Exhibition Park is kept hopping for most of the year. As the premiere hosting facility for large shows like the Home Show, the RV and Boat show and Christmas at the Park, most people have made their way through Exhibition Park at least a time or two.
Exhibition Park also puts on smaller events like dog trials, agility events, soccer clinics and the travelling midway.
My favourite Exhibition Park weekend is Christmas at the Park; for years, it was a destination for my girlfriends and I as an opportunity to leave the kiddos at home and browse to our heart's content. At least one new ornament was purchased each year, many of them customized to fit our family.
Usually, there's a decent food court available at the different shows. Sure, the canteen has your usual fries and hot dogs, but in the back, there's a good chance you'll find an ethnic food court and all sorts of other delectables including candy coated apples and fresh fruit smoothies.
Although the parking lot could stand to be re-paved, Exhibition Park is by and large an excellent hosting facility. Washroom facilities leave something to be desired, but otherwise there's lots of space to spread out and shop to your heart's content. -

Whether it's stuffed to the brim with prize-winning cows, hurdle-jumping dogs, hand-carved santas, or tractors the size of your apartment, there's always something exciting going on at Exhibition Park. It might be a little jaunt from the city, but with entry fees of usually $10 or less, it's always a fun option to pass a couple weekend hours gawking at things you never thought you'd see before.
Now of course you probably shouldn't go to a fair or festival that you're just not into, but there's almost always something for everyone. I'm clearly not at home at a farmers' exhibition but yet I could dance around Clydesdale horses all day without tiring. My visit to the Ideal Home Show today wasn't mind-blowingly exciting, but hey - it sure beat sitting at home watching another Kardashians marathon.
The downsides? Well, the parking situation can be a total disaster and getting out of the area amidst a line of dozens of other cars isn't always fun. Other than that? There's always some fun to be had. -

If there's to be a show down for my favorite events hosted at Exhibition Park, it would be a three way tie between The Natural Fibre Fair, The Food Show, and The Crafters Fair. This isn't a place that I frequent, but is the kind of mega building that I've ventured to maybe once biannually over the last two decades to check out a specifically tailored showcase of goods.
I don't think the building has changed since the days of my childhood when I journeyed there with my family to check out the fall fair, ripe with massive pumpkins and pony rides. The building is huge and perpetually chilly, transformable into an atmosphere for shopping or else seeing large animals flaunt their stuff.
The natural fibre fair that I checked out about two years ago was great. Many independent vendors were selling materials for felting and knitting, and there were alpacas and sheep being walked about the ring by little kiddies. I enjoyed the more quaint nature of this show, with some vendors offerings lessons and with a fraction of the space being used.
Any who - check out a show at Exhibition Park, why don't you? This is a great place to spend the afternoon, milling about with family and friends. In fact, the Saltscapes East Coast Expo is on this weekend showcasing the best of Atlantic Canada. Go and suss it out! -

Exhibition park is the ultimate "house all" complex, and is home to craft markets, home shows, sports events and banquets. I've attended a wide variety of shows and fairs here with my mom over the years, and watched her eyes widen at every tole painted Santa figurine and homemade jam table we'd walk past. I usually follow her around and take notes on what she fauns over and then stock up on gifts for her for later.
This great facility can also be privately booked for special events and conferences. If you are looking for a large venue for a wedding reception, retirement party, or golden birthday than this could be the place for you. It's a blank canvas as far as decorations go. I've never actually thought of it as good looking before, but there is usually t enough going on at Exhibition Park to take your mind off the minimal decor. -

If there's a big local event for the Halifax area, chances are it will be held at Exhibition Park on the Prospect Highway about 15 minutes outside of Halifax.
It's where the annual Maritime Fall Fair, complete with Carney rides and midway outside, and horse and dog shows and animal and food competitions inside. The kid's petting zoo is a favorite hangout, not to mention all the good fair food choices like candy apples, fudge and hot dogs galore.
If that doesn't tickle your fancy there are RV shows, Little Ray's travelling reptile show, home show, farming shows and my personal favorite - Saltscapes where vendors come from all parts of the Maritimes to showcase their best from artisan goods to resorts.
Lots of place to park your cars and no matter which events we've been to, the staff have been great and everything seemed to run like clockwork. -
