What can one say - wicked location. Never been there before, but drive by regularly. My small coffee was over $2....that is in the range of starbucks...I think? I never go there because it's too expensive and over rated.
Friend ordered a sandwich - looked good, I got really hungry watching her eat - she said it was really good...made me even more hungry.
But...I'm not a fan of $2 small coffees. I'm also stubborn so I'll be back on a frigid day to sit by the fire after a walk along the river. -

Only out of dire need and convenience will I make a point of giving Extreme Bean my business again. I had my second visit today and what a gong show. There was minimal seating available even for a single person. I had to park myself temporarily at the dirty dishes/soup counter until a small table opened up, which I practically ran for. Other people were negotiating with each other to try and find enough seats for their party. It was non-stop busy with a line-up that seemed to last way too long. Extreme Bean needs more front-line staff. I ordered a Green Tea latte which they got right, as it was flavorful and actually hot. However, I think the $0.25 debit charge is lame and I didn't appreciate the non-verbal attitude I received when I requested my debit receipt, as it wasn't offered it to me. When I entered the restroom, it seemed to have a faint sewer smell.
Personally, I wouldn't expect to see Asian dishes in such a place, but whatever works for them. At the counter, they have the largest puffed wheat and rice krispie cake servings I've ever seen, as well as the heaviest butter pecan tarts I've ever muscled (seriously, I had to pick one up because they are so huge). It's such a busy place that I have to assume the food is good, so I will give Extreme Bean credit for that, even though I likely won't ever be back to try it. -

Oh Extreme Bean, you've got such a cute name and such potential but there are just some things missing from your experience that I can't quite get over.
What you've got right:
Location. Extreme Bean is an easy stop off on Memorial Drive. I use it every now and again as a meeting spot for my NW friends.
Seating. In one half of the shop, you can cozy up in a comfy chair next to the fire place, while the other half of the shop has plenty of tables that are more suited to eating (or working).
Wifi. The wifi here is free, although secured. Code: extremebean11.
What you need to work on:
The prices. I ordered a bowl of Lobster Bisque soup with my coffee. It was $6.50 for the bowl. Nothing else came with it, and it certainly wasn't worth the price. Actually, it did come with a fortune cookie. I saved the fortune, maybe I'll win something by playing the lottery numbers on the back. That would be extreme :p.
My conclusion, Extreme Bean works for a spot to read your book, get some work done or meet some friends for coffee. If you're looking for some grub, try elsewhere.Listed in: Anybody but Starbucks, Free Wifi!

The only reason I like Extreme Bean is because it's in the perfect location for a coffee while enjoying a nice walk along the river. But, there aren't too many other reasons that make me go back.
I've noticed that the staff don't seem to be too involved with their customers. There's been a couple of times when I go in and am not served for a couple of minutes. This isn't because they're busy or tied up with something else, I honestly believe they just don't really care.
The beverages at this place are pretty standard. The coffee is still fresh, and the blended drinks are pretty yummy too. I've never tried any of the pastries or food, but that' because they've never looked that tempting.
I only enjoy Extreme Bean after or during a nice walk along the beach. They really lucked out with location because I'm sure they get a lot of thirsty people coming in after a nice walk. -

If you've lived in Calgary for any length of time, chances are you've experienced The Extreme Bean. The reason I say this is because it is located right beside the river, and most people who go for walks along the river have made at least one pit-stop at The Extreme Bean.
Lindsay K. is right when she says that this place really lucked out with their location. The majority of people only visit this place due to convenience and genuine thirst after a long walk/run along the river.
Personally, after my most recent experience here, I plan on just waiting til I get home to replenish my body with fluids.
The Extreme Bean is small and extremely pricey. The drinks aren't exceptional, neither is the service.
Unfortunately, the only thing this place has going for it is its location. -

Did these guys change management recently?
I stopped in for a caffeine refuel after a hike in the mountains, and will definitely not be coming back. The once authentically relaxing vibe has become rather generic, and the Americano quality was unmemorable. I intended to just come in and out, but the gal working didn't notice me at the counter for a minute or two.
I thought she was just finishing something up before serving, but then I realized she wasn't even paying attention to the counter/cash register. YIKES!
While waiting, I eyed some sad looking pastries, both shiny and old; and reminisced about better times at the Bean. Bring this place back to what it used to be! -

I went into Extreme Bean to grab a bite to eat. The place was busy and had a cozy feel to it. The woman at the counter was miserable and rushed me to order. They have a variety of food, from wonton soup, to pasta, to sandwiches. I decided on the chicken quesadilla with yam fries and a london fog. My order came to $17, which I thought was kinda high. I was given a number and was able to snag a table after some people left.
I waited about 25 minutes for my food. My london fog was good, not the best I have had though, definitely over priced. When my food came it was hot, the fries were really crispy and tasty. The quesadilla was not good. There was barely any cheese in it, the chicken quality was gross. There are 2 things I really hate when it comes to food, cartilage in chicken and mushrooms. My quesa had both, I almost gagged when I felt the pieces of cartilage in my mouth. Then I found random mushrooms in it, "why are there random mushrooms in my quesa?" I though to myself. Needless to say, I couldn't finish it. So I filled up on my yam fries.
The staff here were all miserable, the food quality no where near par with other places and it is over priced. They are good about cleaning the tables, that was the only positive thing I noticed. I will not recommend this place for anything other than a quick coffee. -

Wow....this place sucks!
My husband and I were out for a stroll and decided that it looked like a great breakfast place...wrong! It was around 10 am and we expected the place would be packed with other breakie lovers and it was. We were told (rudely) by the waitress that she was clearing a table and that she would be back in a minute. About 10 mins. goes by and another server (or owner) asked us if we had been helped. We explain and he seats us. We order coffee and 2 orders of bacon and eggs. Long story short...coffee never came and our breakfast was the s#%ts. Eggs were runny (ordered over hard) and the toast was cold with a blob of what may have been butter in the middle of the toast and the bacon was PRE-COOKED!! WTH??? Pre-cooked bacon at a breakfast place?!?!? Does bacon take that long to prepare that it's justifiable to pre-cook it? I couldn't eat any of it and mentioned to the server that it was inedible. No offer of anything else...she just rolled her eyes and took it away. When we went to pay BOTH meals were on the bill. My husband mentioned this and was informed that I "should have ordered something else". Huh? We payed for both, left and went home to make some real breakfast. Never again! Now when we have the craving for breakfast we go to Nellies (on 17 Ave.) or Eat Eat in Inglewood...both of which are FANTASTIC!! -

We stopped at the Extreme Bean after a lengthy walk by the river. The latte I sampled wasn't the best I'd ever tasted, but it was good enough. And the Rice Krispie Treat was big enough to feed my starving children. It looked like the menu had some interesting food options and I liked the location; near the Bow River trail.
