Discovered a great little cafe in the Exchange District that serves delicious paninis. The Exchange Cafe is a bit tucked away - it's on the East side of Rorie Street. The space is very similar to most buildings in that area, exposed brick, large wooden beams. It's a light and airy space that has seating for 20-30 people. As you walk in, there's an espresso/wine/martini bar where you place your order and the kitchen is in the back. There are tables as well as a few loungy couches in the back of room. This place reminds me of the Fyxx (less the granola staff) - simple healthy sandwiches made with good ingredients along with the coffee bar.
Paninis are around $5-$7, there's also homemade soup and salads. They also serve some interesting breakfast items like grilled banana and nutella panini. They serve fair trade coffee and organic tea and there's wine and martinis available too.
I had the daily lunch special ($8.95) which was a veggie panini - roasted red peppers and mushrooms with Monterrey jack cheese with the soup of the day, tomato vegetable and a drink. The veggie panini was jammed packed with the aforementioned veggies and tasted lovely with the ooey gooey cheese. I was also surprised that the panini held up texture wise in the compostable/biodegradeable take out box as I made my way back to work. I was worried it would get all soggy but it was perfect! I love a great soup that's made from scratch. The soup had a great balance of flavours to it and was filled with good sized chunks of vegetables.
The grilled Caprese panini is filled with mozzarella, tomatoes and basil pesto. I think it would've been even more delicious if they included some fresh basil in there, otherwise, it was pretty good at $5. It also came with a small side of pickled shredded veggies - not my fav but I ate it anyways.
Service was really friendly. And I gotta say again, that I love that they use compostable/biodegradeable take out boxes and utensils!Listed in: Great Casual Downtown Lunch…, The best in the Exchange

Used this location as our base of operations during the fringe festival this last summer, and went back several times in the fall. Over all good food and coffee and a great place to meetup with others. I would like to go back, but as I walk over I'll wait for it to warm up a bit.
