Pizza and Wiseguy sandwich were both great! Yes, it's thin crust pizza and no, it's not a crispy crust. It's not supposed to be. It's soft and delicious. I was also thrilled that they have 3 lactose-free sorbettos to choose from for dessert! Although we didn't have any, they look to have a pretty good wine selection as well.

Like any other chain, Famoso is very much a restaurant concept, ready to take over the world, or at least Canada. The atmosphere in the restaurant lends an air of sophistication that is much needed in big box land. I enjoy the decor and feel at this location more than the Jasper Ave one.
While Famoso makes sure to use "00" flour and accord to standards prescribed by some sort of pizza authority in Naples, it's very much the Edmonton equivalent of California Pizza Kitchen - right down to the Barbecue Chicken and Spicy Thai Pizzas. I also like how Famoso, while using authenticity as part of its branding, isn't above including Pineapple as a topping option.
And while the pizzas at CPK are considered sacrilege by ex-New Yorkers who happen to live in Los Angeles, I enjoy them. Comparing Famoso to CPK is a tremendous compliment. However, Famoso's crust is a bit fresher tasting - if a bit on the flimsy side for my tastes.
And considering the quality of the ingredients, the prices at Famoso are relatively reasonable. If you're looking to go out for a more-special-than-normal lunch, the $11.75 pizza and sandwich combo is a great value.
Also, make sure to take advantage of Famoso's Pizza-and-a-Movie deal if you ever go see movies at Cineplex Odeon theatres on weeknights. Essentially, Famoso will sell you a movie pass for $6, which you may use for any movie from Monday to Thursday. The passes apparently expire two years after you purchase them.
I'm looking forward to Famoso's arrival on Whyte Ave. -

I had plans for a tea date with my bestie when we both realized we were starving. What were we thinking, anyway, getting tea at noon on a Sunday? Clearly what we wanted was pizza. So pizza we had!
Famoso wasn't that busy, surprisingly. Well, busy but not crazy. We snagged a high table, started gabbing, remembered that we were hungry, then went up to place our orders. I love the lunch-sized-pizza-and-soup combo, especially since their tomato bisque is one of my favourites in the city. I ordered up a soup-plus-pizza-with-some-fancy-Italian-name-combo and then we got back to the gabbing.
The food came out pretty quickly, soup first, then pizza. It was nice and hot, and of course delicious. My pizza (a white pizza) came with arugula and prosciutto, yum! To be honest, it wasn't my favourite pie of all the ones I've tried, but I was still pretty satisfied. Don't even get me started on the soup. Yuuuuum.
And last but not least, gelato for dessert. Bestie and I grew up eating lemon gelato and playing on the swing set in her backyard every summer, so it was only fitting that we both had lemon. While my hubby might make fun of me for only liking the most "boring" flavour of gelato on the planet, I prefer to consider myself a gelato purist. Either way: delicious.Listed in: Four-Stars, Date Night, Lunch Break, Good For Groups, Family Friendly

I've had the super awesome pizza here so many times that I figured I would try one of their fire bread sandwiches and it was amazing. Honestly it was basically like if you took one of their pizzas and folded it in half since it seems to be the same bread as the pizza crust and all the toppings are pretty much the same. Anyways, definitely try it out. The only downside is that the sandwiches aren't really enough to be a meal on their own so maybe order an appetizer/salad.

Still love this place.
I always order the same thing though.
Sweet BBQ Chicken pizza & the Walnut Gorgonzola salad.
Why mess with a good thing?
Hubby tried the Palermo, he liked it.
I had a bite, still like the BBQ Chicken the best! -

Came to the St. Albert Trail Famoso again today, after a disappointing visit to the Jasper Avenue location last Monday.
As usual - great atmosphere and great service!
Hubby and I popped in for an early lunch - we weren't super hungry so we decided to share the
Kalamata Olives appetizer for $3 - great as always
Ordered a peach Italian soda made with Monin syrup - $2.50 (quite sweet... maybe a little too sweet for me?) I preferred the raspberry one we had on our last visit.
And for main - decided to give one of their soup and sandwich combos a try for $10.
THE WISEGUY
Provolone, Italian ham, sopressata (spicy salami), prosciutto and capicolla ham, spicy veggie spread, olive oil, minced garlic and oregano.
We ordered the Wiseguy (as described above) as I thought my husband would be a fan and I was right! It was too meaty for me - I would prefer to have a vegetable or two in my sandwiches but my husband thought it was a definite winner! I quite enjoyed dipping it on the fire-roasted tomato bisque soup.
We elected to only order one main so that we'd have room for gelato - it seems every time we come we are too full to try dessert!
Ordered 3 scoops of gelato for $5.50:
Blood Orange - AMAZINGLY creamy (recommended by the sever)
Chocolate Espresso Nibs (with little espresso bean flecks)
Vanilla Bean
Excellent decision! So glad we saved room for gelato and 3 scoops is a lot - we left stuffed! You can order one scoop of gelato for $3.50 and can order 2 scoops for $4.50 or 3 scoops for $5.50! Why not order 3... have it all!
Another excellent meal at Famoso's on St. Albert Trail... though, I would like to a few more veggies in my sandwiches!

I can honestly say this was the best dining experience I've had in years. I REALLY love this place, the pizza was absolutely brilliant, the house wine was deadly, and I'm pretty sure my girlfriend would dump me if the dessert was a person.
The atmosphere was casual, yet classy. Our server was fantastic, and way beyond funny, as he told us how much he loved the dessert my girl is dumping me for.
All in all I would give this place 10 stars if I could. -

I love this place! I went out there for dinner with my family, after it was recommended to my sister, and we weren't disappointed. They have a lot of unique and tasty foods there :) I love the thin crust on the pizza, and especially the fact that it's NOT greasy at all- I ate like 6 slices, plus dessert, and left with a happy tummy and no food coma :P The desserts are awesome too!

I was so excited when I saw that a new Famoso was going in at Christy's Corner in north Edmonton. This place, which serves authentic Neapolitan pizza, has been a real hit in the downtown location, but I must say this new location has an even better ambiance, although there's nothing wrong with the Jasper one, it's just got more of a casual lunch-time vibe.
This space has high ceilings, a tall wine rack display in the front, rustic, elegant dining-room lighting and a lively open kitchen design concept, so you can watch your thin-crusted pizza being flipped and spun then fed into a massive oven and fire-roasted to perfection.
Every time I have dropped in to this location people have been squeezed to the door. Since it's close to the movie theatre and they offer a pizza-and-movie deal for $16 from Mondays to Thursdays, people flock here before the show. I almost always get the Margherita pizza, which might seem plain to lovers of stacked pizzas, but "when in Italy"...eat thin-crusted pizza with the freshest of tomato sauce and mozzarella cheese - with minimal toppings - just as the Italians do.
However, I add roasted mushrooms because I just think mushrooms belong on everything!
I have been eyeing the prosciutto-wrapped mozzarella balls on the menu for quite some time, but have yet to order them. As I write this, I have broken tradition, and am feasting on Famoso's prosciutto and arugula sandwich. It is fantastic. The combination of fresh basil leaves, giant slices of fresh mozza, vine-ripened tomatoes and thin slices of savoury prosciutto is absolutely de-lish! My only complaint is I'd like a little more prosciutto to balance out the other flavors.
The sandwich portion is huge (it could easily feed two for $12.50!) and I think I will eat half and order the tiramisu for dessert, because this tiramisu isn't just made from an authentic Italian recipe, it is imported from Milan, Italy.
(30 minutes later) I am savouring the tiramisu with whipped cream and chocolate drizzle and an Americano. Gusta Delizioso! I will be back soon. -

We've been to the one on the south side, so this was a natural choice for closer to home. The atmosphere was a little loud which made it a little tricky to have a conversation. The service was good, not completely in your face or anything, but they were always there when we needed with little wait time.
For a Saturday night we got in relatively quickly, especially opting for sitting at the pizza bar. What a treat that was! Watching the staff put together each pizza was pretty cool.
The food was great. Overall a wonderful experience.
