Who woulda thunk a 2.5 star inn on the outskirts of nowhere Des Moines Iowa would be the coolest ever? It is all brand new and near the airport. As my fiancee and I are moving across country and taking it slow, we have been to a few hotels already. Being kind of snooty, we have stuck to 3 star and 4 stars with excellent ratings on 2 different websites. We have been disappointed, until we could NOT book a 3 star in all of the Des Moines area and had to lower our standards for the Fairfield. I am SO glad we did.
Wow, I'm now seeing a 1 star report and I can't figure it out. Great bathroom tiling, Extremely comfortable room, affordable, has a great breakfast bar, excellent lounge, a small store to buy necessary items, very friendly people, wonderful bar connected to a GREAT steakhouse right next door.
The gym is adequate for a travel INN. It is not a fancy hotel, so you can not compare it to such. Yes... minimal weights, but 2 great treadmills and 2 great ellypticals with their own tv's and a pool and jacuzzi right out the dooor. Do you have smelly laundry... there is a laundry room. I am right now completing this review on the hotel's FREE wireless.
It is very out of the way, but it is placed right near to the International Airport (holy crap, Des Moines has an international airport!?!?), and next to a business park. I assume that is the target market, business travelers flying in and working there. Can't fault the company for that. And the employees are trying. Everybody gets a complimentary drink at the steakhouse when you check in. So we got 20 bucks free with our room purchase!
All in all, this is a very good inn. Both my fiancee and I said something equivalent to "holy moly, this feels like a REAL business hotel in a REAL city!" but I don't think it is the equivalent. I think they have done one step better in order to make us feel comfortable. I can not do anything but give the Fairfield 5 stars. -

An absolute dream of a hotel! All new, beautifully furnished, extremely helpful staff, a solid breakfast, and a nice gym! We had booked on priceline and weren't sure what to expect as we drove further and further from central Des Moines. At the desk, Michael was very friendly and offered us drink tickets to the restaurant next door. My fiancee and I worked out in the gym and had a good breakfast of coffee, yogurt, and breakfast sandwiches afterwards. I needed to use the business center computers and send a fax and the front desk staff helped me happily. I highly recommend staying here!

This place looks to be new. I had a double queen bed which was nice, the staff was courteous and helpful. I didn't know how long I would stay for home hunting. I just stayed 2 nights and reservation was easily modified. Breakfast was both hot and cold. Swimming pool was big and fitness room had everything from weight lifting, treadmill, elliptical, and exercise ball. All cardio equipment had personal TV with headphones. Discounted rate was around $100 which was better than I expected. Also, courtesy van for airport pickup and drop off.

WORST marriott I have ever stayed in! I'm an elite marriott member, so trust me I've stayed in dozens all over the country.
Tiny room, no refrigerator, cheap toiletries, cheap furniture, not enough parking spaces in the parking lot. Overpriced for what you get.
On night 1 of a recent stay, I got back from dinner and drove around the parking lot for 10 minutes trying to find a space. The hotel is so far out in the boonies, that there is no other parking besides what few spaces are in the lot. When I couldn't find a single space, I had to park in a no-parking area, and hope for the best. I called the front desk to let them know I parked in no-man's-land, and this guy "Dave" was a complete a-hole on the phone.
Then on night 2, I was woken up at 3am by a snowplow slamming around in the parking lot for nearly an hour, pushing around less than 2 INCHES of snow, back and forth. Completely unnecessary to be doing this at 3am. The windows are so thin that I could hear the snowplow so loud it was like I had the window open. Up for almost two hours in the middle of the night because of this, with an extremely long day upcoming the next day.
Called the desk about the snow plow, but again had to deal with this miserable "Dave" character. He was apparently quite put-off that I would call him about such a thing. Unbelievably rude and indifferent, and didn't do a damn thing about it. First thing the next morning, I checked out a day early and went to stay at another hotel down the street.
Don't waste your time at this marriott. It seems to be a franchisee, as "Dave" mentioned on Night 1 "we also own the Radisson next door." Not sure if the franchise owner just doesn't care about Marriott standards or what, but this place is no where near on the level of other Marriott's you'd find in bigger cities.
Very disappointing!
I recommend the Towne Place Suites on the north side of town, or the Marriott in downtown Des Moines. Both of those hotels are much more in-line with what a Marriott should be. Don't waste your time with this Fairfield. -

This Fairfield Inn is new-ish and nice. Love the little 24 hour snack shack stocked with cold Mountain Dew. ...near the airport and connected to a Johnny's Italian Steakhouse that delivers room service (limited hours). ...The place could use a bigger parking lot.

I was here on business, but just about everything concerning room accommodations were great. The room, restroom, and hotel were very clean. My room had a bedroom area as well as a living room area. The continental breakfast has some hot items which was good. The staff seemed friendly enough.

Really great. The beds were sooo comfy, the decor was hip (for a hotel chain), and the service was top-notch and perennially cheerful. We slept late and missed breakfast, but they brought out what we wanted anyway. We had a room with one king-size bed for $160.
