Fabricana is the boutique department store of fabric shops. It has the quality that Dress Sew is missing, the variety that Fabricland just can't offer, the affordability that is lacking in the small boutiques, and the organization Rokko's can only dream about.

The fabrics here tend to suit the pending season and the mood. In the winter, expect to find the bright budding palettes of spring, and the rusty hues of autumn in the summer. The patterns here are also finely organized.

Fabricana is not a haven for bargains (or that I found any way), but it does offer a solid selection especially if you're seeking out fabrics for a very particular project--when not just anything will do.

The prices may be more traditional than I'd like (I'm always on the hunt for a crazy bargain) but the service is like nothing I've ever had before. I'm just getting into sewing, and one of their amazing sales ladies spent FOREVER with me advising what to use for various projects, different tips and tricks, different fabrics etc etc. I couldn't believe the amount of time she was willing to spend with me, her patience, and her genuine interest in me and my questions (and I'm a beginner, so I'm sure they're tedious questions!). Amazing amazing service. Thank you so much for a great shopping experience!

Visited again today to shop through the designer fabrics.  I was in luck as the Joel Dewberry bolts were 30% off, so I stocked up on some modern prints.

The staff was helpful and willing to cut fabric in small increments (1/8 meter) so that I didn't need to overbuy.  And, while staring blankly at a wall of solid colors hoping to find a match for my freshly cut prints, the staffer swung by to offer advice on color matching.

After visiting a few local fabric stores recently, Fabricana offers the widest quilting fabric selection so far, especially designer fabrics.

"I let the fabrics guide me, and my imagination goes to work" Givenchy.
The selection here is decent but  notably inadequate fabric selection made from silk. They have a few silk charmeuse, but no silk organza, gazaar, or washed silk (fabrics that are usually priced around $12- $20).
There are some eco-friendly fabrics and other sportswear fabric. Personal favorite is the silk/ rayon lining and silk/ cotton voile. Prices are higher and selection restrictive compared to the ones in the US.
The bead and trim selection here are slightly limited and rather outdated too. It's one of the better fabric store to catering to Vancouver market.

I like going to Fabricana for so many reasons when I get inspired to sew.  It is spacious and all the fabrics are layed out nicely.  There is a second floor for interior design fabrics.  Fabricana has fabrics that are quality made, yet affordable.  They also have  selection of dance wear, evening wear, and bridal fabrics.  I like Fabricana because they also have fabrics that go with the season's colors.  The only down side is that when they are busy, it is extremely hard to find a staff to cut your fabric andd that bolt is not that easy to carry around in a big place.

As far as quality goes, there is a slight improvement over dressew but not by much. What fabricana does have is a huge selection and well-developed specialty sections. If you're looking for fabric for dance wear, quilting, interior decorating, or bridal, check out fabricana's extremely well-organized and plentiful selection. There's also a great general section, with last season's fabrics on discount. The notions pale in comparison to dressew in selection and price, but you can usually find some cool buttons on the racks.
