got there.

I have to say, it was a big mistake to waste my time in this cafe at the beautiful Victoria island. Overall, this place is no better than Panda Express. Food is extremely oily, and sugary. The beef we ordered seemed to be cooked many hours ago and reheated with more oil. The noodle dish we ordered was Okay but the veggie in the noodle is extremely tough. But there is almost no staff in the restaurant when we were there. I am really disappointed at this place. It is worse than a fast food restaurant.
