These handy little ferries are about the most fun way to get around in Vancouver!
My trips to Granville Island always start with and enjoyable ride on these small, efficient little boats. The price is reasonable, the staff is friendly and fun and they even have special charter Christmas Carol cruises around the harbour at False creek.
Although less brightly painted than the Aquabus, the False Creek Ferry stops in more places.
Handy to get to GI or over to the MOV for an event - I'm excited every time I have to go somewhere and I have the opportunity to take the False Creek Ferry instead of other types of transit.
    Also......I get to sing.....
    I'm on a boat!

My idea of a perfect day -
Wake up to a clear cloudless sky, hop on the False Creek ferry, zip over to Granville Island for fresh produce, lunch and beer, then sail over to the aquatic centre to sunbathe at Sunset Beach. Only thing more perfect is if  I was sharing this with someone special.

That's why I love living so close to the water. FCF operates 3 lines, 1 from Science World to Granville Island (stopping at Plaza of Nations, Yaletown, Monk McQueens, and David Lam Park along the way), 1 between G-Island & the Aquatic Centre & 1 between the Aquatic Centre & Vanier Park. See http://www.granvilleis... for more info- note that they've raised their prices by $0.50 from what is stated on the map.

To be honest I don't really find much difference between these ferries and the rainbow-colored ones (Aquabus).  Not sure if FCF really is cheaper as I've never tried to figure out the confusing pricing and just pay whatever the operator tells me. So I just take whichever ferry comes first.

If only it didn't cost $6.50 One Way to go to English Bay. I'd rather walk 35 mins. to get there and use the money to reward myself with a beer. But I would gladly pay if I was with the right company as I think it's quite a romantic ride :)

PS. If you're reading this and visiting from out-of-town I would definitely recommend taking a little tour on this.  The view of the downtown skyline, Olympic Village and the seawall from False Creek is so incredibly beautiful.

Fun and cheap. Why walk all the way around. By far the best way to go.

    Romance.

All thanks to driver Jack's harmonica.

    Imagine.

It's a clear, crisp, dark evening. You're one half of a pair of lovers. The water is calm, with a hint of salt in the air. You're the only boat gliding through the water. To your left, the glass encased skyline shines. To the right, sailboats bob peacefully at their docks.

    The harmonica plays.

Transported to some magical European city - Venice? Prague? Amsterdam?

When you're ashore, less than 5 minutes later, at Granville Island, you pause... did that really just happen? Oh yes, yes it did: Wednesdays to Saturdays, that's Jack's regular schedule, making the price of the ticket so well worth it!

    Do you know Jack?

If you do, you have been lucky enough to experience a harmonica serenaded voyage along False Creek. If not... well... it's a boat ride!

Also called False Creek Ferries, these are the non-rainbow coloured boats you see running around False Creek from Science World to Granville Island and the West End. They're very handy if you don't happen to have a bike for getting around this area by land, and also because bus service is pretty sparse around the Creek, sad to say.

I took a ride near sunset, and it was short and sweet. I was reminded again of what a lovely waterfront we have here in Vancouver and of the marine nature of our city. In short, the view from the ferry can refresh a landlubber's whole outlook.

It's probably a little on the tourist-y side, but not just for tourists.

Seems like Aquabus is currently more popular with Yelpers, at nine reviews versus two.

What's interesting is that with Granville Island Ferries fares from Granville Island are $0.50+ cheaper than Aquabus. Granville Island Ferries is also the only service that runs to the Maritime Museum and Space Center.

So if you're feeling ambitious, you can start your day with breakfast at Granville Island, zip to Maritime/Vancouver/Space Museum, then head over to Science World -- all on the ferry.

Aquabus has the edge on colorful boats, but that's about it.

This is a fun little water taxi line that has several routes and options along False Creek. I have previously taken the Blue Line (and back) between the Aquatic Centre/Sunset Beach (West End) to Granville Island. I was in the early stages of a long walk that day, and this was definitely the most efficient, economical, and scenic way to get from A to B.

Would get a 5-star rating but the fares are very high even if you buy a return. Best bet is a book of tickets but even at that it's not like the bus/train system where you get an hour and a half window usage time to use that ticket once you alight on a bus/train.

The service itself is great, Ferries are frequent. Pilots are professional and friendly. They always have change onboard. The journeys are quick and easy.

False Creek Ferries is a cute and terrific way to go back and forth between Granville Island and Vancouver. It essentially operates as a tug boat, and you get a terrific view of Vancouver. Depending on where you're going, one-way fares can range from $3.25 - $6.50 Canadian dollars.

There is no finer form of public transport than a boat. When I lived in a different city I had the pleasure of being able to get a ferry to work everyday and I loved it. Stepping onto the ferry and being taken across the water to your destination is a little adventure everytime. The staff are always jovial and when on my journey I  often wish we could swing hard to the stern and out into the bay and beyond, but alas we are at the dock and they want my money.

What a great way to get to Granville Island. It was only $3 one way, or $5 if you buy both ways. There were no time table but whenever we were at the dock waiting for a ferry, they were there within 3 minutes. We loved this little ride!!
