If you've been searching for Calgary's finest hot dog, then search no more.
Extreme Hotdog at 3703 17th Avenue SE serves up, in my opinion, Calgary's Top Dog - bar none. What makes them the best, you ask? Simply put - it's the wiener. Extreme Hotdog uses the acclaimed Nathan's Coney Island weiners straight from New York. If you've never had a Nathan's dog, then you just haven't experienced hot dog heaven. They're the right size, they have a bit of a snap on the outside, and they're juicy and nicely spiced...frankly, they are just perfect. Extreme Hotdog provides all the toppings for you to add to your dog, including the basics as well as sauerkraut and onions.
The inside is spotlessly clean and the service is exceptionally friendly and efficient. It's very affordable (combo meal: hot dog, fries, and drink = $5.99) and they have tasty mango slushies to boot. It's a new business, only open for 5 months, but after experiencing the goodness firsthand, I've no doubt that they'll be a fixture in the city for years to come.
In closing, get there, get there now. You'll thank me for it, I promise!
