I've lived on this part of main for 5 years and, while the older reviews on this site might have been more accurate (if a little histrionic) then, they're no longer representative of a decent and well outfitted grocery.

They have a good selection of cheap, good produce. They don't waste as much food as larger groceries (how do you think they always look so tip top?), so the selection if often more ripe than across the street, but if you're buying for the next meal or two, it's perfect (and the prices don't necessitate buying in bulk).

As well, the family that runs it is always good for a smile or story or recipe. It's a nice place for the basics, and while I get meats, cheeses/dairly, and other more specialty things from delis elsewhere, I always stop here first.

The produce and grocery section is cheap, but that's about the only thing going for this store.

The store is disgusting. Just look at the floors or behind the produce: everything is filthy. The containers of greens are regularly past their best before date; same thing with refrigerated items like milk and yogurt. A produce store should smell like fresh fruits and vegetables - not like rotting food.

My partner likes this place because it's cheap and he doesn't see dirt or rotting food, but I refuse to shop here. Vancouver has so many good produce stores, but none near this end of Main St.

IGA across the street is expensive and the selection isn't very good, but it's clean and they take care of their produce section.

    Everfresh? More like Neverfresh.

I've given this store the benefit of the doubt in the past as I really want it to be better than just popping across the street to IGA, but sadly I've got home too many times to find I've bought peppers with brown spots or mouldy mandarins to bother again.

I don't give them one star because they do have a good selection of spices and other bits and pieces you can't otherwise find on this stretch of Main Street - although with Yek O Yek just up the road, they've got stiff competition on that front too.

I'll usually buy my produce here provided I can find some that isn't too past it's prime. On a good day you can walk out of here with great produce at a fraction of what you'd pay across the street at IGA, but on a bad day expect mouldy or even rotten produce. Product aside, I think this may be a family run business, with either the parents or the two late-teenaged kids working behind the till. The kids seem ok, fairly typical disinterested teens, but the parents (this may be wrong, but regardless...) could both use some lessons in customer service. I'm not one of those "the customer is always right" people, but I appreciate good service. Hell, just a smile and a hello is often enough. Most of the time when I come in here, the older woman will be yakking on the phone as she rings me in, not even looking in my direction as she waits for me to place my veggies on the scale, and only acknowledging my presence by holding out a hand and waiting for my money. Either that or she will be puttering around in the back of the store, look up to see if there's somebody waiting to pay, and if there is, take her time finishing whatever she's doing then moseying back up to the front with a look like she's just been interrupted. I haven't had as much experience dealing with the older guy that I think is the owner, but on one memorable excursion he got mad at me for trying to pay with a $20 bill. I'll probably keep shopping here because it's so close to my place, and really is a lot cheaper than IGA, but don't expect the worlds friendliest service.
